There was some local rain in Denmark yesterday. It was pretty intense a few places, like thunderstorm with lots of ligthning. Luckily, most of the country, including Odense, was relatively spared. There were some rain delays though. The weather forecasts are looking good today.

This image shows 31,228 lightning strikes yesterday:

Doubles final

(3) Simone Alipieva (DEN)/Ulrikke Høyer (DEN) d. (1) Martine Ditlev (DEN)/Julie Noe (DEN) 7-5 7-5

Tough tournament for Martine

Simone is an enormously skilled doubles player. Aged 14, she now has two ITF titles in 2012, which is one more than all other Danish girls combined (Ulrikke Høyer obviously being the other Danish title winner) :help:

Btw, as some of you perhaps have noticed, I created a thread about Simone Alipieva with a proper introduction, links, etc.

I know she's no Konjuh or Ostapenko atm, and perhaps it is too early for her own thread, but she got a lot of attention after playing against Chakvetadze at the Copenhagen WTA - also from Balkan or Bulgarian fans - which seems to justify her own thread. And I've had some discussions about her via PM and in other junior threads (about her Bulgarian origin, for instance), so I thought I might as well clear things up once and for all. Thread located here (http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=460989).

I've read it a few weeks ago. The description is impressive, but she still has to prove what she's capable of on the international stage.

Are the finals scheduled for Sunday, or are they just slow at updating the results at ITF?

I agree completely. She hasn't showed much at ITF or Grade 1 Tennis Europe (U16). She's still lacking something for that. Her game used to be rather unusual but also vey succesful for her when she was younger. None of her 10-12 year old opponents had any experience playing against a serve-and-yolley player (or whatever we should call her style). It used to be a winning formula for Simone but not so much anymore. I believe her game is in a transitional phase, while her team is trying to add and develop some other aspects of it.

It's impossible to predict the outcome but I don't expect Simone to peak within the next copuple of years. It's a long-term project.

One thing that is really impressive about her, is her focus once she reaches the final stages of a tournament. She has won 12 of 15 Tennis Europe finals 2011-2012 (including doubles).

Still no result from the final? Semis were played Friday....
The weather has been absolutely terrible in Denmark during the weekend, so maybe the finals (boy's and girl's singles) were postponed at some stage. But they have been played according to the Swedish Tennis Association. They wrote a brief news story (http://iof3.idrottonline.se/SvenskaTennisforbundet/Nyheter/Nyheter/SvenskajuniorframgangariDanmark/) yesterday that Catrine Landström won the girl's title. They didn't post the score though.

Strange that the results aren't posted yet :help:

But it should be possible to contact the tournament club on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/TennisClubOdense), if anyone has a fb account. They posted one or two news re the tournament there (like images of the wet courts), so asking seems natural. Shoudn't be neccessary though :o
