Hoping this isn't too serious...plantar fasciitis was what ended Monica Seles's career

Considering that she's still limited by age restriction with scheduling, Barty would be a perfect choice to take her spot.

How can she be so unlucky?

She got the same luck as Wozniack :o Everytime she starts to get back she gets another injury. Hopefully she'll come back in force.

Hearing rumours that Bojana Bobusic & Rogowska have been offered.
Rogowska is playing qualies in hobart i believe so think that Bobusic will be the one. After winning a wildcard to AO i think this would be the perfect chance to get some match practice against some top 50 players.

Ugh, either of those players getting it would be such a waste unless Barty can't play because of injury.

Bojana will also be infront of her home town.

Barty - Injured or planning to play Brisbane
Rodionova - :help:

Vekic playing for Australia :help:

It will be so embarrassing that the host country can't even find a female tennis player to play in a team event :help:

Surely An-Rod is the first choice due to experience and amount of wins over top 50 players. Assuming Jarmila and Stosur are already contracted to play Brisbane.
Barty & Bobusic would be the next too options, then I guess Rogowska.

On the other hand, Restriction or not, why give up a week where she'll get an WC into a WTA event? Not a lot of opportunities the rest of the year really.

Because here she'll get to play at least 3 matches against top opponents, whereas at Brisbane she'll probably crash out first round.

What a great opportunity and experience for Ash :hearts:

Yeah exactly. Ranking points are not that important at this stage and she will probably have other chances later in the year anyway.

She can probably play a little more freely here too I think, so should do her good.

Sad for Casey, but also looking forward to the opportunity to see Ash play some more. It's a pretty high quality women's field in the Hopman Cup this year, so it'll be very tough for her.

The whole idea of a substitute player playing for a country that it's not hers is just so wrong

They will find an Aussie to take Casey's spot. The Hopman Cup is an exhibition and considering the field they get every year, it's an exhibition with a lot of money. I'm sure whatever they offer Rogowska or Barty or whoever else will be one of the biggest checks they receive all year.

Venus is in the other group, I doubt Australia will make it to the final. Barty plays Petkovic, Ivanovic, and Schiavone.
