It's QF-time in NY and no one is watching the match between Vinci and Errani :help::sobbing::scratch:

What's the reason?

They're not big players

It's not really a big deal...

maybe because weather sucks and there's another match on Ashe?:weirdo:

As far as I remember, there wouldn't usually be singles matches on Armstrong on Wednesday except in cases where the schedule gets backed up for rain so nobody would have tickets for Armstrong except people who decided to head on over today.

all stadiums were filled the whole week and now Louis is empty, I don't think it has something to do with the weather

they are not interesting popular or hot players

Like most things in life it's more than 1 reason.

-Weather
-Players involved
-Football game tonight

It is because of the weather. All singles matches are supposed to be on Ashe on Wednesday so nobody would have bought tickets just to watch doubles and mixed quarterfinals. The crowd will be rather empty for the men's fourth round on the outside courts as well.

Main reason: they are not big names

But also, the match has no energy to it.
It looks like a practice session, with moon balls, overuse of backhand slice by Vinci, puffy balls.

Not that Maria-Bartoli is much better, but they have name recognition and hit a little heavier balls.

Jim Courier is probably watching Errani vs. Vinci, he thinks Vinci has the best all around game in the WTA

no wonder with this QF line-up

Sep 5th, 2012, 07:07 PM
Sharapova-Bartoli is happening at the same time. Maria's fans are rooting for her to rally. Maria's haters are rooting for her to tank. Of course, people would choose to watch that matches instead of two doubles players "battling" each other.

there aren't too many ppl on grandstand for the men's match either

wayitis
Sep 5th, 2012, 07:09 PM
no, what is a shame is the way they are playing this match away: like a practice session..

Also, Errani being relatively quiet after the screamfest against Kerber, is really interesting, it gives new ammunition to the whole discussion of grunting/screaming being more of a mental than a physical thing...

Ummm it's empty at Grandstand as well for the men's match

Tickets sold for today were meant to be only for Arthur Ashe, and it was last night that ground admission was sold for Louis & Grandstand

Today's tickets are for Ashe. There aren't any grounds passes at the US Open after the second Monday. So it's only natural that most ticket holders would want to watch Sharapova on Ashe.

Probably does have to do with the rain. It was raining hard this morning, so a lot of people probably were kept away (especially if they had tickets for yesterday).

Ashe is not even close to being filled, and many of those people are probably strays from Louis Armstrong.

Forza was probably on the money.

During a regular, non filled rain day (even on a Weds), I'm sure there would of been a much better crowd for Vinci vs Errani.

Sep 5th, 2012, 07:32 PM
Well, if Errani wins, now we know why she's the higher ranked player. And to tell you the truth, Vinci is not much taller than her.

Errani slays all regular sized, passive and underpowered foes!!

tennisbum79
Sep 5th, 2012, 07:32 PM
The overuse of the back hand slice by Vinci has reached a saturation level where it is no longer fun to watch

It's QF-time in NY and no one is watching the match between Vinci and Errani :help::sobbing::scratch:

What's the reason?

It's what happens when it's rained out. Check Andy and Ferrer when they started on Armstrong last year, Wozniacki-Wickmayer semi, Stosur-Kerber semi etc. - It's what happens when you have a far more compelling match on Ashe.

And before you harp on about how Novak's match is going to be filled - Marias match will end soon and everyone in the upper decks will go out to the grounds for food and drinks and choose to watch Novak up close instead.

Why complain about scheduling and crowd size if you've never been to the tournament or didn't take any semblance of effort into find out how seats and tickets are distributed?

Novak's match isn't going to be much more packed either since it's Roddick following Sharapova/Bartoli.

If nothing else, the ushers could be a little more accomodating. They were refusing to let people sit in the front row/reserved seats for Errani/Vinci which were completely EMPTY. When there's 350 people watching a match in an 8,000 seat stadium, how hard would it be to just let everyone move down to the front? It looks better from a TV perspective too.

Similar question: Why there's no full crowds at Sharapova-Bartoli match? Isn't Sharapova a "big name"?

already at least twice as many people watching Novak :wavey:
so much for the weather :p

Whenever I see these threads I always wonder if posters actually even watch the mens' sides of the tournaments since non-marquee matchups on that side are rarely full either

I have no idea what Djokovic-Wawrinka drawing more of a crowd than Errani-Vinci is supposed to say about the WTA, it's like Sharapova-Bartoli being practically full and Tipsarevic - Kohlschreiber being half empty  and the weather is definitely a part of it, you know the Kerber - Errani match the other day was packed full.

Well that's her normal backhand really, so it's not overused.

Vinci has a beautiful game to watch, with all the beautiful slices and efficient net play, I wish she could win some big titles, people should really see her matches...

The only reason that I can think that her match was not full is because her opponent, no one bears to watch 20+ shots rally plus 35mph second serves, along with the extremelly annoying grunt

The reasons have already been given.

Rain.
Extremely late sales for Louis Armstrong matches due to rain.
Weekday.
Rain.
Rain.
Rain.

Desperate people, quit trying to make it something negative about the WTA!

Americans are insular?

Give it a rest, dude.

New tickets sold. New session. Are you going to buy tickets on a day you know it's raining and it's the work week? No one is watching Djokovic so what's your point.

It's QF-time in NY and no one is watching the match between Vinci and Errani :help::sobbing::scratch:

What's the reason?

tennisfans are split into 2 groups : Povastans and insane Sharahaters, Pova-Bartoli was extremely interesting for both groups, becuase the former were waiting comeback the latter were sure about upset....

Same story happens when Williamses are in trouble
