Errani is such a bad match up for Kerber. The best way to defeat Errani is to hit through her, but Kerber does not have enough pace of shot. In the end went for too much, and Errani's spin and angles make it so hard for Kerber to hit balls in her hitting zone consistently,

Errani is so good. She still won't get recognition despite producing slam result after slam result this year.

This match made me miss Sanchez-Vicario though. A very good showing and some very entertaining points.

Kerber was hesitant to take the initiative and create the pace first and ended up getting played by Errani's spin.

Kerber has some issue with Errani. Credit for her as she played very well and probably sealed her ticket to YEC.
She has such an annoying grunt though... especially when she chases a short ball at the net. :o

This might be a career-changing loss for Kerber. Frustrating, disappointing. She somehow looked beaten from the start, not having the confidence nor the consistancy to rally with Errani forever.

This result is so frustrating. How many times Kerber was unlucky with the netcord?

Expected :awww: but still a great season for Kerber. She needs to rest up and get back the consistency and intensity she had at the beginning of the year. Also some questionable shot selection today, she got killed on every drop shot and net approach but she kept trying them.

Errani played a great match, there were points where she was the baseline aggressor and not doing a half-bad job with it, and her touch and passing shots were flawless. Well deserved.

 at all that hate to sara but the only person to blame is Kerber herself, her mentality at this US open has been abysmal and she only has herself to blame, maybe it the first time she has felt pressure of defending big points because she has been riding a wave since this time last year but back down to earth with a bump, I am so pleased for sara she deserved this better player today and hit some sweet volleys fully deserved never gives up and fights and so happy with the win... :) :bounce:

I am delighted by this result:drool: And I am not even fan or a hater of both.
I still have no idea how people were so convinced that Errani will fall during the hard court season. It´s not even like she had some terrible W/L ratio in the past, surely clay is her best surface but it doesn´t mean she can´t win on hardcourts. It proves that it was just delusional wishful thinking coming from haters. Second GS QF for Sara this year on HC, right in your face:wavey::drool:

Of course people will probably call this match as "horrible" despite 60 winners:lol:

Kerber was so pathetic. Her attitude caught up with her. I thought she was great? Did she not state that emphatically? Did she not win the poll when it was asked if she was great?

If she could not handle "that" serve, she deserved to lose. Errani played her game and pulled Kerber down into long drawn out, slow rallies. I thought Kerber was taking the 2nd set when she started hitting her forehand. I stepped away. It was over in no time before I realized it.

Errani has Kerber's #.
You have to love the bottom half. Imagine is Serena was not in it.

part of the blame goes to those who made the draw in the first place

honestly one of sharapova, stosur , kvitova or azarenka should have been in the bottom half

Errani gave a form reminiscing the French Open 2012 final run, Errani is a little fighter who will never give up and keep striking a ball till the last point. Congrats on making QF fot the third time of the year. What a great year she has had.

Kerber, I must say she is someway disappointing. In some points, she should focus more on winning the points, going for deep, aggressive shots rather than lingering on her emotion, the feeling of anguish, defeat, that's what make her different from the winner today, Sara did not give up even though there are moments when she was down, she rose to the occasion and fought her way to win the big match.

Kerber faces a good opponent today and she should be proud of her result nonetheless.

Good match, good result for women's tennis.

Not a fan of Errani, but she did what she had to do. And with another Slam QF this year (more than Serena ) I'm fine with her qualification for Istanbul.

As for Kerber, I hope her hardcore-defenders and fans finally realise with this match that Kerber's not such a great talent in adapting to her opponent. She can only adapt to hard-hitters and beat them by counterpunching and pushing, but in a match like this vs. a player like Errani, who doesn't give her any pace, she can't find answers. The key to win today was playing agressive, and Angie didn't do enough.

I really don't understand the most of the posts here.

I really don't understand why Kerber has so many problems with Errani. She was so bad at FO and so bad today. She plays with fear, no hope, no will, no determination.
She has to go for her shots, standing not 2 metres behind the baseline but 1 metre in the field when Errani hits a 2nd serve.

The 2nd serve from Errani at 6-4 in the tiebreak was the slowest serve i saw the whole tournament. Unbelievable.

KERBER made Errani looks like a dangerous opponent.
But she isn't. Errani is not playing very well, she's not playing like a Top 10 player. She just hits the ball on the other side and makes few errors.

