This was NUTS. EVERYONE was clapping for Mel/Jack every time they won a point in the end of second and STB.

That shot by Kata to make it 7-6 was SICK though.

Mel was good, I didn't see Sock carrying the match. He has a great serve and is good from the base line, but a little iffy at the net, Mel was better there. She held serve well after the first set and hit some great shots throughout the match. She really had her feet moving, unlike her first round singles match, just a better performance from her. And I love how she was still running in place for a second or two after the match point  Once she got the feet moving, they wouldn't stop. They have a lot of fun out there, lots of laughs and smiles, makes them fun to watch.

Amazing atmosphere, so glad to have sat through it. Jack is so solid and I completely disagree with the above - Mel was average and her net play was average at best - until the super. Once in the super, Melanie really settled down and played great.

Yeah, I don't see how we're saying different things. You say "average" I say "solid". Look, if she was a awful as post #4 suggests, there wouldn't have been a super tiebreak to play. She would've been broken once or twice in the second set and that would've been it. Sock's serve was great, but I cringed every time he moved to the net. Sock manage to get wrong footed and fall down, what, twice? At the net, Mel's footwork was the better of the two.

But I know it's unbelievably controversial on TF to say that Oudin is anything other than the worst tennis player playing today...

I am a Melanie fan. You sound like you are rebelling so strongly against Melanie's bad image that you are overcompensating for her. You are also over-criticizing Jack. He defeated the #1 men's doubles team and is in the 3R in singles. He played very well. He fell down twice reaching for balls to take them away from Melanie. I mean, come on.

You are exaggerating how "solid" she was. I am not criticizing her - just stating facts. She was the weakest player out there yesterday and it showed but they managed the match well and did the little things to make it work. Jack's serve was clutch in the Super and Melanie stood her ground. She played an excellent Super but was scratchy in the first two sets.

Sigh, I'm not saying that she played excellent all the way through, or was the best player out there. The first set was pretty bad, they were both "scratchy" an got better as they played. But, the statement that she "did nothing" throughout the match is just as ridiculous as the idea that she was great all the way through. She made plenty of errors, but she was solid enough when she needed to be, and occasionally hit some great shots. So sure, I "rebel" against the idea she was worthless and did nothing, and the fact that you think "She played an excellent Super" tells me you don't agree with it either.

As for Sock, I'm not over criticizing, I thought he was great on serve and very good from the baseline, but I think he has room to improve at the net. He can get a little over excited. While yes, Mel made mistakes too, I think when she got into exchanges at the net I think she was a bit more purposeful, though she needed to be more dialed in to make them work. Her ideas were good, execution a bit lacking at times. She got better though as the match went on.
