View Full Version : Anyone here cares about Pearl Jam?

Nov 30th, 2002, 08:19 PM
Or any other band from the last worthy music motion (or revolution if you prefer) to happen?

Someone interested in some talk about this subject?

No... I liked Soundgarden though-- of the grunge era... well, Pearl Jam is back w/a new album, I know, but they were never my favorites!!!

Nov 30th, 2002, 08:26 PM
Their new album ROCKS I should say.
Dont judge this one for Binaural, they are completely different. Its worth at least a listen.

And STAY away from mag reviews. They all suck!

You liked Soundgarden? Check Audioslave then. Chris found himself a new band. ;)

Nov 30th, 2002, 08:28 PM
i like some of their songs. i like yellow leadbetter. the live version is amazing!!

I didn't know Cornell was leadsinger of Audioslave!!! I always knew Audioslave because I am an Audiovent fan, and I would ask people if they knew Audiovent, and they'd say no, and then say, "But I know Audioslave." It really bothers me. I have only heard them once. I ought to listen again I guess. I am sorry, I was just NEVER a Pearl Jam fan. But I haven't heard any of their new material, so... I have only ever liked one of their songs

Nov 30th, 2002, 08:33 PM
And which is that one song?

Audioslave is a mix of Chris Cornell and the remaining Rage´s.
It sounds good to me. :)

Anton, yes, Yellow Ledbetter is great played live. ;)

That song, it's like:

"Oh where oh where can my baby be
The lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven now I've gotten to be gone
So I can see my baby when I leave this ____ (world/road)?!?!?!

Pearl Jam is the best band in the world! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I just listened to Riot Act (which I downloaded) and it's BRILLIANT! I'm gonna enjoy that one very much.

Lol Hitman, I think we've already turned Juanqui's forum into the Pearl Jam appreciation thread. ;) Not that I'm complaining of course. :D

I haven't listened to Audioslave yet, I'll do that today. But since I adore Chris Cornell, as you already know, it would have to be really awful for me not to like it. :p

Dec 1st, 2002, 12:24 PM
also "Alive" is a great song

Last Kiss.
Released to the Official Fan Club Annual Vinyl Release together with Soldier of Love first.
It was then donnated to the "No Boundaries" album, which benefitted the Kosovo refugees.
That all happened a little bit before the Binaural release, if Im not mistaken.

Its a good song, a cover, as it is a very old one. Cant remember the name of the original singer, though.

I wrote a review on Riot Act, and posted at some other places. If anyone who hasnt read it yet wants to contribute, or even use it to get a little feeling on what the album has got, feel free to ask or comment. ;) Thanks

Riot Act, song by song

CANT KEEP - words and music by vedder
Good rocking song, very Pearl Jam-like. Different sounds, harsh lyrics, powerful performances. Smooth drums beat makes the start especially interesting.
"I wanna shake, I wanna wind out, I wanna leave, (this) mind and shout..."

SAVE YOU - words by vedder, music by all the crew
By far the best song of the album. The best song they come up with since Betterman or Nothingman on Vitalogy.
Energetic beat, makes you wanna shout along with them. The lyrics are also very good, and fit the sound perfectly. Special mention to Ament´s bass on this one. Fabulous.
"And fuck me if I say something you dont wanna hear fuck me
And fuck me if you only hear what you wanna hear
Fuck me if I care,... but im not leaving here."

LOVE BOAT CAPTAIN - words by Vedder, music by Vedder and Gaspar
Slower song, very beautiful lyrics, and a smart mention to the Beatles "All you need is love". It gets you thinking all song along. Interesting mix between very slow parts and rocking bits here and there.
"is this just another phase? earthquakes making waves
trying to shake the cancer off? stupid human beings
once you hold the hand of love.... its all surmountable"

CROPDUSTER - words by Vedder, music by Cameron
It looks like as Cameron came up with the music, he made it a good one for his drums, and they are indeed.
The lyrics are not as good, but the sound is and its even kinda sticky.
"light green to green, dark green, brown
every life is falling down
brown to black, its coming back
dies to be a part of the ground
seed to seedling, root to stem"

GHOST - words by ament and vedder, music by ament.
Good song to enjoy some wicked guitars. Gossard, McCready and Vedder kick ass on that department. The lyrics are also not brilliant.