I truly do not understand why Kerber was so many problems with those spin balls from Errani. It seems like she hits exactly at the wrong point - at the point where those spin shots are at the highest point - and therefore she can't hit through those shots.

Strange match, bizarre match and slow match.

Most of the shots (really, like 8 out of 10) were TOO SHORT from both.

In my opinion it was a very bad match.
Both players do not made loads of errors and therefore we see long rallies.
But long rallies do not mean good match.
It's just nice to see long rallies from time to time and it is kind of "refreshing" to see two players who do not take huge risks on every shot like Kvitova or Na Li but i was really disappointed with this match.

Errani did play ok and it was enough. Nothing more in my opinion.

all credit to Sara who really exercised her strategy in perfection: always topspin to Kerbie's bh - just too wearing for the German again. Eveyone who thought this clay court style wouldn't work here was just wrong. It was perfect. :worship:

Angie: this was a heavy loss, esp closing out the 1st with that lethal DF.

Errani is such a pusher,
just waiting errors from Kerber~25 winners. Not exactly just waiting for your opponent's errors.

Scream doping, pushing, all you want. She's passed every drug test, and everybody has tape on her. She plays the game of tennis very well. If you can't blast her off the court, you're probably going to lose.

One might add, Errani has the muscle definition of your average centerfold model. That is to say, none. The only evidence she's doping is where she trains, and the fact that she's winning more. Well, the players ARE supposed to ry and win as much as possible. Maybe she is doping, but it's clearly something that makes you a SMARTER tennis player, as opposed to a stronger one. The whole tour should be taking it.

sry guys Kerber is a HYPE
She does not have serve
What about her "powerful" ground strokes? As seen, Kerber cannot end winners. Instead UE

sxeraserhead
Sep 3rd, 2012, 08:49 PM
People who think Kerber is incapable of dictating a match on her own should have seen her at last year's USO and the early part of this season before clay. Her groundstrokes have simply been much less consistent since then which is why she is now much more defensive, as she doesn't trust her strokes. The last match I can remember where she looked like Paris-winning Kerber was against Clijsters. Of course, it's hard to say whether her current form is due to fatigue from her first lengthy season or if her earlier form was just an anomaly.

Please stop with the doping allegations if you do not have any evidence. If she has passed her drug tests, then there's no there there. I can't see where Errani has gotten any extra strength or power if she were doping.

Told you. Errani is the worst match-up for Kerber in the top 20, especially if she plays the wrong tactics. You should be mildly electrocuted every time you stand a meter behind the baseline on Errani´s 1st serve, and full blown tazered if you do it on the 2nd serve.

Luckily for Kerber most players have no topspin or are simply retarded. She´ll get pace and flat bombs to play with in the future, but every tactical versatile player with a coach worth five cents will do it like this and much easier, if they actually have a legit killshot like Na Li. It´s Wozniacki all over again, only that Kerber has a bit more offensive tools. But at this stage of the year she is probaby worn down, which hurt her already shaky technique.

She hit 35 of them. Her mental attitude was the thing that let her down today. When she got back from 0-3 to 3-3 in that second set I thought all the momentum was with Kerber and she'd go and win the set. Instead, she went on to gift away the next three games and therefore the match as well.

This is just not a good matchup for Kerber. She needs pace as she doesn't have the power nor the technique to generate pace on her own. That's why she is struggling with Errani, who always going to be more solid than Kerber. On a fast court I would give the edge to Kerber as her lack of power would be less evident, but on a slow court she is in deep shit against Errani. Painful stuff to watch, really, and I admire people staying to watch the entire shitfest.

This had to be one of the most exciting and enthralling matches, I have seen this year. I enjoyed it very much even though I was cheering for Angie. The ebb and flow and constant switches of momentum kept me thrilled and on the edge of my seat. There were countless exciting hard fought points too numerous to reiterate executed amazingly by both players. Angie has had some tough losses this year and I hope she’ll learn from them to become a truly formidable player and become a fixture in the top five.

As for Sara Errani, this match showed me that she has earned her ranking and truly deserves to be in the year end championship. Perhaps being victim of the golden set at Wimbledon may be viewed as a negative but in reality it was just one of those things that happened to her but does not discredit her abilities or talents. The reason she won this match was in part because she was able to handle her nerves better than Angie.

