Kvitova going for way too much on her 2nd serves...she has all the power but no idea what to do with it, too funny :)

Great that Caroline got an early break. Petra has been pretty erratic so far but she is probably going to start playing better.

Who would have thought (not me) ... double break up! ... I am so impressed with the tactical work she's putting in. Obviously it's a losing battle to go head to head in pace with Kvitova, but taking away Kvitova's angel's is so clever. Same way to beat Li Na actually (not getting ahead of myself. Just saying).

As a fellow big breasted woman, they can be a pain in the ass. It's hard to find a decent bra that fits well and look cute. So I imagine Petra is having trouble finding a way to keep them babies still even with her money and Nike hookup. I don't think any straight man would truly understand this though. Obviously it is great that Caroline got this far but it is disappointing how much she went away in that second set. Petra was pretty awful in the first set and Caroline took advantage of that but once Petra started playing better there wasn't anything that Caroline could do to halt her momentum. If we see a third set tonight Caroline can't afford to fall behind early and give Petra a lead.

I think this is an example of Caro needing to expand her game. It seems like too often we've seen Caro's opponent playing well and she's seemed helpless. It's not just against the very top players either.

Jimmie48

The match does remind me of the Serena match in Madrid a bit. After playing a very good first set Caro's simply unable to respond to her opponent upping her game.

It's like she already was at her absolute maximum and she can't go any further.

With that being said I remain highly confident, not exactly in Caro getting better but in Kvitova being unable to keep this up. It won't take much to derail her and we all know she has absolutely no plan b. "If bashing dosen't work, bash harder".

marineblue
Aug 12th, 2012, 10:42 PM
Caroline let Petra loose and started to make errors herself. She has to be more consistent. Kvitova is very beatable when she is forced into long rallies but Caro just cannot afford to make mistakes or let Kvitova step in.

With that being said I remain highly confident, not exactly in Caro getting better but in Kvitova being unable to keep this up. It won't take much to derail her and we all know she has absolutely no plan b. "If bashing dosen't work, bash harder".

It's certainly a possibility, but I'd rather like Caroline to step up and win the match by outplaying her opponent.

Well to answer jimmie's question, it's a lot harder to find a good bra for bigger boobed women. It's like the fashion industry just don't give a fuck about our boobies. :( :p The only exception I've found is Victoria's Secret. They have some good bras in bigger sizes.

Well, I have to say that Kvitova's ..personality... is really ruined by those screams. If that happens elsewhere as well I actually pitty the 14-year old

She is outplaying her. With Kvitova the way to step it up means make her commit a lot of errors. In the first set Caro managed to do it very effectively,in the second she's pretty error-prone herself. I just hope that she won't decide to play a high-risk game in third.:scared:

I don't think that is completely true. Early in the second set Petra was hitting the ball much softer and not going for the lines. I think she knew she needed to calm down a little and not go for so much. When that started working she got comfortable and was able to play better and start going for more on her shots.

No offense taken ;)

Maybe I used a poor choice of words, due to my limitations in English?

What I mean by that is Caroline can win the match by extending the length of her strokes, playing near the lines. When she plays like that, she provokes errors on her opponents and prevents them from attacking hereffectively, thereby improving the effect of her defensive play. Also, she should improve her service. And she has to cut the unforced errors. Then, she will deserves to win, since she'll play better than her opponent. Rather than hoping the self-destruction of her opponent. That's what I mean by overplaying her opponent.

But it's not just Kvitova. That strategy/tactic leaves her vulnerable even to lower ranked players. If some random player outside the top 30 is playing relatively well aggressively, then what should Caro do? More or less hope they miss?

Aga is not a counter puncher IMO. The others are. Caroline is not a counter-puncher, she's a defensive baseliner. The counter-punchers are much more aggressives and they're taking chances with their shots. But a good and effective defensive player can put some pressure on her opponent as well. As I said, she has to play deep balls, close to the lines, she has to throw her opponent off-balance and to keep her in the run. No need to hit winners.

My personal opinion to your answer is : Yes. They are all the same mold of player type. Nuances, but fundamentally the same.

And I agree with what you're saying, Caroline could be 6-0, 5-0, 40-0 up against WTA #999 and it'll still not be a 'certain' win ... That's just the way she plays. .. Matches lost from MP ... Paszek, 2012, Safarova, 2012, Li Na, 2011 .. I am sure there's many more .. Serena Williams, 2009 ..

But I don't think is just 'hoping they miss'. When you play a .. Cibulkova, who's going 'do or die' on every shot. What is the opponent suppose to do? Either it's an UE or it's a W .. There is nothing in between. Statistics will be in the favour of the opponent. Speaking about. Did Caro have MP against Cibulkova too? (Wimbledon, 2011) ...

When you look at it now, Errani has 3,500 points in the Race. 1,000 points more than Caroline ... and even without the special blood doctor and rest of season being on HC, it's not obvious Caroline can win +1,000 more points than Errani during North American HC and the Asian swing ...

 I did close my Kvitova bet at 1.05, but I think you're wrong here. She might just break Caroline, as Caro has been serving really poorly in 2nd and 3rd set.
