View Full Version : USO 3R: Tsveti "Karlovic" Pironkova def. Soler-Espinosa 6-1, 6-7 (3), 6-3

Tsveti's serve saved her, even though Soler-Espinosa wasn't playing that well.

10 aces, 81% first serves won.

Silvia fought hard to come back from what should have been a straight-set defeat (trailed 1-6, 0-3), but Tsveti showed her experience in clutch moments. Huge backhand pass at 4-3*, 30-0 in the 3rd to essentially clinch it. And the serve didn't fade as much as it usually does. The 10-minute heat break certainly helped with that.

Well, that green color on the court confused Tsveti. She really thinks she is at Wimbledon. :yeah:

Hell to the Yeah :worship:

Scratchy at times but she served well.

Tsveti has some very vocal support over in the US

Im expecting her to get a bit further, once she passes the second round hurdle she normally goes deep.

Phew

Tsveti led 6-1 3-0 I think.

Yeah, with a double break in the second :o

The result was still NID.

Tsveti :yeah: Good luck in next round :oh:

Did she have MPs in 2nd set?

Please, do not tell her it's not Vinas who is waiting for her in the QFs. She obviously got confused and that's why she is steamrolling there so well. :sobbing:

No, she fell behind 5-4 and struggled hang on. Tiebreaker wasn't close.

Did she have MPs in 2nd set?

No MPs in second set.

Pironkova got outplayed from the baseline for most of the time at the end of the match. Luckily for her, her serve was working well and SSE is a local scrub.

At 6-1 3-0 winner count was 27-9 for Pironkova. Finished with 38-20.

Beating Giorgi, Morita and SSE for a R4 at a Slam is certainly a nice draw.

You are right about the heat break saving her. From 3-0 to 4-5 in the second set, she was huffing and puffing. Even put back to back second serves in at 65 and 66 mph then.

Pironkova absolutely played flawless tennis in the first set and a half, she was hitting winners from all over the court, than all of the sudden she started fading away, her balls started to fly shorter, Silvia started getting more confidence, Pironkova looked sluggish and slow.
In the third set Pironkova's serve kept her in the match, Espinosa made a few sloppy mistakes and Pironkova upped her game a little bit for the break but still Pironkova looked sluggish and inconsistent at times, the heat was not her friend in this match but in the end Pironkova was the better player, stepped it up on the key points and won the third 6-3.

38 winners today and 10 aces!!! Most of those winners and aces coming in her streak when she was just red hot and Silvia had no answers!!! Great win for Pironkova and if she played like she did in the first set and a half than I expect to see her in the QF's.

Go Tzveti, top 45 once again. Aide.

Mug match.

Pironkova is embarrassing to watch on HC.

You must have missed the first set Pironkova was playing at a really high level.

28 winners in a set and a half is very good that is until the heat got to her, in the end she did what she needed to survive, that is what any good player does, you cannot always be at your best. Some times you have a drop in quality but Pironkova did very well do dig herself out of that.

Anyway why am I wasting my time explaining this to you, you sound like a 12 year baby who has no idea about tennis!

Every time Pironkova hits a FH it embarrasses the tour.

Tvseti's forehand kicks ass. Her slice forehand is one of the most delightful shots in the game. :hearts:

Yes, but she doesn't use it enough. I wonder what would happen if she exclusively hit slice and flat forehands rather than her ineffective topspin shot that has no distance control? Niculescu got into the top-30 with that plus a serve and BH worse than Pironkova's.

There's not a nation that produces more boring players than Spain... Sanchez Vicario, Martinez, Medina Garrigues... now Arrubarrena Vecino, Soler Espinosa. The only player from Spain I like is Muguruza Blanco.
Well done Tsvetana. Would've sucked to have lost such a chance.

When Pironkova crushed her forehand returns I honestly thought they were the hardest groundstrokes I've seen all tournament long on the women's side. Just absolute rockets.

In rallies, though, her forehand is very bad...

Also the most sexist, stupid, inaccurate, full of himself and full of shit commentator EVER award: Luke Jensen.

Tsveti was in GOAT mode until her serve got broken at 6-1 3-0. Soler started playing much better by playing heavy shots to the Pironkova forehand, but Tsveti managed to pull it out. :woohoo:
