I wonder if Shishkina's grown up yet. I liked her at first but she pissed me off so much with her annoying attitude last year that I turned against her. :o

I'd watch out for Jazzi Plews. She's 14 years old from Great Britain and won practically everything she played so far this year with a 30-2 W/L ITF record (even though she mainly played G3/G4s). Plus she's a great claycourter given that she trains at the Sanchez-Casal Tennis Academy in Barcelona, not to mention that all the ITF events she's played so far this year were on clay.

Jazzy (and by the way, her peers british Taylor and maybe a little less Lumsden) seem quite irregular. She did really well on juniors, but her results at u14 tournaments are very discreet. Everytime she met a top player of her age, she lost, and she doesn't even play against the ones with better results and most regulars (Fridman, Galfi or Payola).

About Shishkina, i think some young players who are being hyped from very young, like her or Tornado (no matter that the hype is because they show real promise of bright future and their results are impressive) usually had very bad attitude on court. I hope is something with time they overcome.

And she is not that above the level of the tournament, i really like Taylor but apart from Australia her results in the other GS were not bad but she didn't dominate at all.
Next year she need to do the transition to itfs, but for this year it would be logical to play Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl

I don't hate her, in fact i love her game, but even being the number one she is not that above the tournament. She need to get fit, and in my opinion it will be good for her to combine juniors and itfs for a while, sometimes give the leap to pros to soon is not good in the long run

What does 16E mean anyway?

16 exempt.

There are two sorts of 16 exempts.

1. Players in teams placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Junior Fed Cup.

2. Players selected through the regional U16 year-end ranking or U16 regional championships or national championships for USA and Canada.

Porter won US U16 nationals last year, I believe.

It's me or U14 is quite weak this year? i know generally Orange Bowl U14 is stronger (with a good bunch of girls who play eddie herr u16 playing u14 there) but i think it's the first time i see a clear favourite from the beginning (Dalma Galfi).

U12 is more interestings, not too many european tops, but interesting anyway with Desiatnikov, Kankova, Sunjic, Potapova and Conard (i miss Claire Liu on that list)

I'm not that surprised about the hard fight Shishkina was able to do. I know it was two years ago, but she was able to give a similar fight against Abanda (i think it was at orange bowl), and Maria is in very good form, so i expected a close match.

Fridman-Frenkel is an interesting match, but i expect Olga to win

Well, I've sent a message to their twitter asking if they could create a simple page on their site saying where players get assigned. I would encourage others do the same, maybe if another people ask they will figure something out.

How old is Gabbie now ? Her single result this year have been bad hopefully she can turn around next year, But she seem too be doing good in doubles maybe she be a great double player.

Gabbie is 15. She will turn 16 in December. Her doubles results have been great, but in singles her results have taken a nosedive. She used to dominate at the USTA level as a 13 and 14 year old. She was regularly reaching finals and winning titles at the national level, with multiple wins over McPhillips, Austin, Makarova, Hibi, and Yee. At the Orange Bowl as a 13 (almost 14) year old, she broke through at the ITF junior level in singles with wins over girls like Khromacheva and Keys to reach the quarterfinals. In 2011 as a 14 year old she also recorded a win over Mallory Burdette when the USTA junior team played Stanford.

That was all at 13 and 14. Every sign pointed to Gabby's meteoric rise in the junior rankings. She was a very exciting prospect, who at the time I only placed second to Barty in the '96 birth year. By now, I honestly expected her to be top 20 in juniors and top 400 in pros. But then, inexplicably, things came crashing down. After a solid first half of 2011 which included winning the 18s clay court championships, Gabby went 5-4 in singles, losing in the first or second round of her remaining events. In 2012 it's been even worse, with a 15-10 record overall, with a loss to Hibi (who only 1-2 years ago she dominated), and quite bluntly, no-name USTA girls such as Jana McCord and Taylor Davidson. She's also lost to mediocre players at the international level.

Simply put, I'd be pretty concerned if I were in Gabby's camp. I think part of her success came from confidence, and given her recent results, I doubt she has much of that lately (in singles at least).

WOW I hope she can get back too that level are atleast close, I would like too see her crack the 10 ten in Junior, do she have her on Thread in the USA Forums

I believe Ingrid Neel is the one that trains at John McEnroe's academy. Very nice win for her.

Although apparently now she is at Bolletieri.

I know who she is, and i know she is a good player, but she doesn't seem to be near Galfi's level. Maybe she improved a lot lately, but the last i remember from her was an easy lost against Nicole Frenkel, who is player more of Galfi's level, but that was long time ago, so she maybe improved a lot

Well, Hibi didn't steamroll over Andrews at ISC, won in 3 sets. In fact Hibi this year did pretty well, losing to EB winner Townsend 57,67 and National winner Duval in a tight 3 sets(3rd 46 or something)

Davidson a few days earlier (from the National) beat McPhillips in 3 at the Team Championship.

Abanda has gotten injured to the same shoulder that troubled her last year (or earlier this year?) Well this is looking bad. One of her coach will have to find solutions like making changes to her hitting and serving motions to put lesser pressure on her shoulder, cause really, she's 15 and that's already a problematic. If she wants a career that lasts, she'll have to change it up.

She's withdrawing from the Orange Bowl too.

From her twitter : "Injured at my shoulder again. Lost today in total pain. I won't be playing Orange Bowl this year. #Sucks"

Why not withdraw before the match ends instead of playing in pain...

I think she is good on clay, if my memory doesn't fail, she only lost one set (against Sorribes) in the fed cup junior. It was an u16 tournament but with a good level, and i don't think she was in her best form then

Edit: I was wrong, she lost sets to Haddad Maian and Kulichkova too

I'm pretty sure she's going to be playing for USA anyway  :o At least she does for ITFs. I still don't get why/how she is representing Puerto Rico here.

Her brother plays for Argentina

Potapova and Desiatnikov won, both born in 2001, and both have victories against top players of 2000.

I'm very lost with U16, from the last 8 girl i only knew Ndunda, Xie and Xu
