It is going to be Angie's 1st time to be in the main draw...Thanks to her good work to stay in top 100 this year! As 1st timer, I would love to see her to go all the way to 3rd round...Senior players like Ai & Tammy will reach at least 4th round...Cho should be in the main draw together with Asagoe...Remember, Akiko Morigami is a wild card receiver since she won Asian Championship after Asian Games Busan! Wynne and the rest most likely must go through qualification! :) :wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

So, how about 6 Asians in the main draw? Not bad...I do not know, I know that Iroda is Asian? I guess, since Uzbekistan is part of Asia now...So, correction 7 Asians in MD! I am just not used to athletes from former USSR...They look very European! Well, that's what makes Asia is so colorful, I guess!

Nov 29th, 2002, 07:09 AM
does shinobu asagoe get thru the direct main draw?

or Su-Wei?

Shine On Silver Moon
Nov 29th, 2002, 07:14 AM
I think, Asagoe will go directly to MD since she is now in top 100s...While Su Wei Hsieh must be going thru qualif first, she is now WTA 264!!!:) :D :wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

Nov 29th, 2002, 07:55 AM
Wynne will get in the main draw directly as she is inside #110 :)

While Su-Wei will not play here and there is no exactly time when she will come back to the tour...

Shine On Silver Moon
Nov 29th, 2002, 08:44 AM
Good to know Wynne will be in MD! So, more Asians in MD! What is happening with Hsieh? Is she still having problem with her father? What a waste! She is a great fighter!:D :wavey:

Nov 29th, 2002, 08:50 AM
Su-Wei has injury problem( for a long time already :( ), and her problem with her father will last very long time I think. There is no exactly schedule for her to play abroad right now so far I know.

Nov 29th, 2002, 09:33 AM
This thread has come earlier then i expected. but be shure i will report on all the asian players qualies and early rounds ...... as long as i an get out of work! ;)

Oh wow. What a nice thread to see!
Ai made it to QF here a few years ago beating Pierce, and lost to Capriati... Hopefully she'll do something big like that. Of course, doubles with Kim too!

Also, Saori is the next to be in MD "in case" someone withdraws...

Too bad Angie and Ai has to play in 1R... but at least either one could go to 2R, right? :)

Good luck to All!!

PS: Kimiko made GS's QF or better 6 times!!

Hi everybody!!

Yep, I'm an American- but as you can see from my Icon-
I'm a expat based in Asia. What's not to love about Asia?

Great- 8 Asians in the AO 2003. I'm really looking forward to
seeing how our crew will do. I liked what I have seen of
Akiko Morigami; she speaks excellent English too. :)

Does anybody know if they slowed down the surface this
year to keep home country favorite Hewitt's chances alive?
It was slower in 2002 than 2001 or 2000. Our Asian team
will do better on a SLOWER REBOUND ACE. What do you

Angie vs Ai is a bummer of a first rounder for us. One will go-
the will go on to the next round. DRAT's!!

Nice to see Cho make it to the AO 2003 this year. She was fun
to watch at the US OPEN.

talk to you on Monday- and we can discuss our results, and
playing form.

Jan 12th, 2003, 12:49 PM

wish she can perform well tomorrow,, plz Ai

Jan 13th, 2003, 10:44 AM
Not too bad today.

Ai, and Akiko made it to the next round.
Wynne, Shinobu, and Angie are out.

What really was positive today was that
AI vs ANGIE, and Wynne vs Patty were featured on tv.
How do you like that? Plus the entire center court match
of Paradorn.

A nice showing for Asia today.

I think it's cool how the AO 2003 website have
Korean, Japanese, and Chinese language links so
net friends can log on and see the site in their
respective character scripts. :)

howcome angie partner is kelly liggan..and not garbin??

Shine On Silver Moon
Jan 14th, 2003, 03:29 AM
Angie is not top double player as you know...So, Garbin prefers to have same level of partner and her choice is Silvia Farina Elia...While Angies was originally to partner with Clarisa Fernandez but since CF's dbl rank was still in 150s...so, they had to go through qualifying round...So, then Angie chose Kelly Liggan who is actually not much different ranking wise from CF but a little higher and with her choice, Angie can go directly to MD and face tough pair - Juju and Elena! :D :) :wavey:
