Venus and Serena made the list of eleven women.

If you haven't heard of Serena, right, and Venus Williams, you've been living under a rock with earmuffs on. The tennis stars took home their third Olympic gold medal for doubles in 2012. Serena is currently the Wimbledon, U.S. Open and Olympic singles champion.

WTF  Seriously who was the genius that came up with such a ridicolous idea? 'The 11 fittest women in the world'; Really?

Venus?

Well, hardly the 11 fittest.

But 11 role models for fitness spread out across a bunch of different body types? Still pretty cool.

I get what they are saying, but the title "fittest" is misleading. I think the list is supposed to represent the female celebrities that most people in the world think of when they think of fitness/athleticism/strength.

Obviously Jessica Biel isn't the fittest or strongest/most athletic female, but in the movie industry, she is known for her beauty/athleticism. When people think of strong/athletic female athletes, Venus and Serena are likely at or near the top of the list.

Seems like the list is skewed more towards American views than world views, though.

This is not tennis celebrity only.
No one can deny Stosur is a fitness nut, but her celebrity quotient is not that high.

What a Fu@king joke. :help: In no way is Serena fit. she works out but in no way is she "fittest is the world".
I am so sick of Venus leaching off Serena. That chick can't even make it through a set without huffing and puffing in the back court.

If we go celebrity, why they missed Jennifer Aniston? She became really really fit and more hotter because of that:drool:

I don't think Venus is anywhere close to one of the fittest player on tour right now so let alone one of the fittest "celebrities" in the world. But it's not like if any athlete couldn't make that list. They basically picked different persons from different sports/areas and picked the one that is most likely the most popular in the USA/english speaking countries.

Jessica beil is a random ass choice, even if they were picking movie stars she would not be my first choice. And Serena is one of the fittest women in the world, how do you think she won the most titles this year (including doubles)? Stop hating. I love Venus but she should not be on the list, at this point they need to stop putting Serena and Venus together for every list. They are two different people.

As someone who has put on a few pounds, fittest does not equal best achievements. And let me tell you, I can still achieve babe. Serena is NOT the fittest. Is she the greatest? Duh. Let's not interchange the two, which CNN has done here. Talent knows no bounds - including fitness.

It's a pretty stupid piece, but that's no reason for anybody to attack Serena and Venus.

The stupidity of the piece is precisely illustrated by some of the reactions on this thread, because anybody who follows tennis knows that there are fitter players than these two. But they've been fit enough over a long enough period to do a lot of amazing things, so they don't deserve any disrespect just because CNN is stupid.

It's an extremely stupid piece in fact. For all we know the number 400 ranked player may be fitter than anyone in the top 100 but she doesn't get any higher despite of that because her backhand sucks. What's the measuring stick for 'the fittest women' anyway? Do they need to be fast, strong, lithe, have great endurance or what? If it's a combination of all those things I'd say that multi event athletes like Jessica Ennis qualify the most, but the whole idea of even making a list like this seems stupid to me.

Since we know your 2nd sentence is true, doesn't that mean that the people who are up in arms @ this article might be the actual "stupid" ones?
