Or do you hold back b/c you're ashamed (you don't want the people you're dining with to think of you negatively)?

On Wed., we had dinner with my gf's aunt and uncle and her uncle annoyed me b/c a few bites in, he says "I'm full. The American portions are so huge." While that's true (about our food portions), her uncle is not exactly skinny. He's at least 250 lbs (113 kilos) and he didn't get that way on beer alone.

Depends how the food suits my taste. Or else, I'll just eat like 1/2 of my usual portion when I eat out with non-family people.:oh:

Yes. I eat as much as I want (can afford). But I am American. :oh:

Yes. And if I can't finish it all, there's the doggie-bag. ;)

maybe he didn't like it? However, if it's food that someone paid for, he liked it and he just wanted to be vain then that's rude but what can you do.

I don't think I would go out to buffet with people I don't know or are meeting for the first time. If it's just a regular restaurant I would eat normally.

Now when my family and I go to a buffet place then I don't hold back but I also don't eat until I feel bad. I did that once (or twice at Thanksgiving :p) and you feel awful for sooooooo long.

if you go to buffet, dont drink a lot of water, it will make you worse

When I got out to dinner with my parents or my best friends, yes. But when I go out with just friends, absolutely not

Never really thought of this. But then I hardly eat on dates and stuff, at least that way I can't really embarrass myself.

Oh he liked it but he was pretending to be full to save face (like I said, he's 250 lbs) and that pissed me off. I don't care what size you are and it's not even a money issue (it was our treat) but going out to a dinner IMO should be a positive social experience. It should not mean that you get the salad WHEN YOU REALLY WANT THE FRIES. If you're dieting, say that you are but Uncle Kevin was not eating the way he really likes to eat. Even the waitress looked @ him all "sideways" when she checked on us and he said "the American portions are too big". She, too, noticed he wasn't manorexic by any stretch of the imagination. And it's not anything personal against Uncle Kevin. My sister does this shit, too, and she's actually worse: she orders like she's a Size 0 then notices everyone else eating normally and ends up getting a lot sides (like 2 or 3 diff carbs).

What i hate is ppl who go out and eat fast food or a lot of fried stuff and feel they always have to comment on how unhealthy it is like it will make them feel better about themselves. If you are so "health conscious", just order only salad. Fking cant stand people who cant enjoy themselves.

I eat what I can and then I usually take home what's left over in a doggie bag  Like a steak or something, not a side dish like mashed potatoes. I'm not THAT cheap :p

I feel like this is an issue only people who are ashamed of their weight worry about

Ashamed of their weight? What does that mean exactly? Someone who thinks they are too skinny would then not eat in front of people?

ohh well in that case you are still probably wrong! :p

I don't think whether someone is actually overweight or not plays a part in the what goes on in some people's minds about their appearance. I mean anorexics think they are fat. I just think it's a sort of social phobia for some people it may effect overweight people more but I dont know. I would guess it would effect more women than men but I could be wrong about that.

Why would people eat differently? I mean, if I'm out at a nice place on a date, I'll make sure I eat more "politely" or whatever, but I don't change how much I eat, and its not like I shovel food in on a regular basis.

I have no hangups about eating in public, with friends, on a date or at a party.

Normally, Indian parties usually have a buffet.

I usually eat less if it's a vegetarian buffet, because I'm a hard core non-vegetarian.

The only exception is south Indian veg food. I go at it like there's no tomorrow.:oh:
