I kind of hope Agnieszka will lose in early rounds in USO series... I don't want her to reach #1 being slamless and after that Olympic Games disaster :tape:

I don't see any relation between her Olympic Games and the No.1 spot
I hope she will do something well, at least to be back at No.2. And then, reach at last the quarters at the US Open because this void is too strange considering her level on hard courts :)

Well, it wasn't good from Aga but it was still better than her previous match there. Stephens played well and had good shots in defense as well as in attack (good depth, good placement, good hitting), and Aga made too many unforced errors like in many of her last matches (which is quite unusual from her).

But at the same time, she switched from passive mode to aggressivity when she realised that Stephens was taking the advantage, and she was really going for her shots. The problems today were not the intentions I think, but the amount of UE's and her serve which wasn't really there.

Concerning Ula, the stats and the scoreline look quite good but sadly I couldn't watch the match :o

Serena, about the Radwanska sisters:

Williams was asked to compare and contrast the Radwanska sisters. "I think they're both great players, and great sisters. I absolutely love seeing another pair of sisters doing so well on the tour," Williams said. "Urszula has worked really hard, and me being a younger sister and Urszula being a younger sister too, I'm always looking for her to do well and I hope she does really well.

"Her game is great. What's best about her game is she's like her sister - she doesn't do anything badly. Those are always tough opponents to play."

Aga's post-match interview, after her loss yesterday:

Q. How is the shoulder?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: It's okay. Could be worse.

Q. How long has it been bothering you? We have seen it taped up.
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Oh, well, it's on and off since actually last year, to be honest. But here it's almost near the end of the season and I played a lot this year and changing the surface very often and the balls as well, so it's always not easy.

Q. You're the top seed in New Haven next week. Do you still plan to play there with your shoulder problems or are you thinking about resting more for the US Open?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, I think I'm just finish my match. I didn't really think about it.
But, well, I have a bye there for the first round so I still have a couple of days. I think I want to try to play there, yeah.

Q. Is your body feeling a lot of the matches? We talked to Angelique Kerber, and she was saying she was feeling a lot of the matches just in her body.
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Yeah, for sure especially that first couple of matches on hard court, it's always tough, especially when you're going from grass, which is very soft, and then suddenly it's a hard court and playing two big tournaments.
First round playing a player that you really have to play 100% and long, tough matches. For sure it's not easy.

Q. With respect to today's result, how do you feel about your game? Yesterday was a little bit of a struggle, as well. How do you feel about your game at this point in time?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, for sure those two weeks on hard court wasn't my best weeks, that's for sure.
Well, I was really trying to adjust for those couple of days on hard court, but it's so different. And my last tournament was in March and, you know, this is just huge difference from the grass.
So I think I just need some more matches, some more practice on hard court to play better.

Q. What is it that Li Na does well? You played her last week and you played her this week. What does she do well that could cause you problems? What were you trying to do to kind of change the match a little bit?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, I think she's really on fire. She's really playing great tennis right now, and pretty much -- I mean, I didn't play my best those two weeks for sure, so I couldn't really expect, you know, like huge results.
But she was just playing really well tennis. Last week and actually today, as well, even when she's playing two matches in one day, she's still playing great.
So I will try it, but she was just better.

Q. Your results at Olympics weren't what you wanted, but take away good memories from London?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, for sure the first London was much better for me. (Laughter.)
The second, not really. But of course carrying the flag for Poland, it was the great experience. For sure the Olympics are different tournament, so it's always great to be there and playing for the country.
Of course losing the match is always disappointing, especially when it's first round or second.
But, well, I'm just gonna try in four years to get a medal, and for now I can just have experience, you know, in those two Olympics that I just been there. I tried and I fight until the end, but hoping the third one will be better in more lucky.

Q. Did you stay in London for a while? Did you get to see some other events?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Not really. First thing the next day I just came here, of course, because of the surface and hard court. So I didn't really have chance to see others, unfortunately.

Q. Talk a little bit about you and Urszula talking about maybe an opponent coming up, a common opponent you've both played. How much dialogue do you have back and forth and talking strategy?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, pretty much every matches that we playing we saw. We keeping like watching each other.
But of course it's always easier when you can tell your sister, especially when you played someone couple weeks before and she's playing the same opponent, some strategy and some things that you think it's gonna work.
But most of the time you just have to go on court and see how it is, because every match is different. Sometimes some things are working; sometimes it's not.
But for sure it's always good to talk before the match, yeah.

Q. She's done very well recently. Is this what you expected? Are you a little surprised at what she's been doing?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: I'm not surprised. She's really working hard for that. She was struggling with her back for a long time before, so now she's fine. She's really feeling better and I think playing better, as well. I think she's more confident, as well.
I'm just happy for her that she's, you know, playing better and improving her ranking.

Q. The other day after her match with Urszula, Serena was talking about how nice it is to have another pair of sisters on the WTA and to see you guys in the locker room and the fact that she sort of identifies with the younger sister. Do you think about Venus and Serena as comparisons to you guys just on the sisters front?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Of course. I mean, there isn't that many siblings on tour, so it's always great to have a sister on tour. Especially that, you know, we traveling a lot, our season is 10 months, so it's always great to have sister on tour.
Actually, she was playing against Serena I was with Venus in the locker room and we were just, you know, watching together first set, so it was fun.
So, yeah.

Q. Are you going to play doubles or mixed at the US Open?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Oh, probably doubles. I don't think I'm going to play mixed. I think it's gonna be too much.

