This showed Olga is in great shape. She played 3 matches to qualify, and when she lost set 2 after 2 hours, it would have been easy to give up

Agreed, if there's something better than your fave winning is your fave winning by beating a player you dislike

Odd, because the USO match stats said that the match favored Irina the more that the match went on, but actually it didn't. Irina seemed quite winded at the end.

Olga does have really beautiful strokes if not entirely effective ones.

She's actually Lucic 2.0.

Olga is such a dumb tennis player  Her shot selection is at the club level and she doesn't know what angles are either. But a win is a win

Irina is the one American player I just can't stand, in terms of her play and her annoying attitude, and I love Olga, the original Washington Kastles savior, so this was great to see. So glad to be able to watch her again, even if she did hit 70 errors and 14 DF...

Why is Falconi trash? Only for c'mon's?

edificio
Aug 28th, 2012, 11:48 PM
I don't see how Falconi's any kind of failure. She's a young player. She lost the first set and was able to come back and win the second. She forced Puchkova into a third set. She is a battler. I feel the same about people calling McHale McFail, it is just too dismissive of a young player who is developing her game and her career.

She's actually Lucic 2.0.

is she? Lucic doesn't have such wide wings and she hits much flatter. Puchkova doesn't hit flat enough to finish the points immediately, while her top spin is not heavy enough to blow the opponents off. She is somewhere in the middle, though her strokes are really sweet and powerful.

They really are lovely especially that backhand.

Irina had to defend a 3R. Her ranking will be low, very low.

I don't get the Falconi hate, I'm not a fan, but she doesn't seem any more annoying than the other American scrubs. Although for some reason, I really dislike Stephens. Especially after seeing the video of her at RG, she seemed so up her self.

Reach R3 Olga :hearts:

Honestly have NO IDEA where Irina has gone wrong. In 2010 and 2011 she was the pillar of consistency. She was almost always beating players ranked below her and challenging those in the 50-100 range regularly, coming out with quite a few wins. Then, out of nowhere, in 2012, that grit and consistency that got her so far is totally gone. She also seemed to be missing the variety in her game that I think really helped her win matches. I rarely saw her slice her backhand, come to net, or hit a dropshot. It was kind of disappointing. Personally, I think this loss is going to put Irina at a place that is more truly indicative of what her play has been this season. I hope she can improve and get things back together at the end of the season or for 2013.

She's actually Lucic 2.0.If something she's Kournikova 2.0 her groundstrokes are carbon copy (specially the backhand and the double faults).

What? Puchkova is a former number 32, Falconi is a scrub. The fact that she says she's gonna be number 1 doesn't make her relevant :spit:

everything stems from running around like a prick with a flag after beating Pome last yr like she'd won a medal at the Olympics
