i truly believe vinci has many advantages when compared to her compatriote.
vinci's serve can be trickier (or is just less attackable), shes better at the net and her sliced backhand is more effective as a shot than errani's.. i do need to give errani the forehand, especially on clay
i feel that errani's inflated ranking may trick us to think she's the most gifted player of the two.. but i guess thats not the case
well.. discuss

The one that's in the top 10.

vinci is the most gifted one i guess

Vinci has a hell of a serve for a 5 ft 4 Italian chick.

Sara is better, but Roberta should be higher with her play.

The one that's in the top 10.

Exactly. Only one of these players has reached a GS final.

When Errani and Vinci played at the US Open it was a straight-forward victory for Sara.

Sara. She has the edge over Roberta in some of the most important parts of the game these days, that is consistency, an incredible will to fight and a high level of endurance.

If Sara can reach the Top 10, then I have absolutely no doubt that Vinci can go that far too. IMO she has more weapons and less holes in her game than Errani. It would be wonderful to see her in the Top 10 :D

I think Roberta has a better overall game than Sara, but Sara is much more consistent, and doesn't have half as many random losses. She's a fighter on court too which helps....

Vinci has more raw talent, Errani is the better player

Peak Vinci.

Dec 15th, 2012, 04:08 PM
Errani is way more consistent and has a better footwork. That seems to be enough to be better than Roberta on anything except grass and indoor hardcourt.

Dec 15th, 2012, 04:22 PM
I like Vinci's game more but Errani's is much more effective obviously.

Dec 15th, 2012, 04:22 PM
Vinci's got the experience, but if I had to take one player to win a match TODAY it'd be Errani. Great fighter.

Both know the game real well. Obviously helping each other along the way.

Errani. Though I prefer watching Vinci play much more - I love how she uses the slice aggressively, no one does that these days.

Dec 15th, 2012, 07:21 PM
Sara. Consistency beats a beautiful backhand here,

Dec 15th, 2012, 09:21 PM
I think Vinci will join top 10 this year.

Dec 15th, 2012, 09:27 PM
I think Vinci beats Errani in two if they would meet today.

I think Vinci beats Errani in two if they would meet today.

I think that's unlikely, given that Sara won their last four matches 6-2 6-4, 6-4 6-1, 6-4 6-1 and 6-2 1-0 ret.

Vinci's game is beautifully fluid. Lovely, elegant strokes, seamless technique on her backhand slice, clean volley technique and a very accurate serve, if lacking any kind of raw pace. Has terrific versatility with the use of drop-shots, lobs etc, due to her wonderfully soft hands on impact.

Vinci's game really does lack a lot of weight, especially against big hitters. Her length isn't always stellar, and although her footwork is somewhat intricate, athletically she is far inferior to Errani, who is much more robust, durable, supple etc. She doesn't really have the defensive instincts of Errani, in the sense of that high-energy, grinding defensive framework.

Errani's game is much more basic, but I tend to think she has much more core strength, able to produce heavy topspin at times, which gives her more of a reprieve against bigger hitters, especially on slower surfaces. She also has great anticipation that comes from her quick, rhythmic footwork. Stamina, greater conditioning also play a part too.

Vinci wins on the sheer beauty of aesthetic, but Errani probably wins overall in terms of gruelling efficiency, despite her fugly strokes and less than inspiring game.

Its close. Errani is over ranked atm.

Sara >> Singles

Roberta >> Doubles

Dumb question. The results make it clear who is better as boring and hideous as Errani is to watch play.

Dec 17th, 2012, 08:00 PM
I thought it's pretty obvious but surprised to see the close poll result.
the other player is top 10 + GS finalist. and Vinci is pretty old too.

Dec 17th, 2012, 08:54 PM
Vinci by a billion miles.

Seriously, itīs better comparing Errani to Brie Whitehead than Vinci. Vinci is one of the talented players nowadays, her game is just beautiful to watch.

Dec 17th, 2012, 08:56 PM
I truly believe that Vinci is a "better" player. She has more weapons. Errani is definitely more consistent tho and it seems it works for her better in the last year.

Dec 17th, 2012, 09:07 PM
Vinci is more talented and gifted, but Errani is the better player right now...

Dec 18th, 2012, 06:46 AM
Errani may not have a better slice than Vinci but she has a better backhand.

Dec 18th, 2012, 07:59 AM