Q. With Urszula?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: I'm not sure yet.

Q. Li Na is working with Carlos Rodriguez. Did you know this, and what are your thoughts on that, the coaching?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, to be honest, I didn't know that. I saw him for the first time today.
Well, for sure he's a great coach. They might be really a good team, yeah.

Q. You're really close to No. 1. What do you have to do to get there?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, I think winning some more matches. That would help, don't you think? (Laughter.)

Q. Was today's win, Kerber over Serena, a big surprise for you?
AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, to be honest, not really. I think Serena also it was not really her best week. I think we could see that she was also struggling a bit on court and she didn't really play her best tennis this week.
She really tried out there, but I think, you know, Angie was more consistent today, for sure.

"I think maybe the change of surface and balls since coming from the Olympics was just too much, and I've played a lot this year as well.

"I'm going to go and have some rest now and hopefully be ready for Monday."

TENIS. Mimo urazów Radwańskie powinny zagrać w US Open

Agnieszka Radwańska szybko zakończyła swój udział w turnieju w New Haven.

US Open jest najważniejsze.

She should not be playing this tournament lest she wants to endanger her career long term. Joint injuries take a lot of time to heal and her shoulder has never been worse, even if she had it strapped in majority of her matches over the last 13 months. Against Na she was barely putting serves in play and against Govortsova it must have been even worse. If she goes out early, she'll get 3 weeks of rest which seems more appropriate but probably nowhere near enough.

I wasn't comparing anything, just provided a nonsensical response to nonsense.

Post-match interview with Aga:
Q. Obviously it went well today for first round.

AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Yes, actually I'm just very happy that I could give it my best in the first match. It's always difficult for the first match. Every week it's different surface, different balls. I was very happy I could play my first match on stadium.

Q. Were you afraid to see if the shoulder was going to be okay?

AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, you know, it's sometimes worse, but it feels better right now. That's about it.
Q. How difficult were the conditions today? It's very humid.

AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Yes, actually conditions this year are very tough, especially last few days was very humid. Yesterday was raining, and today humid again and windy. It wasn't that easy, but I think I'm kind of used to it. Especially on center we always struggling with the wind. I think I was prepared for that.

Q. How was your shoulder bothering you exactly in New Haven, and what have you done since? Have you taken any time off after that?

AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, it's always different when I'm playing matches or I'm just practicing and not pushing that much. Of course I had some rest before. I'm really taking care of it right now. It's really better.

Q. Coming in as a second seed, what are your expectations for this tournament? How would you define success here?

AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, it's always a bit harder because the people expecting you to play well and go far in the tournament. But just trying not to really think about pressure. Just doing my best. Not really have much point to defend from last year. At least this is the good thing. You know, I'm really trying to do better results than last few years.

Q. How much does your final appearance at Wimbledon inspire you for here?

AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, it's different, different surface. Well, I think I really have good results on hard courts, as well. If I could win Miami, why I cannot play well here, as well? I'm just gonna try to play my best here and we'll see.

Q. A word on your next opponent, Carla Suarez Navarro?

AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, I think we didn't play, well, for a long time against each other. It was long time ago. It's always another challenge. For sure she's playing different tennis than my first opponent. I think now I will have to be prepared for more spin.

Q. A lot of players talk about, especially when they first come to New York, the difficulty of the surroundings, the conditions, the distractions there are. What was that like when you first came here, and has it changed over the years?

AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA: Well, New York is New York. It's the traffic, the city, the conditions. Also the night sessions as well, playing till late and then another match next. But I think we all have to prepare for that. This is the tournament that every year is the same thing. We know that New York not gonna change for that, so of course more difficult. But I think I will handle it.

You don't? You have mugs like Isner or Roddick (2012) put on Arthur Ashe and good players like Berdych playing on Grand Stand. Organizers have to sell tickets and Ivanovic has more star power than Aga. Louis Armstrong is still bigger than Centre Court or Philip Chatrier so I'm sure if people want to see Aga, they'll have enough seats for that. That's nothing to be outraged about, really. (well unless you bought the ticket 2 days ago hoping they would put her on AA)

Isner and Roddick are local players, it's normal to have them playing in front of their crowd on the biggest courts. For the others, I know they have to sell tickets but they would never do that with the men.

What was the reason for Kirilenko/Arn to be put on a bigger court than the World No.2, "relegated" on 3rd court in terms of capacity? Non-sporting reason, as I said

But Grand Stand was not even full in her match against CSN, so I don't think any harm happened. They wouldn't put any of the top 4 in men's game on smaller courts, but they've been top 4 for so many years they have amazing star power, whereas Aga is a relatively new addition to the very top of the game. If she stays there for 2-3 more years, I don't think she'll be treated differently from Murray.
I think if you had told Aga a year ago that she would play her 1st and 3rd round matches on AA against some scrubs she would have felt happy and honored at such prospect.

Joins Serena and Vika as people that beat Ula and Aga in the same tournament

One of the worst losses in quite a while. Very disappointing, even if Vinci was playing great tennis.
Hopefully Aga will try have a good finish of the season in Asia and YEC.

And she needs to rethink her schedulling. It's not the first time she's injured at USO.

Aga :sobbing:

Vinci played her best, 100% and Aga only 10% :(

Agreed. This 'put on your superman cape when you play Aga' phenomenon is damn annoying.
So is MS getting a 'lucky arse' rain dely. Noisy cow!