I AM MINE - words and music by vedder
Work song, the videoclip is on mtv. As always, I dont think the first single is the best song of the disc, but oh well, it comes at a second place, I guess. The lyrics are VERY good, and the sound is great on the chorus.
"The north is to south what the clock is to time
theres east and theres west and theres everywhere life
i know I was born and I know that Ill die
the in between is mine
i am mine"

THUMBING MY WAY - words and music by vedder
The "mellowest" of the album´s songs, it has got probably the best of the lyrics. The soft and smooth sound makes a good package for the words.
"no matter how cold the winter, theres a springtime ahead.
thumbing my way back to heaven,...
wish that I could hold you,... wish that I had,...
thinking bout heaven,...."

YOU ARE - words by cameron and vedder, music by cameron
Matt plays some wicked distorted guitar all along, making the sound interesting and different. VERY different. The kind of music some people love and some people hate.
"love is a tower
and youre the key
leading me higher
when you let me in"

WANTED TO GET RIGHT - words and music by cameron
Strong drums beat, especially during the chorus, a bit of punk guitar here and there, another song not exactly Pear-Jam-like. But its not at all bad.

GREEN DISEASE - words and music by vedder
The typical song you would say one wrote when was high. Its a trip, from start to end. The sound is really good.
"tell the captain
'this boats not safe,
and we´re drowning.'
turns out
he´s the one making waves"

HELP HELP - words and music by ament
Hmm, this would be the only song I cant say I liked. Its not better than regular. Very dark, very emotional, strong lyrics, the sound is very harsh and depressive.
"resevoir,... of fate and fear,...
invisible,... in repair,...
a hundred thieves,... cast a spell,...
this is hell."

BUSHLEAGUER - words by vedder and gossard, music by gossard
Stone made the song, and the start is a great guitar solo. Vedder keeps it going with a "talkative" lead sing. His voice works perfectly well for it. Excelent song.
"a confidence man, but why so beleaguered?
hes not a leader, hes a texas leaguer.
swinging from the fence. got lucky with a stryke.
drilling for fear. makes the job simple.
born on third. thinks he got a triple."

1/2 FULL - words by vedder, music by ament.
Theres a clear inspiration on blues here. Especially the guitar solo that opens the song. And, although they use a style that´s not theirs as an inspiration, the song doesnt sound fake. The lyrics are also great, and fit it very well.
"dont see some men as 1/2 empty
see them 1/2 full of shit
thinking that we´re all but slaves
there aint gonna be,..."

Instrumental song, Eddie just keeps on making sounds, and there are background voices. Its really weird, as it sounds like a kind of theme song for a movie like "The Dark and the Darkness".

ALL OR NONE - words by gossard and vedder, music by gossard
The song to close the album sounds a lot like a good-bye. The calm atmosphere of a jam session, soft words. There is a good guitar solo in between, but not loud. It keeps the calm and low sound.
"heres the selfless confession
leading me back to war
can we help that,... our destinations
are the ones we´ve been before"

Fernie, they're your favorite band it seems?!

Dec 2nd, 2002, 12:36 AM
I like Pearl Jam too.

I haven't listened to their new album yet, only heard I am Mine. Not their best song but it's good to read that you think it's not the best song of the album so I should definitely listen to some more songs.

Dec 2nd, 2002, 12:36 AM
Yeah they are. :p

I guess its pretty much clear at this level. ;)

Dec 2nd, 2002, 12:37 AM
I wish these bands would go away already

Let the new kids have some fun

Dec 2nd, 2002, 12:40 AM
Believe me Josh, dont judge Riot Act through Binaural.
This album is MUCH more consistent. :)
Its not out of nothing that people are in awe for them once again. :)

*People DONT include critics, o´course.* ;)

Dec 2nd, 2002, 12:41 AM
New kids like who The Guy?

