View Full Version : The Fitness of the Italian Players

I noticed how FIT all of them are:
Schiavone
Errani
Vinci
Tarbin
Farina Elia
Pennetta

Is it something in their training, their diet....they all seem to have low percentages of body fat. I compare them to tennis players from Russia or the US where the girls seem to be fuller in size. Just a thought...

Good genes plus good training perhaps?..surprisingly though most of them are quite late bloomers. So experience might be one of the factors. Their games quite rely on fitness too, plus being raised as a clay-courter gives that benefit of knowing how to move around the court. I bet all these together make them very good players with good fitness.

Anyway, it seems the latest generation of Italian is looking to change the tradition of game-style a la Camille Giorgi.

Yes, they are physically fit.

At the same time, they often run out of has despite their trimmed look.

what are you smoking? Sugarpova, Kiri, Nadia, Makarova, Vera, King are in great shape. Serena, Sloane are in super great shape. Schiavone is like Venus too old to be in great shape longer than 5 min a year.

Have you seen Oprandi? The players you mentioned are primarily all grinders. You need to be fit to be able to play that kind of game.

I'll agree that they seem to have a low percentage of body fat. But I don't think having that automatically means one is fit. Toned yes but there's more to being fit.

All doping i guess, or a really hard physocall preparation ;)

You know how how it is in Italy (like Spain for Nadal and his crew).

It's in the genes/DNA.

It's like why the Ethiopians, Kenyan (and other people from that dry air, hot highlands area) are such good long distance runners.

Note: I wasn't speaking about how they look. I was addressing their conditioning.

Rubbish thread.

First of all only three Italians (Schiavone, Errani and Vinci) are really "visibly fit" in some stereotypical way.

The others are all over the place - some of them are skinny (as Camila Giorgi) and others are as fat as a yank (Romina Oprandi) and others look totally ordinary (contrary to the OP garbage claim, Pennetta actually looks ordinary - that can be verified on the bikini thread for example)

By this thread OP's implied "she looks fit & toned - therefore she must be juiced" criteria Sloane Stephens is a steroid bunny.

Few People.....
Oudin
Kutznetsova
Kvitty (not russian but e. euro)
Bartoli
Serena (at one point)
Harkleroad
Puchelokova(spelling all wrong but the fat chick)
...Should I keep going?
The italians are fit....I don't think it's doping..

They are all grinders, can hang in points, play 3 setters like the first. To me that equates being fit to last that long.

YOu are looking for a fight where there is none. I never said doping, i think players are tested regularly enough to where this wouldve come out. I just like they fact that all of them seems to be cut from the same cloth. Get in the best possible shape, and shoot for the stars!

first, being slim != being athletically fit, second endurance of "proper" ussr girls like Pavluchenkova is beyond achievement by any Italian girl.

btw, My Kvitty screwed up conditioning at start of the season but now she is almost at her 2011 form, so get over with it

Pavluchenkova: THANK U!

Kvitty....would be unstoppable if she focused on her conditioning. The game is there. No Hate here, I like her.

Yes all very fit. But only Schiavone is muscular.

Funny thing is most of them are smaller players, good doubles players.

Look at this moron acting as if that statement is preposterous.

:spit:

http://tennishasasteroidproblem.blogspot.de/p/the-case-against-tennis.html

Tennis has some of the weakest anti doping test regimes in all of sports. Besides, Marion Jones was a track athlete (a sport tested much more stringently than tennis) and never tested positive and Armstrong was probably the most tested cyclist (probably the most stringently tested sport in the world) and still didn't test positive.

But yeah it would definitely come out.

http://tennishasasteroidproblem.blogspot.de/2012/09/errani-on-dr-luis-garcia-del-moral.html

http://tennishasasteroidproblem.blogspot.de/2012/10/dr-luis-garcia-del-moral-and-tennis.html

So let's see: Errani has almost no bodyfat, is ripped as hell, has cardio for days, trains at the tennis academy where Armstrong's (banned) doping doctor worked (and where David Ferrer, a guy who is peaking at 30 and has endless cardio despite being a smoker, trains) who suddenly, out of nowhere, at the age of 25, started to make quarterfinals and semifinals in the slams (except on grass, where no amount of juice would help her ) but was completely useless outside of the major events (common with users who are cycling off).....

Oh wait there is no evidence...except there is. What would you call the stuff that I typed in the paragraph above?

I suggest you guys educate yourselves in that blog I linked you to and be sure to read the comments as well.

Athlete's juicing is hardly a preposterous thing. It's about as much of a stretch as teenage boys wacking it to porn.

Well of course Italian tennis players dope. Like all other tennis players. That has probably nothing to do with their suspected higher fitness level.

Well, there might be differences in doping methods, but that is purely speculation in a sport with zero doping transparency. Italy has a history of endurance and muscular endurance doping, mostly because the doping research was driven by the development in football there. In the US, for example, power (+ muscular endurance) doping research was always more advanced, due to requirements in American football, baseball and athletics. One could assume that, therefore, US tennis players are better doped towards power, while Italian players are better prepped towards endurance, but that is hard to tell as long as there is no actual attempt to uncover doping in tennis.

I don't think you can say that all other tennis players dope, but somebody like Errani seems to be more likely than most.
