I think it was pretty even, Nuria was clearly the better player overall. Schiavone very up and down, she's either great or crap, Flavia was the force in her team. Mariajo started slow but picked it up in the end. Great play to save the match point from the Spaniards.

treufreund
Jul 5th, 2012, 12:40 PM
One of the things that hurts Kerber is that her shots seem less penetrating. She always tries "shape" the ball or add some loop to it as opposed to cutting it off at it apex and hitting down it like Radwanska does. It requires better timing and talent to cut the ball off at the apex and a more aggressive mindset though.

Patrick345
Jul 5th, 2012, 12:40 PM
I hate this so much. Radwanska was nervous as hell going down 1-3, and then Kerber played a lot of loose shots to get Radwanska back to 3-3. It has been downhill ever since. I just don´t get why players cannot understand this concept against a player like Radwanska. You do not give them any easy points regardless of the score. They thrive on your loose shots.

Ugh my God Kerber.

The scariest part is that Radwanska´s disguised serve and her well placed flat short groundstokes going to give Serena a lot of trouble. That´s what scares me most. Radwanska could actually win the whole thing.

Btw Kerber´s big weakness is her return on the backhand side. That is Safarova-esque, if you can get it out of her direct hitting zone.

It's so nice to see two players who move up and try to do something with the ball at its apex. So many of these "power players" let the point begin over and over by backtracking and letting the ball fall and then try to hit the crap out of it. I like seeing these players stepping up and hitting it off its apex.

They are both quite similar. Good movement, touch and variety, but both are underpowered and have a mediocre serve. No chance against peak Serena, Maria, Petra and Azarenka. Good for them they avoided these four on the road to the semis.

Kerber plays so idiotic on the short balls. She can slice, so why doesn´t she? A well placed ball wins every rally baed on where Radwanska is on the court. Grass actually really helps Radwanska big time. I think she´d lose this on hardcourt or clay.

Nice hitting by Aga. She is climbing on top of those loopy "pushy" forehands off Kerber's and hitting through the court. That flat ball and that low slice is troubling Kerber.

I don't like that play when Aga has the floater and hits that forehand back at Kerber. Aga should just keep hitting that forehand inside out instead of trying to outfox her by going behind her (unless it's painfully obvious that she is leaning towards the open court)
