She just have to stop braiding her hair and leave it in a ponytail :)

C. W. Fields

Caro wins 1 & 3. Most of the way she played a good match, I only have two complaints. 1) She changed her mind about going to the net a handful of times, retreated and got caught midcourt. 2) Despite hitting so many good winners during the match, when it came to winning the final point she reverted to type and got passive.

Edit: Caro's not on the schedule tomorrow, she'll play Friday.

Got there in the end, but it would - to me at least - have felt more solid, if Caro had been able to serve out the match. Now it ended sort of as the damp squid, despite being a good 2nd set.

WD Caro, :) Saw it on the EU livestream on my laptop from 3-1 in the 2nd set. She was playing really well until serving for the match at 5-2. Sam Smith was impressed with her.

But I didn't like that game she was serving for the match. Nothing in the serves and not getting her 1st serves in - and that when they were weak anyway. Ula saved 4 MPs and to be honest - Caro looked like losing every point on her serve in that game unless it was gifted to her. Still - she got the break to win the match. I was relieved she didn't have to serve it out again.

I dont expect her to finish this year in her best 2010 form. Just win as many matches as she can.
If she's going to get into her best form, the AO is the place, then thru IW is where she can add points. Certainly very little to defend on clay & grass.
It all depends on whether she can close out matches. Thats been a problem for over a year

Caro played as well as she had to. If she's getting Serena-like and saving it for when it's really necessary, fine. Domi next, which is a bit more of a test. I'm still thinking about the backhand before the out one against Kerber. Just a few more inches wideer ...

How far will Caro have too go in order too get back into the top 10 ?

Caroline can't reach the 10th spot before YEC,as Moscau only will give her 345 points (her 17th best 125 has to be off first) and she's 400 behind Bartoli. Maybe she can get the rest in Sofia. Sofia gives 375 points to the winner + either 25 points for a lost game or 35 for a win in the round robin. Still 125 points have to be off before she'll add any in Sofia - I'm not quite sure about this because it can be the same as in YEC that every point counts - haven't looked that up - but maybe one of you know. Everything gets a little bit complicated if she doesn't win Moscau but it'll still be possible if she gets to the semi in Moscau which gives her a plus of 75 points. :)

Caro is 400 points behind Bartoli in the Race, she's only 265 points behind her in the rankings.

Yeah, YEC count as a 17th result. Surely it will be same with mini-YEC? *asking not terribly convinced*

Yeah, YEC count as a 17th result. Surely it will be same with mini-YEC? *asking not terribly convinced*

The YEC counts as a slam but the 17th result will replace that IF you take part in it that is. The Sofia tournament - here the 17th result will take place if the result there is lesser than 125 points. And the race and rankings WILL be the same when we start the YEC so Caroline is 400 points behind Bartoli because Caroline can't defend her YEC points. Of course if she wins the next match in Moscau you can already turn down the difference with 75 points and if she wins the tournament there will only be a difference of 55 points and that means that just by taking part in Sofia she'll return to top 10 as every lost mach gives 25 points - not that I expect that of course. So let's hope she wins Moscau.

Hoergren

Er du sikker på den udregning?

But and there is a big IF she wins Moscow...

100% sure and it goes like this:

Bartoli ranking points this week 3850
minus last years points -120
plus her 17th result 120
Gives 3850

minus last years YEC -230
plus her 17th result 120
Gives 3740

Caroline r points this week 3585
+ 17th result (didn't play 2011) 125 - this can be better if she wins next match and on.
Gives 3710

Minus last years YEC -370
no 17th no participating gives 3340

Difference 3740-3340=400 which Caroline can't catch as she only can get max 345 in Moscau. If she wins against Cibulkova she'll add 75 points. 195 getting to the final and finally 345 by winning. Then she only has to participate in Sofia and she'll be #10 no matter how it goes:) - well not quite true as Bartoli CAN be asked to play even if she's the second alternate - but not likely - Caro knows when she goes to Sofia.

On court .. Please allow me to make a prediction : Cibulkova will hit every single ball as hard as she possibly can and go for outright winners at every single ball. Standing 3 meters behind the baseline, will serve as no objection.

Some balls will land spectacularly on the line for a big applaud and 'wooooooow'. Other balls will land well out and be taken down into the UE column.

;)

May the best player Caroline win!

Break to deuce, 3-2. But it's a bit worrisome that Caro has only hit one winner so far.

I for one am not worried about that statistic with this match-up. Cibulkova will swing wild at every single ball. What we have seen illustrated clearly already. Key is to be solid .. Of course take the chance when it's there, but solid .. and the wild swinging ballbasher will bash herself out of the match.

We'll see if Cibulkova can keep it up to win 2 sets. I see it as a low probability play.

Hold to 15, 6-2. Caro hit her first BHIO winner and first ace. Caro has landed 83% of her 1st serves. The reason for this high percentage is that she's going for kick more than speed. She knows that fast serves against Domi just means a risk of them being returned even faster. But high bouncing serves are hard for the short Slovak to handle.

6-2, 6-7(1). Sadly this match so far reminds me much of their Wimbledon meet. There Caro also served really well in set 1 but from set 2 and on, Domi moved farther back on her return and the extra time worked to her advantage. Though her hit point was far behind the baseline, she hit so hard it didn't matter, and Caro couldn't angle her serve enough to take advantage of Domi's position.

I think it is fair to describe that second set as a rollercoaster. Caroline looked down and out at 1-3 then came back and served for the set at 5-4 before being throttled in the tiebreak 7-1. It was great that she came back and had chances to win but her problems are still there, she has much more trouble closing out matches now than she once did.

She can still win this in three but these long matches do not help her chances of hoisting the trophy.

Caro holds to deuce: 6-2, 6-7(1), 6-1. If we just remove the second set, it was a repeat of their last match in NH. ;)
For much of the match, Caro's play was a good mix of solid, clever and sharp. But it's plain bad to be broken 4 times like Caro was in set 2, especially when she wasn't broken at all the other two sets. The two times she was serving for the match at 5-4 and 6-5 she was even broken to love! Caro must learn to steady her serving for a whole match without having these dips.

Caro didn't turtle in the 2nd set, but she got a bit careful. That's an improvement. I didn't watch too much of the 2nd set because the weather's absolutely gorgeous, and I really have to take advantage of it. I just can't sit on my arse and follow 4 tennis tournaments live.

I had a feeling Domi would fade in the 3rd. She turned it right up in the 2nd and Caro turned it just a bit down, and they still played almost even. And I loved Caro slapping those forehand winners of the serve. That was just great to see. She's gaining more confidence in her forehand now, and not running around to her backhand as often.

The match had my stamp of approval, not so much because she won, but because she's starting to do the things she's been working so hard on in practise.
