:spit: Lino would have had a better chance on clay, she's one grand-slam too late here --

:spit: The commentators after Lino's triple-0 (aces, winners and some other stat).

SIDENOTE : Maria's serve though in the second set, not reassuring -- DFs out of nowhere in the net ?

Yeah I couldn't get that. It was Lino of all players - a guaranteed flop slice return back. She should have just spun the ball into court

Good match for Pova overall though.

30-17 W/UE
13/14 Net points won

NID really.
Moving very well and sharp off the ground, hardly had to try in the second.
Lost rhythm on her serve in her past couple of games but nothing too worrisome.

Onwards Maria. :cheer:

Serving 2006 style. Won't read too much into those random DFs towards the end as she was basically hitting a 1st serve instead of a 2nd given the placement. Beautiful movement running around the BH to hit those FH winners that won her this title in 2006.

The inevitable semi against Azarenka should be a cracker.

slightly worrying with those double faults in the 2nd set out of nowhere but otherwise good

This is why many people dislike the likes of Lino. Ugly game.

she was serving second like first, intolerant to finish the match

Really was wondering what that Lino girl was doing out there on the court all match long. Congrats Maria.

Honestly, unless she chooses to "tune" some element of her game, this kind of match serves no purpose for Maria later on.

They were in the net, these kinds of double-faults have to do with technique (she was retaking her toss sometimes) but this match was boring as hell, Maria including was bored -- but she was really going for her second serves, well, it's good she respects her opponent's returning skills I guess if they were somehow existent.

Since I was there for her R1, imagine how bad Sesil had to play to get breadsticked by LDL on this surface. It was 100000x worse.

People always say this, until she faces a good player, and then suddenly those two doubles in a row happen in a service game where Maria is down 15-30.

It seemed like something was distracting her when she went to toss the ball, one angle suggested the spider cam. It's clear when Maria's serve is off, today wasn't one of those days.

I doubt her serve woes towards the end of the 2nd set are much to worry about  I mean it wasn't like she literally couldn't get a serve in like on her worst serving days - she managed to produce a very good kick serve on the very last point (and she always says if her shoulder is giving her trouble then she actually finds a spun/kick serve hardest to produce, so this was probably more just a loss of concentration than anything physical).

I'm more worried that all those yummy 2nd serves of Dominguez Lino's that Maria devoured all night will cause a recurrence of her stomach problems.

These early round matches always make Maria look like she is in hot form, until she loses 63 64 to the first decent player she faces. Her relentless power hitting is too much for mugs like LDL but the serve is still shaky.

Rest Maria!

That was one of the most embarrassing performances from tennis player I have ever seen. I don't care if Jarmugla Garbagesova hits 238962698281 errors, DL did absolutely nothing the whole match.

Did she hit any winners?

Doesnt worry me when she lose concentration during a joke match like this. I was surprised she didnt have a bag of Sugarpova during changeovers tho.

Some of her failed return were more annoying.

Yup, I was FUMING very briefly when she threw away the chance for a double-bagel with 4 flubbed returns from 0-30 up. Maybe she didn't want the crowd to hate her :rolls:

It's less windy at night.

And she does really well at night matches. They always give her day matches during labor day weekend to fill the tv lineup-- and she's lost several times, to Pierce, Radwanska, Oudin, Pennetta, Wozniacki.