Dec 2nd, 2002, 12:42 AM
Lol TheGuy, even the Rolling Stones haven't gone away yet and you want Pearl Jam to disappear. :p

Dec 2nd, 2002, 12:45 AM
*secretely hoping not to hear some names for new kids*

King Satan
Dec 2nd, 2002, 12:45 AM
But the Rolling Stones Still kick ass, a lot of these old bands just get by by their names (Metallica)

They should just disappear and let the new kats do their thing

Dec 2nd, 2002, 12:46 AM
But WHO are the new "kats"?
Please, there are not many good bands. There´s still LOADS of space for good music.

Dec 2nd, 2002, 12:48 AM
Rolling Stones stopped kicking ass ages ago. I was at their concert in 1989 and it was a huge disappointment. But this is not the thread for Rolling Stones. ;)

There's plenty of room for old and new bands alike methink. As long as they produce great music and put their heart and soul into it, I'm all for it, and Pearl Jam are definitely doing that.

LOL, I hope you don't mean the boy bands. :p Cause that's the end of music right there and with it the end of the world.

I don't know hit lol

I'm just trying to start some stuff :p

Dec 2nd, 2002, 12:52 AM
Well, we start stuff when we have a point. Its lacking a bit there. ;)
As long as you dont mention someone like The Calling or any Boy Band, I wont mind you. :p

Anyway, thats not the reason why I posted this. I have some quotes from Eddie Vedder that made me crack.

"I wish I was a singer that remembered all the words"
after f'ing up "Wishlist."

"Hey, listen asshole! One more fucker throws a fuckin'
quarter out here and we’re outta here I’m tellin’ ya!
Fucker! What the fuck, you’re blowing it for fuckin’
everybody. Hit me with a fuckin' quarter again and
fuck it I’m outta here! We’re all outta here! Fuck
you! And if anyone sees someone throwing fucking
change right next to ‘em you have my permission to
personally beat the fucking holy shit out of ‘em thank
you very much, Fuckin' idiot! Aaahhh, that felt good
thank you."

Dec 2nd, 2002, 12:54 AM
:wavey: Another Juan Carlos forum refugee. I'll join your thread if I have anything to add . . . but so far, looks like you're doing a great job yourself :)

You should revitalize the nontennis thread on ATPWorld, too. I say that for purely selfish reasons, mainly, I don't want to keep jumping from forum to forum if I don't have to :o

I agree with The Guy!!!

And Fernie!! Ugh! I love The Calling! LOL! But they are not comparable with the bands discussed in this thread. They have rock music but at a different category, so leave them out of this!!!

Dec 2nd, 2002, 01:12 AM
Right, and Guga should retire and let the young kids play. Why is he still around at 26 (the age comparable to Pearl Jam, not young anymore, not yet old)? He's stealing the limelight from the young guns. :p

What kind of an point is that? It makes absolutely no sense.

Dec 2nd, 2002, 01:16 AM
Oh please, lets not turn this into an argument...
If you dont like them and want them to retire, fine... But this is supposed to be a thread for fans, as it is on the title.

Is that ok? Thank you.

Dec 2nd, 2002, 01:23 AM
Sorry Hitman! :o I wasn't really arguing, just enjoying a silly conversation. ;) I promise not to say anything more on this topic. My lips are sealed. ;)

By the way, LMAO at Eddie for cursing the assholes. But my favorite part is the last sentence. "That felt good, thank you." Too funny. :D

Dec 2nd, 2002, 01:25 AM
Can you dig up some more quotes? I love quotes, especially from people with a sense of humor.

I still have a tape of the Soundgarden interview somewhere. It was on European MTV when they still head Headbangers' Ball, hosted by Vanessa Warwick or something like that. And Chris Cornell just destroyed her. :D She had no idea whether he was taking the piss or being serious most of the time. She was prone to posing the silliest questions while being convinced that she was incredibly clever. ;) But it really was hilarious. I almost felt sorry for her. :o

Dec 2nd, 2002, 01:27 AM
Dont be sorry Layla. Lets just keep it at this. I did some answering myself. :)
I just think we got enough trouble in this board already. ;)

And yes, that quote is hillarious. I will post some more tomorrow.
I like the wishlist one though. Imagine him singing that in the middle of a show. I bet the crowd got nuts.

