Anyone heard anything on this?

Lindsay Davenport just tweeted her congrats -

Congrats to Liezel Huber who adopted a beautiful baby boy this morning.

I guess this explains her absence in Tokyo?

Like her or not, congrats to the new mum :)

Congratulations Liesel. :)

(I hope this doesn't infer she can't, or has been advised not to have any of her own due to her health problems)

I think it might.:( But I also feel like this may be her way of having a child along with still being able to play. Her plan was to retire at the end of this season to have a baby, but in Australia she still wanted to play 2013. Now she can do both. And then when she is done with her career, try for another one.

Congrats on the baby:cheer: I wonder how old this baby boy is. How long will she be sidelined?

I hope you're right, but would you adopt a baby now if you're going to play for another year? How does that work? Would they even let you adopt under those circumstances?

Would you risk waiting another year to try for your own, all things considered?

Lots of questions, but I hope it all works out for her anyway. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if Istanbul is the end for Liezel. She's been talking about starting a family for a while and already has her own tennis academy in Houston, so she's got a job lined up immediately upon leaving the tour. Either way, congrats to her.

In a typical adoption process there is usually not a "guaranteed" delivery date... no pun intended. Perhaps it just happened sooner than she had anticipated?

LightsOut!

I'm not actually sure Liezel will play the YEC because Lisa tweeted this. I don't really understand the context but perhaps Beijing might be the end of her year?

@Babsschett And I have two weeks until I am finished!!!! Good luck and lmk how it goes!

Wow  If that's the case, Nuria and Mariajo better un-finish their year together and sign up for some tournaments ASAP or we might have Kops-Jones/Spears in the YEC :o

I understand they're not available on call, I just can't see her playing on now, surely that'd be almost impossible.

It also seems most likely she can't have her own kids, which must be a bitter blow for her. :[

I wonder how old this baby boy is.

Liezel Huber and hubby, Tony Huber, welcomed Joshua Jacob Huber to their family on Thursday, Sept. 27th. Joshua was born to his birth mother at 3:42 am and weighed 9 pound, 5 ounces and was 21 inches long. Congratulations to new parents Liezel and Tony on adopting Joshua. Welcome to the tennis family Joshua!

Looks like she just "paid" for it.

There's no way any child protection services would let somebody adopt a baby only to embark him/her on a worldwide tour.
Huber is retired.

Congratulations to the new parents!

She can't go to Istanbul two weeks after adopting a child. No way.

some comments just had nothing to do in this kind of thread. Liezel just became a mom , it's a happy moment in her private, personal life that has nothing to do with her on court behaviour , which a lot of posters overexaggerate by the way , you come here to congratulate her and read some awful bullshit . How disrespectful and silly :o

I think it's possible she will play/retire in Istanbul, but I agree with you. It would be one thing if she gave birth to the baby, but the main criteria of an adoption agency is to make sure the baby will have a stable life. Even if other players on tour have done it very well, an agency would not consider traveling 30 weeks/year with a child to be stable.

I'm sorry but that's wrong and irresponsible.

The baby will most likely travel with her but it's quite hard to bond with a child when you're practicing, playing matches or doing promotional work for USANA.

Hopefully it's her last tournament for both her and the baby's sake.

^She's probably only going to play one match anyways. Plus, it gives her a chance to say goodbye and help Lisa out by not sinking her ranking too much.

How is it wrong and irresponsible? I don't think an adoption agency would give her a baby unless she planned on retiring for fear of no "stable" life, but how is it any different from what Kim Clijsters, Lindsay Lee-Waters, Sybille Bammer, Rossana De Los Rios, and countless other WTA/ATP players with kids do? Plus Liezel's husband travels with her full time.

Would be kind of selfish if she didn't go to YEC, wasted opportunity for Lisa and having to play with Huber for the whole year for nothing :tape:

All these women came back after a few years. Not three weeks.
Any normal adoption agency would want the mother to stay home and "bond" with the baby.

Do we actually have official word that Huber is going to retire after playing Istanbul?

The adoption agency must've her word that she won't play anymore. Otherwise that's just crazy.

^^ You are too obvious.

Lindsay played a month after giving birth and she seems to be doing fine. I'm sure Liezel will too.

Not to mention there are many parents (mothers and fathers) who continue working after they've had a child.

Wiggly
Oct 2nd, 2012, 05:27 PM
Well I'm honestly surprised an adoption agency would let that happen.
You basically have to be a saint living in a monastery to get things going over here.

but adoptions work in a different way while natural parents are free to do what they want

come on, the baby will fly to Istanbul for a few days , so what .. won't kill him..
how do you think they (adoption agencies) do when people from America/Europe adopt African/Asian babies.. ?

and it's off-season just after that so they'll have plenty of time to spend at home nursing ..

and we'll see what Liezel decides after ! some people should stop judging and making assumptions cause they just don't know. Surely Liezel and her husband know what they're doing and it's probably not an idea that just popped out of their head and it's a decision taken with a lot of consideration..

Some people need to join the new millennium: working mothers are not irresponsible.

Seriously. Some people would say anything just to insult Liezel, not realizing exactly how idiotic and unsympathetic it makes them look.

Congrats to the new family :bounce:

I'm not saying anything to insult Liezel, her family or working mothers.

Profesional tennis require a lot of traveling and training. Not your average job.
I'm just amazed that an adoption agency would let someone adopt a baby only to travel with him all over the world for a year.

If you give birth to a baby, you can do what you want but when you adopt, you must give some guarantees.

Again, I hope that she'll retire for personal sake. Best of luck to the Huber family.

You people are ridiculous. She just became a mother, it doesn't mean she has to be home bodied for the next 20 years now. She's play (as far as we know) ONE final tournament in which she earned her place by playing well for over a year. Give her a break.
