View Full Version : Radwanska will win Wimbledon

She is ready to win a major, and I see a similarity between her situation and Azarenka's last year. Azarenka has her best slam result ever and people expected big things. Then she runs into Serena in the 3rd round, and we knew it wasnt going to happen for her there. Then wins the next slam after. Radwanska has the best six month stretch of her career, now gets Venus in the second round. Even if she wins, it's collateral damage and will catch up her later(unless Venus retires with an injury). Radwanska is a former eastbourne winner, and because Wimbledon messes with the seeds, this works in her favor. Why? Because I would expect Venus to get a seed even if she isn't in the top 32, and Probably Clijsters also, so she avoids them, and they knock out others if healthy. And for those worried about her second round loss last year, it was to her personal kryptonite Cetkovska, and there is only a 1 in 127 chance they meet.

Wimbledon is one place where the big hitters reign supreme... in other words, Aga has no chance (in my opinion)

Radwanska has improved DRAMATICALLY though nobody can deny this. Agnieszka's first serve has improved, her confidence is high and she's won six WTA titles since August 2011. A lot of people thought Radwanska would not beat Maria in Miami BUT she did in straight sets! She's proven a lot this year she's getting better. I feel Agnieszka just needs to breakthrough in the slams she's very talented. I would love to see Radwanska win a slam.

She doesn't have a chance in hell of winning Wimbeldon. Ago will retire slamless and u can bump this thread when she retires and it happens. She has a nice game but she aint no Hingis.

NEVER say NEVER Dawn Marie, many people thought that Li Na would not win a grand slam either ditto for Samantha Stosur.

One thing Agnieszka has in her favour she is VERY MENTALLY TOUGH she is a fighter and she's proven that.

People call her a pusher but that's inaccurate she CAN be aggressive when she needs to be.

Also, Agnieszka knows the geometry of the court she volleys well too. Agnieszka is a lot smarter than the other

WTA players that just only have power.

People didn't think Radwanska would beat Sharapova in Miami in the final but she dispatched her in straight sets.

I think people are underestimating Agnieszka because her game is different than the other top players.

Agnieszka has proven a woman doesn't need to be an amazon, have big muscles, or have a giant serve to reach number three

in the world.

Also, the Miami Masters I believe was a huge breakthrough for Agnieszka because nobody thought she could win it but she did.

She's playing consistent tennis for over the past several months.

oh yeah i guess

Would Hingis win a slam today? I doubt.

Radwańska lacks power because she has a very light frame -- I like the fact she is not a muscular amazon, that she doesn't moan like a giraffe giving birth. For me, two more reasons to appreciate her game. How refreshing to see somebody playing with such intelligence, craftiness, fully within herself and in harmony with her body, with such a soft touch — instead of murdering the ball. Of course, I wish her to win the slams or whatever tournaments can make her happy, but this is not of utmost importance to me: I am not a loser who sees fulfilment of his mediocre life in his fave winning this or that slam (or two dozens of slams for that matter), or getting 20 million dollars in endorsements. I just like watching elegant tennis. As long as she plays such tennis I'll contiunue to watch her playing. If she occasionally gets blown off the court by a roaring Valkyria, that's not a problem for me: it is only to be expected that a David usually gets smashed by a Goliath. Nevertheless I will always prefer David over any Goliath. For the same reason I don't care about convincing anybody that Radwańska can win a slam.

These are the same reasons I like Radwanska's tennis. I saw her win the junior event at Wimbledon in 2005, and during her quarter-final, spoke to her father and told him I saw her as a potential Top 10 player of the future. It's the way she READS the game, something I believe is instinctive in the very best players (the same quality I saw in the young Hingis). Admitedly, it's going to be tough for her to beat Serena, but paradoxically, I think she has a better chance against Williams than she would have had against Azarenka. Obviously, if Serena bangs down another 24 aces, Aga will have little chance in the final. But would anyone else in the top 100 have a prayer if she serves like that? I'd say no (Vika couldn't cope with it). If, however, Aga can get into some rallies, start moving Serena around, those booming forehands of Miss Williams can have a tendency to go long / wide as she tries to shorten the points and starts to over-press. Aga has the skill to drop-shot Serena, and the brains to know she'll likely get up to the ball, and be stood right where Serena hits it to, because her tennis-brain anticipates where it's going to go. (This happened a few times against Kerber). If she can do stuff like that, and get inside Serena's head, she might have a chance.

It would be good for the sport of tennis if a tennis PLAYER, not a grunting or shrieking SLUGGER, were to win a Slam. Who would have thought Schiavone would win a Slam in an era of heavy-hitters? It's that slim chance of an outsider winning that makes the final interesting !
