I guess doubling up on doubles tomorrow would be too much risk for Serena to want to take.

Of course. If Rena wins Petra, she'll withdraw with an injury.:oh:

I don't think Kiri can play today in doubles before the Singles match is finished...

They've got to do something.

They're still in the 2nd round

Kirilenko needs to finish her singles and then doubles can be played. So play needs to get started soon for them to finish and then the one set of doubles can finish under the roof in case of more rain.

Courts being prepared now. Kirilenko needs to lose quick and then doubles can finish later on Centre.

It says canceled, no retirement. Most likely doubling up tomorrow. Early to finish this and then later R3.

They're SO far behind. Has this ever happened before?

Uranium

^Meelis to the rescue.

The women's doubles draw is actually fine BESIDES this one match. 5 teams are in QFs already. 2 R3's are tomorrow plus the R3 that contains the winner of this match. The issue is this one match is holding up play. It just severely hurts the chances of this one team that gets the win. So yeah, Kirilenko/Petrova and Venus/Serena are very behind the others. But hopefully they level it up by the end of tomorrow and then each team has to play every day until the end.

There was that one year that singles matches were still in the 3r/4r on Tuesday right? 07 was it?

I know Serena wants to be nice to Venus but she should withdraw. She really shouldn't be playing 1 1/2 matches the day before her semifinal, at least I wouldn't want to.

She isn't gonna sit around London all day you know.
If you don't know... Winning the Doubles is one of Serena's goal this year.

Would be foolish from Serena not to withdraw from doubles at this point.

It will be like she is playing a 3 sets match. The match against Maria is only a set. If they win then the other will be a normal game, which they should try and wrap it up in 2 sets. I think she can handle it, these pros are used to playing everyday. This will just be her warm up for the semis.

It's not about being nice it's about fulfilling the commitment. Venus won a U.S Open with Serena on a really bad knee and played singles and doubles on the same day several times in that event. Serena won't bail on Venus unless she is injured. Serena and Venus have played singles and doubles both back to back to back days in the recent past and in heat and been fine, this isn't going to be too much for Serena. Plus this is grass and the points aren't as taxing and the matches aren't as long. If the Williams play like they are capable of they should barely spend a little over 2 hours on court tomorrow. If that's going to cost Serena in singles she's not in good shape. But she is in good condition so I doubt it will cost her. :)

If it was Venus we were talking about, sure she would probably be better off withdrawing before the semi given her current condition. But it's Serena! Doubles will only help her at this point.

Its not the conditioning thats the problem.

If she plays doubles, she will have no time to prepare (practice the areas which need fine tuning, practice according to her opponent's strength and weaknesses, make sasha play like Azarenka etc.) for her SF match. Preparing for the match doesnt mean just resting and going out on court and hitting a few balls.

I hope Serena withdraws.

My interpretation of the post I was responding to was that the poster felt it would be too much of a physical/mental strain on Serena to play 1 and a half matches before her semifinal, so that's what my answer was about. It's not even a guarantee that she will play 1 and a half matches today anyway. :scared: I think she will be fine against Vika, I mean Sascha can scream and wear Capri pants under a dress :sobbing: if he wants to (sorry I just had to get that joke in :oh:) to help Serena, but I think she's more than ready to face her with or without that. Serena has only pulled out of Doubles when injured in recent years. I don't think Venus would be terribly upset if she did pulled out of doubles to preserve her chances in singles, but Serena just won't do that. It's just not her mentality.

Williams/williams d. Petrova/Kirilenko 36 63 97

3rd set:
The russians lead 4-1!
Venus was bad throughout, so were the russians.
But Serena was on fire the whole set.
It was all her who won that set,
hard to see that Venus made so many errors.

As for the russian: typical choke, Nadia will never learn.
Bad match from her again.

At 6-6,
Kirilenko and Petrova asked the umpire if there's a tiebreak.

That was the definition of carrying your partner in a tennis match. Vee served great though minus her 4 DFs in the first service game. Russians were idiots for not hitting at Venus every single shot.

I thought I saw a good match.
Sisters were 2 points away from being ousted in a match..atleast twice...
Would have been 6-4 had they gotten atleast 1/3 in the one game earlier.

Yes. Because Serena has forgotten how Azarenka plays like.

Venus pulled it together the last couple of games and finally got some returns in:lol:
She should be much sharper later on I hope.
Nice job from Serena taking on the "big sis" role and keeping Vee focused:awww:

Serena will be fine. Grass suits her game.

As for doubles, she probably wants the double title as much as the single title. They have won so many Wimbledons together: it will be really sentimental if they were to win again, given Venus' health.

Hoping that Venus can sharpen up and help little sis out some in the next match though.
