My god...just watching the last couple of games of her match against Chan (recorded on ES). So ridiculous to see that JJ always played a slice on her fh when she had to make two or three steps to that side. Aweful.:o Her forehand was always a weak spot, but come on, never saw her fh sooo weak. And what is with that stupid swing? At the end she also moved pretty bad and looked tired, too. As I already wrote on GM.....just another pretty bad result. Sad.

Just noticed there's a lot of derision against JJ.
Huge amount on GM, and some here.
Feel that another "mistake" from her and she'll be lynched!

It's just a game.
To me of interest will be to see how it progresses further.
I am convinced that one characteristics, (part of the "nature") of all living things is to turn on the "weakening" member of that group. Seen it many times before - and it's playing out here as well.

Let's put things in perspective.
Right now we are watching the BIGGEST crisis of Jelena as a tennis player. 2006 does not compare, since she was an "unknown".

Self mocking (when frustrated) is ok with me, but derision is a low thing. I think that loyal fans should keep that in mind. Now is THE moment when she needs the support. OK, it may be a meaningless concept, when it's only expressed on a tennis forum, yet ... even miniscule it means something.

Yes, she needs support :D But maybe she should also be confronted with the fact that her game is not good these days :hysteric:

Whatever her problem is - it's not the lack of support from her fans. She has so many fans all over the world, there's JJ Fan Club, people who traveled to Slovakia to support her and they were louder than the home crowd. It's a true that fans overreact and we are all drama queens here, but JJ's forum is not different than the others.

Jelena, absolutely disgusting :help:

Choked 2 MPs in 2nd set away. One at 7-6 and one at 8-7 in Tiebreak :o

Break Points Won in 3rd set: Chan 2 of 3, Jelena 1 of 8 :tape:

Jelena is only a shadow of her former self. Pathetic loss, pathetic performance. She has become mentally very weak. I was shocked how bad she played. A disgrace. Where is her super footwork from the past? Hard to believe this girl once was #1 in the world and in a Grand Slam final. So many stupid UEs. Horrible mistakes on return. Forehand is worse than ever. Backhand not among the best on WTA Tour anymore. Her serve was broken 8 times. And how passive does she play?! I really have no words for her anymore...

I burned some time today.
Wanted to figure out where JJ was "actually" relative to other players.
Numbers told me that her level of play was between 20 & 25 in rankings.

I worked this out by looking at last 1/2 year results, and giving weightings to opponent's rankings.
(Thus if a player wins a match against a lower ranked player they are awarded their own ranking points, but if they lose, then they get lower ranking of the opponent, yet if they beat a higher ranked player they get the higher opponents rankings for that particular game.)
System is not perfect of course, but it does give me a relative idea of the "form" over last 6 months.

Here's what my numbers said:
(the lower the numbers the better the ranking).

1. azarenka - 2.7
2. sharapova - 3
3. Radwanska = 6.1
4. Wozniacki - 8
5. Venus Williams - 11.7
6. Kvitova - 12
7. Serena Williams - 12
8. Petkovic - 13.6

9. Li-Na - 14
10. Clijsters - 15.9
11. Kerber - 18
12. Stosur - 20
13. Ivanovic - 21
14. Kuznetzova - 24.6
15. Bartoli - 25
16. Cibulkova = 26

17. Safarova - 27.2
18. Lisicki - 28
19. Schiavone - 30.8
20. Jankovic -31.3
21. Kirilenko - 31.4
22. McHale - 32.4
23. Errani - 34.2
24. Petrova - 36.5

Zvonareva - 39
Panetta - 47

It's interesting to me that Venus basically had very good results all year but for the Wimbeldton.
Zvonareva is way down, because of bad losses to a number of very low ranked players.
Errani's current ranking of 10 is a fluke, because before Rolland Garros she lost to many lower ranked players.

Kuznetzova lost matches but to reasonably ranked players, so her ranking should be much higher than is now - which means that she is not in a slump.

Kerber is a genuine top-10 player.
Schiavone & Jelena are going through same dramas in regard to form loss, i.e. top 10 players dropping to 20-25 range.

