Would that diminish the status of the US Open for you, the same way the random winners have done for Roland Garros? Or is Stosur just that great? Her titles would be Osaka, Charleston, US Open, US Open.

No it wouldn't

Absolutely not. Sam is a great player, and if she defends it she'll probably have beaten at least 2 of Vika, Maria and Serena.
This would also make her a saviour of the tour according to you, is Ana back on your shit list yet? :spit:

No, Stosur is a great player I don't know why people try to make her look so bad.

The lack of titles is due to mentality.

Azarenka and Kvitova are worse than Ivanovic has ever been. I would not mind if Ivanovic wins the tournament.

If she does good on her.

But never going to happen. The three other woman in her half pretty much own her so no way she is getting through two matches against them

It takes an amazing player to defend a title let alone a slam title at that. So no it wouldn't.

This is way premature, since Sam has to get past two formidable obstacles just for the privilege of playing (almost certainly) Serena in the finals. But if she does it, it will be great, and I can't see that anybody but her most rabid haters, and maybe fans of the others who she beats on the way, would be upset by it. Btw: how can somebody defending a slam title be considered in any way random?

Well if she can beat Vika, Maria(or Marion) and possibly Serena then NO.

But well the chances of that happening are quite less. :tape:

:spit: who's this kworb, guy?! If Stosur defended this title..it means she had beaten Vika, probably Masha and possibly Serena back to back to back ( those are all the other major winners this year) and would be the only player other than Venus who has beaten Serena in multiple major finals.

So no..that means she would have done an amazing job.

I don't disagree, I think it would show what a great player Stosur is. I was just wondering how others would feel.

Don't kid yourself, Stosur needs an incident like last year, '09 or '04 to win a final or any match against Serena.

She's officially in Serena's Burn Book. Charleston confirmed it.

Sam isn't responsible for the other players not able to beat the italians... Neither for Kvitová being unable to beat Bartoli... :smash:

It's very difficult that Sam wins again but still... :cheer:

Well if Sam does it there are some similarities with Pat Rafter.

First of all, she really has copied his serve, he had the meanest kick serve on the tour in his era, she has the meanest kick serve today. Rafter won the US Open in 1997 when no one expected him to, and defended it in 1998 when people were expecting Sampras to win it. Like Stosur, Rafter didn't win too many titles in his career, just 11 in total, but he did win the Canadian Open and Cincinnati in 1998 going into the US open so was red hot.

If Stosur does it, there will be a symmetry with Rafter, and hopefully it will propel her to win at least a few more titles. I can never understand why Stosur can't at least win one or two titles at the lower level.

Since when has the French Open been diminished. The fact the top girls aren't better on clay is their lack of variety nothing to do with the FO.

Had Stosur somehow won the U.S Open by beating her two most nightmarish opponents Azarenka, Sharapova (possibly), and then an on fire Serena (probably) not only would she be a more than worthy repeat champion, her respect level would go into a whole new stratosphere altogether. Pretty ridiculous thread all around. Alas it will not happen but it would have been a stupendous feat on her behalf, and her derailing the great Serena Williams in last years final was already one in itself.