Its so intresting. Kerber enjoy playing against big hitters like Serena, Kvitova, Venus,Sharapova. While Errani-Radwanska is in big trouble against big hitters
But Kerber is totally hopless against Errani-Radwanska style. She dont know, should she defend or attack. Very sad to watch

That was really a greta match! lots of great rallies! I enjoyed it pretty much but I have to admit I didnt expect Angie to lose at all I totally thought she will win, but Errani improved so so much. She has great movement around the court and reads game very well! I hope Vinci beats aga now =D cause I thought Angie has better chances vs Aga and I dont want aga in SF heh. Angie is still not yet how to say at her best I mean the ds she uses when she doesnt know what to play its so bad her ds r really ineffective. And today she made some errors that she needed to cut down. though I am positive I think she wont be much drained about this loss. It was all about first set mostly and Sara was slightly the better player there. Angie showed even bigger fight in 2nd coming back from 3-0 down almost having broken again but it didnt went her way due to some errors. People who say Errani is uselles bint etc. watch that match please. and to the others who say Angie is pusher like Woz u can too

Love her or hate her, but Sara is solid as a rock.
She reach the quarterfinals only losing a set (in first round). And apart for wimbledon (yes it was a little embarrasing the golden set, but a third round is not bad for her) reaching the latter rounds on the GS

Tough loss for Angie and of course the brutal first set was the killer for her. Hopes were high, but now again down to earth. And everybody who understands a tiny bit of the sport knows, that we germans have a couple of pretty good players and Angie seems to be the current best. But of course none of them is ready to be a slam champ yet. Maybe Angie can, but she still needs to beef up some things. Today Saras tactics worked great with all those high spins to Angies bh and because of that, congrats to Sara for winning this hard fight.

You are absoultely right! I got the same feeling.

I wish Angelique would do two things:

1. Stop putting her hand up to challenge in the middle of the point, she does it too often, and often loses.

2. When she lobs an opponent and they are running backwards to retrieve the ball, don't just stand there at the baseline, go to the damn net! She loses so many of those points because she doesn't take the initiative and sneak in.

Commentator Frew Mcmillan said that years ago, and I have followed that maxim since, and yet so many modern players stand at the baseline like lemons and end up losing points!

Kerber has grown to be one of my favourite players, but her performance was far too negative. How can she not have stepped up to attack those slow, slow serves, yet raced to the net on a mediocre approach shot?? Some fantastically entertaining rallies, and that get from Sara's drop shot in the first set was brilliant from Angie
I hoped she could go on to tie Serena a good match, but a tough build up and that long match against Venus seemed to have her out of ideas. Errani played a great (if super noisy!) match and retrieved and battled very well, getting Angie all frustrated. I still think Angie can consolidate her place in the upper reaches,of the top 10, but needs to improve her serve and be less negative in her body language when up against it.

My 2 favourites, Kvitova and Kerber gone in less than 24 hours.. Boo hoo!:(
Is anyone betting against Serena? Surely she needs to fall over and break both her legs for anyone else to win! ;) :)

It was nice to see Kerber atleast tried something different in the second set even if not completely successful. She was definitely aggressive and going for winners, so people need to please stop with the Caro comparisons. (The drop shots however, were poorly executed).

Kerber needs to at least project a sense of calm even if she is not. The display of her grumpier-than-usual self with frustration and negativity is surely only going to aid her opponent mentally.

Virginia did not have any qualms about stanning for Errani, neutrality be damned. At one point, she even exclaimed, "Good girl!" when Errani won a point.

Well as from now on there's not too much for her to gain anymore. Let's see how she handles the pressure. I'm 100% that she will lock back in anger at these GS-matches vs. Errani. What a missed chance.
Next year, when she has to defend an awful lot of points, she will look back on this as an easy-peasy task.

was at the match. HORRIBLE strategy by kerber. errani's serve had nothing on them and in the first set she was content to just put them back in to play and be super passive. And don't get me started on those moonballs. She was more aggressive in the second, but she was mentally defeated by then

Truth is that Errani is bad matchup for her. Kerber plays much better against hard hitters. Today her main problem was Errani's topspin forehand on her backhand. Her options were: hit hard with big risk of errors because she can't control well that kind of shot or be more passive waiting for a chance to get the point. In the 1st set he chose to be more passive and, even if Errani made more unforced errors than usual, she was less solid and Errani sometimes attacked with 19 net approaches (and 16 points), which is quite a lot. In the 2nd set she actually tried to be more aggressive, but she made much more unforced errors and lost it even worse than the 1st. Looked like a cul-de-sac.