Also that Azarenka & Sharapova are "real" 1 &2, in that they virtually did not lose to any lower ranked players (say below 15)

I think that the numbers tell me that JJ is currently 20-25 standard. It surprises me since I thought that she was much lower.
Incredibly Zvonareva's and Panettas forms are even worse!!

So all is not lost!
If her dismal form at the moment says that it's that of a standard 20-25 ranked player, then there's only one way .... and that's UP.
(p.s. I mean "up" ,, after the Olympic Games)
Cheers. ;)

about draw
http://2012.itftennis.com/olympics/news/articles/london-2012-draw-to-be-held-on-26-july.aspx
Olympic draw to be held on 26 July
The ITF has announced that the draw for the Olympic Tennis Event will be held at The All England Club, Wimbledon on Thursday 26 July at 11am.
The opening ceremony for the Olympics is taking place the next day on 27 July, before the tennis event gets under way on 28 July. After nine days of competition, the tennis event concludes on 5 August. The action continues in other sports until the closing ceremony brings an end to the Games on 12 August.
In total, 44 countries are being represented at The All England Club. There will be a 64-draw for the men’s and women’s singles, with 16 players seeded in each event, and a 32-draw for the men’s and women’s doubles, with eight teams seeded in each event.
The mixed doubles, which is making a return to the Olympics as a medal sport for the first time since Paris 1924, will have a 16-draw, with four teams seeded. The draw for the mixed doubles will take place during the tennis event on 31 July.
Entry into the mixed doubles will be based on each pair’s combined ranking. Players can use either their singles or doubles ranking to qualify, whichever is highest, and a maximum of two teams per country are permitted. There are 12 Direct Acceptances into the mixed doubles, with the remaining four spots being filled by ITF Places.
If there are two players or doubles teams from the same country in any event, they will be drawn in opposite halves of the draw. If there are three or more players from the same country in the singles event, they will be drawn in different quarters of the draw.
Seeds for the draw will be based on the latest ATP and WTA world rankings of Monday 23 July.

Honestly, JJ playing doubles is basically stealing the spot of another team. She needs to be CONSTANTLY playing doubles if she wants it to help her improve her singles game. Her game simply does not work for doubles... she likes to play cute drop volleys and half volleys at net, standing at the service line - which simply don't work when you have a partner.

Aleksandra was truly woeful today, but I don't know if it's her normal level. Then again, even Hlavackova's own junkballs seemed to blow her away, it looks as if even an average serve could knock her back into the wall. :sobbing: She's just too damn small, and it's not just her height but her complete lack of physical power. :[ Cibulkova can get away with her height because she's muscular and strong, but Aleksandra is like a short Radwanska... What you say makes sense. The numbers that I gave for last 6 months effort don't show her slump. So I did a recalculation, but starting from Indian Wells, that's last 4-5 months period, from the beginning of her slump. This is what the numbers tell me are the "forms" of top 32 players....over last 4-5 months.

1. Sharapova (2.7)
2. Azarenka (2.9)
3. Radwanska (6.1)
4. Serena (9.8)
5. Wozniacki (11.3)
6. Venus (11.7)

22. Kirilenko (31.1)
23. McHale (33.6)
24. Zheng (34)

25. Pavlychenkova (34)
26. Cetkovska (34)
27. Lisicki (36.18)
28. Vinci (36.18)
29. Peng (39)
30 jankovic (43.9)
31. Georges (46.4)
32. Panetta (54.8)
33. Zvonareva (58.8)

So what it says is that on her current form she's roughly 30 ranked,
Top clutch players are as above 1-10.
Players that can surprise are 11-20. Ivanovic is one of these.
20 down seem to be players out of luck at the moment or in bad form.
And JJ is smack in the middle of these ones.

So to be realistic "now", means to expect her to be most likely beaten by any of the top 20 players on the above list, she might have 50/50 chance for players ranked 20-40, and obviously better chances when playing against the lower ranked players.

Hope I've brought some order to the disorder.

ps. I promise, I will not do this again.
Cheers

What did u do different in the second recalculation?

