props to the russians for maintaining a single break of serve for the entire second set

williams sisters really didnt have a chance to break until the last game and the russians won 4 points in a row from 15-40 down

both williams sisters were awful. serena improved in the second set and she is why it was close but venus was just so bad

Kiri & Naughtya were playing fantastic!! :worship: Well deserved win & hope they win the title.

Serena started out just as bad as Venus but she got better as the match progressed except for her ROS which was a bit on and off. Venus just absolutely stunk to shit. You'd think bombing out in R2, she would have tons of free time to get in shape for doubles. :o

Venus was a walking target here 90% of the balls were targeted on here, Serena just didn't play well enough to cover Venus. Venus needs to know how to play percentage tennis.

Actually the WS could do nothing in this match. Kirilenko/Petrova made next to no errors and served flawlessly. As I've said before, Venus and Serena are NOT good doubles players, they win by virtue of intimidation, weak competition, teamwork, and their serves. Other aspects of their doubles play are horrible. They could NEVER win Slams with numerous partners like Hingis could. I'm glad a team was finally able to stand up to them and not choke/wilt in their presence.

Respectable loss to a very good doubles team. The WS just didn't have it tonight and oh well. For whatever reason I'm not bummed by this loss the way I would've been had it been Wimbledon. And I want Serena completely focused on singles here.

As much as Venus fucking blows it a lot, most of the win is on her racquet. Serena leaves Venus to fend the baseline by herself because she doesn't know how to poach at net to save her life. Venus at least bails Serena out on the baseline a lot.

Whatever, at least Serenus were able to win Wimbledon and the Gold rather convincingly considering they hadn't played in 2 years together. Nads/Maria can have their QF, we'll take our 5th Wimbledon and 3rd Olympic Gold :bounce:

13 major doubles titles!!! Heifa stay pressed!!!!
I really like Hingis but God her tards make me rethink it everytime they try to throw shade. Just give it up that your girl has been eclipsed in singles AND doubles by both the WS. I don't know why people take such offense that their faves don't compare to Serena/Venus. Nobody in the modern era does.

this may be one of the dumbest things anyone has written here

you dont win 13 majors through intimidation alone.

Get outta here with that. :rolls: A team that went from 1999 to 2012 without losing a match in straight sets certainly qualifies them as good doubles players. Not to mention the fact that theyve each won mixed slams.

Venus and Serena had an off day - it happens. I still consider themselves the best dubs team in the WTA when they are on. It's a joke they were't seeded.

But congrats to Makiri and Nadia - richly deserved win and I hope they take the title.

I loved Hingis's Doubles Player, apart from servicing half the male population, she was a well serviced Swiss time peice when on the doubles,

but give credit to the WSX2, they are fantastic double team aswell :-)

I'm a Hingis fan too, and I definitely think she had a better sense for doubles and would be able to adapt her game better to multiple partners than either Venus or Serena could, but you are just being delusional. The Williams Sisters are one of the strongest teams, if not the strongest, of the last decade. Last time I checked, teamwork and serve are key ingredients to doubles success for any team.

That was awful stuff from the sisters. I've never seen them play so badly! Serena's serve was non-existent and Venus was terrible at the net. I wonder if Serena had held in her first service game in the second set, would they have taken the set? It did seem like Serena got into the match after that. Venus had a good hold too. I think it was around this point that the WS (especially Serena) and Petrova were like wtf is going on!?

Kirova were very good, anyway, very composed, very solid and I think they were quite smart about their play. It seemed like they had a game plan and it worked. They really tried to keep applying pressure to one player at a time and made poaching at the net a little difficult. I wouldn't mind seeing them win the title. They're a good team.

I'm shocked. Perhaps their worst loss as a team in terms of the scoreline? Petrova seems to be their bogey player as the WS lost to Petrova/Mattek-Sands at Roland Garros a few years ago and Petrova/Kirilenko gave them a hugely competitive match at Wimbledon. Even so, never would have expected this seeing as Kirilenko/Petrova were a few points from losing to Sanchez/Falconi.

If I had to pick one team to stop the Williams Sisters from the title, Kirilenko and Petrova was that team. Great win for Kirilenko and Petrova continuing their good play which got them a bronze at the Olympics after losing to the gold medalists in the semifinals. Kirilenko and Petrova also had chips on their shoulders after losing 3 setters in singles to Hlavackova and Sharapova respectively.

Now, will Kirilenko and Petrova be able to win their first Slam.

Petrova peaks every time there is a Williams on court! It's hilarious, but understandable. She loves playing them. Good for her to get the win with two different partners, quite a rare feat to beat the WS with different partners.

I am not even surprised by this. Venus didn't look well from round one, she looked like she carried over the back problem from Cincy and with the health problem that she has, she was just half the form she was at Wimbledon and Olympics. Yesterday was simply very bad, first set was awful from both Serena and Venus, in the second Serena was better but Vee just kept losing the points in key moments.

I think it's god awful that they keep drawing each other in the third round. They have beaten them in Wimble and Olympics. This match was a lot like Wimble, it;s just Serena didn't have the form today to bail out her team, which was the scenario in Wimble. Why can;t Serena/Venus draw other easier teams in slams, even Vinci/Errani, Hradecka/Hlavackova, Raymond/Huber will be a lot easier than Petrova/Kirilenko.
