the H2H is really 8-0 for maria and nadia has barely gotten sets off her. Its really hard to imagine nadia winning this one.

I'm pretty excited about this. Although their matches usually turn into totalshitfests, and Masha wins on mental strength alone, they've had some epic battles. 2005 US Open QF for example Masha won 75 46 64.

Nadia always found ways to lose in this matchup even in her prime. It would be a miracle if any other result than a Maria win occured.

She does everything better than Petrova except volleying (which doesn't really matter cause Petrova never made it to the net against Maria in the first place). Even serveless Sharapova beat her three times in a row in 2009. Given how Sharapova served these past 3 rounds it should be the usual beatdown.

Even though everyone on this board back in 2009 for some reason seemed to think Petrova always rolled over when she played Maria, she actually usually plays her pretty tough (their Stanford match in 2009 is the only one where she didn't really show up at all).

I can see Petrova serving well enough to maybe pinch a set on a tiebreak, but hopefully Maria should pull it out. Hopefully facing such a good server will get her returns ready for if she plays Petra and/or Serena.

when i saw the draw i had a nice feeling about NIDia's chances for a qf, and ill stick to it.

Maria in two hopefully. Petrova should be a challenge which is good for Maria, she needs to be challenged before she goes on top face Petra or Vika.

Nadia is so much weaker mentally than Maria and she's gonna find a way to screw it up in each sets. Maria in straight.

Depends which Nadia shows up... usual mentally absent one and it's a NID win for Maria... but if she turns up in a tough-as-nails "only 1 game for you, Kimmie!!!" mode, then I think Nadia in 3.
