Thank god clay is over :sobbing: BIG points to defend here however... Shes clinging onto her #8 ranking thank god, I thought she lost it. This could be very important for defending her points at Wimbledon. Hope she just lives up to her seedings, that is, SF at Eastbourne and QF at Wimbledon.

Cant waaaait for the hardcourts tournaments afterwards :inlove: Fuck the Olympics :oh: Loads of points to be gained in Stanford, Carlsbad and Montreal. (Montreal is her *good* Canadian tournament, plus apparently a lot of top players wont play it as its right after the Olympics)

News from France and some very surprising. Marion was so affected after her loss vs Julia Goerges in Roma that she was decided to find a radical solution. And between Roma and RG, a new coach was called to find some solutions. And this coach is a fft coach, former Cedric Pioline coach when he reached USO finals : Pierre Cherret. This new coaching was just for end of clay season.

And this fft support was criticized by Julien Benneteau on twitter.

she's 0-2 against wozniak but grass is quite easily aleks's worst surface so there is no reason for her not to finally get a win over her

hopefully cetovska takes out vulture queen and marion should be able to make the final.

Cirstea will be tough in the first round so we should not underestimate her. Marion should go through but if she isn't in top form Cirstea could just hit her off the court.

Good start despite the DFs. A second title here looks indeed very possible with all the seeds falling one after another! Wozniak is a serious hurdle obviously, it will be a tougher challenge than Cirstea.
So glad the clay court season is over for her, hope she gets herself into position for Istanbul very soon!

2 + 2 again and she played brilliantly, about as well as she can. 24 winners and 8 errors. Safarova next, she has a terrific H2H against her but she did have to save a MP against her last year so..

Don't worry too much about it Ferg, the wind picked up horrendously in the 2nd set, tamira's junk started to work alot better, if she fails at wimbledon then its time to panic.

I have high hopes for wimbledon, i'll honestly be disappointed with anything less than a QF/SF.

Ferg
Jun 22nd, 2012, 03:11 PM
It was just so disheartening to watch though. I left after she went 40-0 up at the start of the third after breaking, but her play in set 2 was atrocious. it was enough to get the job done against a flaky Paszek in set one, but once Paszek picked it up slightly Marion just started pushing, not going for anything at all. I know it was windy and that the conditions were extremely tough and that wind is a great leveller, but at the end of the day Marion should just simply not be losing to someone who had won 2 matches all year before this tournament, especially considering Marions' supposed grass calibre.

We'll see at WImbledon however as you say, Im probably just overreacting because Im so mad. This was such a great chance to make up vital ground on the top 8 in the race though. But if she loses before R4, then we can panic.

Marion has a good draw at wimbledon so heads up:). there's always another tournament, and Marion is a consistent performer having been in the top20 since 2006, so she will keep fighting;). let's just keep supporting her through the wins and losses:wavey: in regards to the injury, she will be fine for wimbledon, trust me:lol:

Marion needs to fix that serve and be more aggressive:tape: this time last year her serve was nothing short of amazing and today she could barely get a first serve in:help: when Marion serves badly she loses all rhythm, and she needs rhythm in her game, and then on top of that she had to play Lucic at her best which is unlucky i guess:sad: Marion will keep fighting obviously but before the serve is fixed she will have no confidence in her groundstrokes. very messy match today but as soon as Marion drops out of the top10 and has no points to defend, that's hopefully when she can relax and play better tennis. i'm still hopeful that she can have a good few months after this...:D

Very depressing, isn't it?

She's never going to be consistent, is she? Even on her best surface. And in her late twenties, you do start wondering how many more good runs she has in her. At this point, every second round bombing out of a slam really hurts.

To be a bit more optimistic, she was helped to her career best ranking by reaching the semis of Roland Garros last year. So her total lack of consistency includes randomly winning when nobody expects it. Here's hoping, lol.

Marionated
Jun 28th, 2012, 05:07 PM
Couldn't watch but looking at the stats, Lucic played a great match with 33-11. What can you do against that? I had a bad feeling about this one when I saw her final set stats againt Panova. Grass is the one surface her games works very well on. She barely lost to eventual QF Cibulkova last year.

As for Marion, well the second serve in this loss and her French Open loss has just been beyond :help: Double digits in double faults both times. Don't really understand it given how well she served in Eastbourne but whatever.

2nd, 3rd, 2nd, 2nd round are her current slams stats. Really needs to do something big at the US. At least she shouldn't show up exhausted there like she has the last two years.

Thankfully I'm not as emotionally invested in tennis as I used to be

If you look back at her career from 2004 you see that actually this is not an unusual thing. Every year she plays like 26 tournaments and loses early at 20 of them. It is just that she has had some good weeks here and there that have allowed her to stay in the top 20. This gives the illusion of someone who is consistant but actually her results are consistant only in that she loses early at most tournaments.
