The U.S. Open tennis tournament is moving the women's final to Sunday and men's final to Monday in 2013, building in a day of rest ahead of each title match for the first time.

The U.S. Tennis Association, which runs the Grand Slam event played in New York, is announcing the changes Friday - but only for next year.

USTA spokesman Chris Widmaier tells The Associated Press a decision about 2014 probably will come after the 2013 tournament.

The moves end the tradition of "Super Saturday," when both men's semifinals and the women's final all were on the schedule. The USTA is scrapping its Saturday night session in 2013.

Rain forced the USTA to postpone the men's final from its scheduled Sunday slot to Monday the last five years.

That's not exactly news, here's an article from Sept. 8: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/09/sports/tennis/us-open-tennis-will-scrap-the-super-saturday-model.html?_r=2&pagewanted=all&

Not a single drop of rain will come down next year during the 2 weeks.

I liked the Saturday night finals. So does this mean we will not get a night match after the QFs?

Should have did this last year

Should help the ratings and the WTA will need it when we lose Serena.
But then again I don't expect a Raonic vs Janowicz final to draw big numbers either.

Should have been done a long time ago. I will only say that...

What fucking idiots. They're going to make tennis compete with Sunday & Monday Night Football. Brilliant idea. Get bone crushed in the ratings.

Should have done it last year even though it'll kill ratings. The women's 2011 final and mens 2012 final probably would have turned out differently

So this applies only for 2013 ? Are they planning some other different schedule again ? :tape:

Stupid move. In the US, tennis can never compete with Saturday night programming. Men's final will get lost in the weekday and take a blow due to Monday Night Football.

4 millions increase in prize money.
Since this is the US, they won't give it to 1R losers.

Raonic and Janowicz won't be reaching slam finals.

There goes Sharapova's chances of making it past the 4th RD then. :oh:

Are they still going with the stupid spreading out of the men's 1st round over 3 days?