Dec 2nd, 2002, 01:28 AM
If I post all the quotes now, the thread dies fast. ;)
TH helped on this suggestion. :D Thanks Hackie!

Dec 2nd, 2002, 01:30 AM
I did? Er, okay :o

You're welcome, dahling! :)

Dec 2nd, 2002, 01:30 AM
Oh don't worry Hitman. I'll dig it up from the netherworld and bring it back to the light of day. ;)

Dec 2nd, 2002, 04:43 AM
I used to like them when I was younger.

Dec 3rd, 2002, 02:16 AM
More quotes. ;)

"Its good to know that our elected officials are
really looking after what is important.....and I'm
glad to know that I read in the paper the other day
that they are once again concerned about flag burning.
I mean after all there is nothing that pisses me off
more than walking down the street and seeing flags
burning everywhere. Flags burning here, flags burning
there....who gives a fuck if the oceans are going to
shit and the water is no longer clean! People are
burning flags after all. Save the flags! Save the

Dec 3rd, 2002, 02:17 AM
"We've been thinking about it...we're gonna play a new
song. If you don't like it...you know...you can go buy
the new David Lee Roth record, we don't give a fu*k"
(St Petersburg FL, 1994)

Dec 3rd, 2002, 02:20 AM
And this last one made me go LMAO! ;)
Lian Galagher fans, DO NOT READ THIS. lol

From Adelaide, 1998

Just before 'Habit,' Ed starts singing "Lemonade ... Powerade ... Adelaide," and everyone cheers. After 'Habit,' Ed has a very tongue-in-cheek chat about Oasis: "So I just wanna state for the record that ... ah ... I don't know if I'm speaking for everybody but ... we love Liam Gallager. I mean honestly ... I'll tell you what. I was walking around last night and I ended up playing pool with a couple of you, you're out there I know. Had a great time ... had quite few of those things--Coopers (or) whatever they are--Onya, mate! And it was just going great. I was making friends left and right ... then I was getting free beer, it was just quite a night. But then some asshole asked me for ah to take a picture ... and I just headbutted the fucker right in the head ... and it felt fucking great GREAT. It was awesome ... I tell ya ... it's pretty cool this rock star thing ... I like it a lot."

He's talking about Liam Gallagher who had headbutted a fan after he asked for his picture.

Dec 3rd, 2002, 03:08 AM
pearl jam are cool! I like that kind of music. eddie's voice is great.
*have to listen to Black now*:)

Dec 3rd, 2002, 03:19 AM
Hi Lola! :wavey:

And his quotes are great too. ;)

Dec 3rd, 2002, 03:24 AM
you mean the lyrics?

Dec 3rd, 2002, 09:47 AM
LMAO @ the quotes, Hitman! http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/hoho.gif

Eddie is a riot. ;) I love the one about the flags. You make me want to go and find some more. But keep them coming. :)

Mercury Rising
Dec 8th, 2002, 03:06 PM
I just bought the CD. Listened one time to it, and yes it's very different from Binaural. I like it :D

Dec 8th, 2002, 05:29 PM
I LOVE Pearl Jam! They are my favorite band. I love their lyrics and just pretty much everything about their songs. I've just learned how to play the guitar and I've learned how to play Better Man and Black.

Dec 8th, 2002, 06:21 PM
I don´t care Perl jam

Dec 9th, 2002, 01:54 AM
Thanks for the contribution, Catriel.

For the others, Pearl Jam held two shows on The Showbox in Seattle on days 5 and 6 of December. They are gonna show the new record two more times in Seattle, today and tomorrow, in the KeyArena.

Eddie played Bushleaguer featuring a Bush Mask, and Do the Evolution with a Bill Gates mask in one of the shows.

Also, it was announced that Save You is their new single, and it should hit the radions on December 10.

I have more news, but I guess these are enough. :p
If someone is interested in more, pm me or something.