Sara played well, expected better from bugger Angie though, the guts of her game is there but she needs a bit of tweaking, played into the noisy bugger's gameplan too much:sad: And she should have carried on with some Bepa towelheading when things were going to shit.

I've seen people on the board call Sara "Doperrani" (clever, right?).

She's beating their faves I guess?

I actually like her story/revival.

Why should only the "chosen ones" be the only people to reap the rewards of Tennis Success.

Why can't a lower ranked/regarded, smaller player, turn around their career and have a great year? I think that's inspirational and a blue print for hard work, hope and execution.

Even if she falls off the map in the future (which both her and Kerber probably will-mores so Errani); so what!?

I'm sure neither Errani or Vinci will forget 2012 (and may they have even better 2013's).

Bravo/Magnifico!!

I think they were talking about Kerber.

Everybody keeps saying she has/had the Lance Armstrong Doping Doc. :oh:That's Errani's doc from Spain they were talking about.

After working w/ Armstrong & co he was in business with some Spanish tennis academy, which is probably where Errani bumped into him... incidentally there've been lots of ATP players connected to the academy, plus a couple of WTAers (notably Safina & Kirilenko).

Venus :o shoulda made the semis...if only...

I really thought Kerber would be all over Errani on a hardcourt though. Surprising result IMO

Bravo indeed! I'm a Kerber fan, but Errani deserved it today, is very underrated and is disparaged too much on this board.

Vinci after a bit of a slump has turned it on the last two tournaments.

Two doubles partners and best friends playing each other in the quarters. Congratulations to both!:worship:

Oh well, at least Ana reached the QF too.

What a great GIF, perfect for the outcome for this match

:weirdo: WTF is this Kerber -- Serena's draw isn't even a cakewalk anymore best they had just put her in the F directly plus stupid Agatha lost to.

What's up with Kerber being so fucking useless against fellow [s]pushers[/]grinders? I mean, its not like she cannot be aggressive herself so why don't be more initiative in such match-ups.

I know there's no point in even trying to set this straight, but Sara has never been a patient with him. The only time she ever saw him was when she got a standard cardiac test with him because her own doctor was on holiday. He has never treated her or anything.

3rd Slam QF this season for Sara :)

but there's still people doubting she belongs in the top 10. oh well ...
and there were also loads of people who thought that this match was NID - in kerbers's favour. so to summarize: errani gets constantly underrated and i'm sure she's alright with that as long as the good results keep coming in.

:wavey: Kerber, that's for taking out the Queen.

oh my  your world is smaller than a termite's egg.

Boy oh boy, what a clever post.

The fact that you tell this like you know because you are Erranis 24/7
bodyguard ...

The fact that most of these stories begin "We only accidently met and I got
only a tape" ...

is two own goals at once within one nice try.

Brava.

Very insulting to think Errani is succeeding because of doping. Both she and Kerber have been on the main tour since 2007. Both were nobodies a year ago, and both have had massive climbs into the Top 10. But only Errani gets the doping suspicion?

this...

So many people on this board not giving Errani any respect at all. Questioning if she deserves a spot in the YEC or whether she'll make it at all. She's had and continues to have a great season and deserves it from all the hard work she's put in. Last but not least Congrats on another stellar performance.

This. Fully agree. I was even surprised what an improvement she has done

Hilarious how Errani deployed the exact same tactic as at the French Open, and it worked (the fact that this was American hardcourt was inconsequential)

Yeah. Angie didnt know what to play :help:

Lots of Wozniacki indeed in Kerber's game. NO serve whatsoever..such a big girl and no investing in her serve?! :help:

Stop with compating to Woz looks at some of her matches and stats

Wow, well done Sara. Still can't understand why people say that she doesn't deserve going to the YEC when her results in Grand Slams are being impressive.

They cant probably take that most probably or surely Woz wont make it ans Sara probably yeah  otherwise I dont know

Interesting match. Errani played well. Kerber? Not so much. One thing is clear tho: Kerber doesn't like those deep floating balls much more than Venus Williams did. Errani Junked it up on her. Kerber clearly prefers pace.