I just considered matches from Indian Wells onwards.
Just used the same scoring as before, and divided the total score with the total number of matches (obviously now a reduced # of matches.).

I am quite pleased with how it all comes out.
For example top 8 players in this recalculated list are genuinely top 8 players that everyone feels really belong there.

It surprisingly tells me for example that Kuznetzova is not really out of form at all. So watch out for her in the next 4 months or so.

justine worked her ass off to do that... her body was very strong and muscular. alex looks like she will break anytime soon. but she is still very young. also justine had a champion mentality. a lot of factors made up for her lack of height. we'll see what krunic has in the future.

Exactly. Short players must work very hard to make big results. Henin, Cibulkova, Errani, Ferrer, Deavydenko, Schiavone etc. They are all hard workers. It's amazing what Henin did with her serve. She was able to hit some almost 200 kmh fast serves. That's unbelievable. I remember that she said she was watching Roddick's matches to learn how to serve well.

I agree, Henin is in the league of her own, I doubt there'll ever be another player with that kind of physical disadvantages to achieve such level and results.
As for the others, it's like Cajka said: their built is completely different to Krunic's. They are all (except Schiavone who is sinewy) very sturdy and can whack the ball really hard. Krunic's doubles performances show that she has great net skills which 4/5 of the current WTA can only dream of (top players included), and a good on-court brain. In that sense she reminds me of Radwanska, whose physique is also unfavourable so she had to develop finer skills. But it appears Krunic can't use any of it in singles since she's so physically weak, she can't hit a good enough (or rather strong enough) serve or approach shot in order to approach the net. Moonballing is all she can do in order to keep the ball deep.
Tennis has become a game for big and strong girls.

Why does Jelena missing?

Jelena Jankovic was supposed to arrive Wednesday in London after a holiday in Dubai, but has not appeared on the evening of the Serbian flag-raising ceremony in the Olympic Village.

Jankovic's arrival was scheduled for early afternoon hours, when, despite going into the house at Wimbledon (which is usually located relatively close to Heathrow airport), I had enough time to get up to the Olympic Village.

And unfortunately she has not appeared in the Olympic Village, and was not even called and explained her absence, at least until such time as we announce this.

Yeah, I saw her two times this year. She played Radwanska in Australian Open and lost in 3 sets to Venus in Roland Garros. She impressed me a lot with her attitude and game and well, she's very enjoyable to watch.

I saw her only against Aga, it looked like she had a potential. I wasn't surprised when she won a set against Venus.

Sigh... I wish I could be more exciting about the OG, but with Jelena's 99% odds of going out in R1, the feeling that all Serbian national teams will do equally poorly, and the fact that there's no Nadal so those two :weirdo:s Novak and Andy have to stop Federer, I feel far more depressed than excited...

The olympics committee have made jeca's draw like an impossible battlefield with landmines in every round!

First round, obviously serena is going to win, but lets just say jeca wins....
round 2- barthel
round 3- schiavione or zvonereva
qf- wozniaki
sf-azarenka, kerber, or venus

she has lost to all of them in her last matches

on top of that, she is crippled in terms of tennis.......its as though God did everything in his power to make sure jeca doesnt win olympics :(

Here lies JJ, former tennis player, ex (slamles) number one, Grand slam finalist, winner of 15% of her overal finals, Fed cup mashine, and ultimate drama quin and fashion guru.
Shi was loved, she smiled alot, but she was also afraid, very affraid, of all tennis players that had more than one name and surname, or that had slanted eyes, or that were ranked below 100 on WTA rankings, or that simply weren't worth the effort of playing good with...
She will be burried on the lawns of Wimbledon, the place where she won her sole Grand Slam, in mix with some guy that has a famous brother..
The burrial will be attended by alot of people and colleagues and the speach ill be given by no other than one of her Bff of the tour, Serena W.
Lets see what she has to say:

Yes, that makes a lot of sense. There's no doubt that a group of people (fellow players, coaches, mom etc) cheering her on always motivates her to play better, which actually is always the case in Fed Cup.
