What do you think has been the best Tier I final ever played? Any match which was worthy of being a Grand Slam final?

Here are some other options apart from the ones in the poll:

1991 Berlin - STEFFI GRAF (GER) def. Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario (ESP) 6-3 4-6 7-6

1992 Montreal - ARANTXA SANCHEZ-VICARIO (ESP) def. Monica Seles (YUG) 6-3 4-6 6-4

1998 Rome - MARTINA HINGIS (SUI) def. Venus Williams (USA) 6-3 2-6 6-3

1999 Miami - VENUS WILLIAMS (USA) def. Serena Williams (USA) 6-1 4-6 6-4

2001 Toronto - SERENA WILLIAMS (USA) def. Jennifer Capriati (USA) 6-1 6-7(7) 6-3

2002 Tokyo - MARTINA HINGIS (SUI) def. Monica Seles (USA) 7-6(6) 4-6 6-3

2005 Tokyo - MARIA SHARAPOVA (RUS) def. Lindsay Davenport (USA) 6-1 3-6 7-6(5)

2006 Berlin - NADIA PETROVA (RUS) def. Justine Henin (BEL) 4-6 6-4 7-5

2007 Berlin - ANA IVANOVIC (SRB) def. Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS) 3-6 6-4 7-6(4)

2010 Cincinnati - KIM CLIJSTERS (BEL) def. Maria Sharapova (RUS) 2-6 7-6(4) 6-2

2012 Rome - MARIA SHARAPOVA (RUS) def. Na Li (CHN) 6-4 4-6 7-6(5)

PS: Note that I picked these matches mostly by score, not by quality of play (I havent seen all of them!).

1999 Indian Wells

The passing of the torch from one GOAT to the next.

2007 Miami was pretty incredible too.

A lot of these matches, despite being close, were pretty poor in quality.

Of all the ones listed I'd probably pick the Graf/Serena Indian Wells match.

Last great final was Petko and Aggie.

Graf-Serena 99 Indian Wells was a great match. It's the only one of that list you have there that stood out for me as being an intense/high quality match. Serena was playing brilliantly while Graf was fighting her injuries at the time to win the title.

So, what is the overall consense then??

1999 Indian Wells or 2006 Berlin?

2000 Zurich and 2004 Rome are pretty high in the poll too.

I love how some people voted for every match in the poll :haha:

I don't remember most of them in terms of quality, but the Lindsay/Hingis Zurich match was a firecracker. Pretty high quality.

Zurich 2000 F ended in a ton of errors from both. Davenport had completed faded and Legend hobbled over the finish line.

Irrelevant, as Legend won, and everything up until midway through the 3rd was epic. :ras:

Not the best but Sharapova def. Clijsters in the 2006 San Diego final was a great match.

Serena and Justine matches throughout the 2002 clay court season were fun to watch.
