Would've been cool if we sent Kairi or Grammatikopoulou or Tritou to see how they would do against these good players but Matoula isn't bad :). Vasileiou on the other hand :o

Why exactly is the U16 list stronger than the U18 list?

Omg indeed, Soylu-Ferro and Sorribes-Ducu  Brutal. Sorribes is probably the favourite for the title?

Veronika gets Konjuh in 3R. :fiery:

Really interested to see if Kalinina can keep up her good form.

Why exactly is the U16 list stronger than the U18 list?

Players who are 17-18 and really good, don´t normally care about (non slam) juniors anymore.

Or rather Konjuh or Kudermetova?

Or rather Konjuh or Kudermetova?

It's very difficult to know, Ana and Veronica are doing really well on juniors, and Sara didn't play juniors at all, but she won a 10k itf, and this is played on clay wich play on her favour

You use the :oh: emoticon sooo often. It is such a misleading emoticon, as no one knows if you are joking or being serious...

I highly doubt Jelena will make the final. Ana/Siniakova with Siniakova winning would be expected, but I would like Ana to win :) If Anett was was 8 days younger, she could be here

Most of the time I'm not serious

I highly doubt Jelena will make the final. Ana/Siniakova with Siniakova winning would be expected, but I would like Ana to win :) If Anett was was 8 days younger, she could be here

Could be, but would she? Why should she? U18 is the one granting points for the ITF junior ranking after all
I doubt too that Jelena would make the final, that's why I used that emoticon, 'cause I don't expect her to go that deep, but I'd like to see the two girls facing each other for the trophy :p
It's between Konjuh, Siniakova, Kulichkova and Sorribes Tormo IMO. I don't see Kudermetova winning it, but I wouldn't be upset at all if she would

Anett would not come, as she is not even playing 18s, but it would mean that she would get an extra year of juniors :) They need to change the rule like it is in Australian local Junior Tournaments where it is up until your birthday :)

Oh, what the hell :o
It sucks when you win more points than the opponent (I guess that's the case in the Konjuh-Kudermetova match) and still lose the match. Oh, well, at least Veronika has a good shot to the semi-final :D
The other 3 matches are really really open to any result.

Am i the only one that is not that surprised?
I know that Ana is having a great year, but Venonika is not doing bad either, and she used to be at the same level than Ana or even slightly higher (she was clearly better at Tarbes last year, she even defeated Abanda). So i expected a tight match, yes, Ana was the favourite, but only a little bit in my opinion

Yeah, not that big surprise for me either. They both have been playing good recently and now one of them had to win.
As the scoreline showed it really was a tight match and it could have gone either way.

I am surprised Ana lost, but not that surprised as her Tennis Europe career wasn't amazing and I thought it might be a mental thing :)
Also, she is overranked in Juniors IMO, but this result is still shocking

BTW BlueTrees, Veronika is a VERY pretty girl, but that has to be the ugliest photo of her in existance, no offence

Because it is a waste of time unless you are going to be Top 10, which she won't be unless se can play on hard

I am still disappointed in Siniakova though :(
She should have won this :(

Yeah, but with the very limited number of pro tournaments you can play as an 15 yo, isn't it better to play juniors then playing nothing at all?

Playing Juniors isn't always a good idea, as shown by the Williams Sisters and Sharapova :)
It tires out children too much :)

Meelis
Jul 29th, 2012, 11:45 AM
Spanish girls very rarely bother to waste their time with ITF juniors. There is a reason why there is currently nobody inside the top 150 rankings. Muguruza, Torro and Arruabarrena were not in top 150 neither ;)

Yeah, but with the very limited number of pro tournaments you can play as an 15 yo, isn't it better to play juniors then playing nothing at all?

15 year old can play ten pro events (and if no ranking points earned it will not count), add couple of juniors and national events and it is enough.

spiceboy

Spain must be the only country in the world who doesn't encourage its players to play juniors. As opposite to most countries, these players still live a "normal life" and attend classes at school, rather than being homeschooled. Obviously if you start playing juniors all year around you can't go to school. Young Spaniards tend to play pro from a very early age (Sara won early this year a $10K) but just a few of them during the year and almost always in Spain/Portugal.

After 18, most of the players travel the ITF but many of them are studying a university degree online.
