The way she started off I thought it would be similar to the the first round affair, with Daniela taking advantage of the passiveness and short balls but that serving saved it all :worship:. It felt weird for me to be confident in her serving and be sure of her holding serve, as opposed to blind panic in her previous two matches. If she keeps it up it could be an interesting affair, though I think to hope for her to win the next one is one step too far.

I agree. Those stats from Serena against Zvonareva are just insane. BUT even if she gets her butt kicked tomorrow (?) this has been a great tournament for Caroline. She improved with each match and we're really starting to see the first results of her working with Mr Johansson. She serves better, the backhand is back on track and overall she has more pop on her shots. And it's a cliché, but against Serena she REALLY has nothing to lose, so just go for it Caroline, and whatever happens happens.

Yeah kind of funny way they place the matches, but court 1 is ok too. Wonder if they have anything against Serena - she doesn't deserve that, she's a brilliant player. Hope Caro can win this though.:)

I think it has less to do with Serena but more that they want to give the reigning #1 at least one CC match.

The only real disadvantage I can see if it rains tomorrow. Court size and crowd size, the experience should be very similar, it's not like she has been moved to #12

A match being delayed due to rain is better than playing Serena indoors.

Yep, forehand aside Woz is playing pretty good so far. It'll be interesting to see how these results translate to the hard courts. She's not back to top 5 level yet but what has impressed me so far has been her mental strength in the matches thus far. She has struggled over the past year with these tight 3 setters as well as numerous 0-30/30-0 and 0-40/40-0 leads and would come out at the bottom when the games got tight. Granted she only played Keothavong and Wickmayer but no doubt these hard fought wins helped build her confidence back on, which was something she desperately needed.

I just hope she's able to carry this confidence forward and have a great USO series, but even then I'm still looking at it as one match at a time :)

I watched the match live but I couldn't write until now.
The most promising part of Caro's game was definitely her serving. 72% 1st serves in and I think we were in the double digits with the number of times Dani failed to make her ROS. Caro fired some nice BH winners, too and she generally had good depth on her baseline shots from both wings. But I must also say I was somewhat disappointed by Dani's display today. Sure she was under a lot of pressure - Caro was particularly good at playing her to the body and expose her shoddy footwork - but she still made a number of unnecessary mistakes. Her game is up and down and today it was mostly down.

Serena next who has looked pretty scary lately. Caro is clearly the underdog, but she has aquitted herself pretty well against Serena in their two previous matches this year, so if Serena's serving is just a little wobbly tomorrow, Caro's not without chances. And clever of Caro to win her first straight sets match of the tournament when she has her first consecutive days matches now.

Fact: It was the first time this year Caro managed to win 3 matches in a row on a non-HC surface!
Fact2: At the last Olympics Caro beat Dani in straight sets and then lost in the next round to the later champion. According to the bookies, history is gonna repeat itself.

I'd say she played OK, her main problem being her serve. Just couldn't find it today. That said it was a bit windy at times. So that didn't help her. Once there was a rally going on, I think they were even. She was hitting deep and either Serena hit a good winner or Caro forced an error.
I'm not too mad about this loss because Serena's serve on grass is very difficult to deal with and the UE Caro made were mostly because she was going for it, and she had to. Some days things click but today they didn't. Shame because I really wanted to see her play Vika, I'd like to see how she would deal against her. Victoria's serve is quite a mess at times.

I'm more concerned with the weather. Remember how much rain delay there was when Caro won Montreal two years ago. They ended up playing SF and F on the same day in order to finish the tournament in time for NH.
And the weather forecast says "chance of thunder-showers" for Thursday afternoon.

Edit: To illustrate my point, the current matches have just been suspended because of rain.

The "funny" part about it: there has been no rain in Montreal for the whole summer. We await the players to have a week of deluge

On the other hand, Caroline seems less affected than other players by those interruptions caused by the rain.

Caro's match moved to court 9.. so if Lepchenko can finish it by winning one more game, then she'll be up next.

90 minutes? Even if Lepchenko finishes quickly now that's hardly enough for a full match, unless Caro plays very effective today.

No live streaming so it's hard to tell just from scoreboard. Neither have served very well: 57% 1st serves Caro, 48% Kerbens. 4 DFs each. Caro was broken twice in her first four serve games, but since 5-5 she has faced neither BP or GP.
