View Full Version : Sara Errani top 10?

I never noticed this girl and suddenly find she won 3 titles this year and is ranked 9 in the race ranking:eek::eek:

Anyone loves her?

Can she be top 10 this year?I hope she will:awww:

As slams keep being played other players will eventually pass her. I'll be shocked if she qualifies for the YEC. I only saw her play once this year in the AO QF against Petra, and she ain't making another GS QF this year given how tight the top 8 is shaping up to be for the rest of the year.

Is she kinda of a doubles specialist?

She needs to start winning matches against top 10 players first, at least occasionally. 0-27 is a terrible record.

Never. She has to beat some top 10 players in GS or Premier events to have a shot. She can be a solid top 20 player though if she keeps winning International events.

No, you can't get to top 10 only by winning a few MM titles. It would be more shameful for WTA than Caro's reign was.

Depends on your definition of "a few". You can get to the top 10 by winning MMs. You cannot stay there this way, though ...

Yeah, mathematically it's possible. But I meant she doesn't deserve to be top 10 only by winning MMs :p

Maybe up to #15 but I don't see her going further. The top players usually destroy her.

Barring an unexpected improvement, I imagine Errani will end up replicating her doubles partner Vinci's acheivements, and reach the lower part of the Top 20 in singles. She's just the new MM queen. Her improvement this year is very impressive, but she's not a top player and probably never will be. Together though, they could win big titles in doubles

She is good but her game is not very top-10 material. Like everyone says she will be in top 20 for sure. And that serve :help: gotta go. From what I see Errani got a very good backhand and a decent forehand. This year her mentality has been stronger but still the horrendous results against top ten players :tape: she needs to believe she can beat them first I think.

Best of luck to her anyway :yeah:

Maybe we should wait for RG first?... I think she has some chances to good run in Paris. Of course I don't see her reaching SF, but with good draw (really good draw) she is able to reach another QF.

cescsas
May 21st, 2012, 10:21 PM
It would be nice if she could get there but I don't think she has the game also her serve is way below what's required. Great tenacity and Schiavone like mentality maybe one day she can get up there but not yet.

+ 4 apparently. She lost to Kvitova twice this year at AO and FedCup. So it's total 0-28 record for poor Sara:sad:
TOP-10 is just too much for her. Still she could be a legitimate TOP-20 player:)

she's gotten her ranking up, hopefully she can get a win against a top player or a few in the future.

she's been having her best year so far, it's really nice to see.

Top 10 though, possibly point-based wise, but not likely. Like everyone else is saying she seems more of a top 20 player.

May 22nd, 2012, 08:12 AM
She's going to have to start pulling out some big wins, otherwise she's going to be seen as overranked. She has the potential though, she's taken sets off peak Dinara, 2009 Serena, Stosur and Kim but 0-24 record against Top 10 players is pretty bad for someone who has 3 WTA titles this year.

I think even these results might flatter her a bit. Safina struggled the whole American HC season that year, Serena was a bit rusty after getting a R1 bye but coasted in sets 2 and 3, Sam was also rusty, having hardly played all summer due to an arm injury, and beat Sara easily the following week in NY, and Kim was probably hampered by an injury (she retired in her next round against Bartoli).

She has nothing to hurt the top players with. If she wants to take her ranking up to the maximum she should still to MM tournaments, which she smartly does. She can get to around #16-17 like Vinci if she's very consistent and keeps on winning them, but not much higher.

Who knows
After reading almost all the posts in this topic, I must say that I agree with some people, partially agree with other people, and completely disagree with other people.
If Sara Errani will reach the Top 10 one day, I will simply think that she deserved it, having earned more points than most of the players in Women's Tennis, with just nine girls having done something better than her. So, if she would ever make it, what would be the problem with that?
About her game, I don't want to say a lot: Sara has improved a lot during these years, and has made herself a player with a great variety, and no more a player who wins counting on her opponent's errors. Sadly for her, her height doesn't allow her to have a better serve, but the improvements on this shot, too, showed how much she is fighting: Errani now uses a lof of spin, and tries to create a good angle in order to not start the rally as "the one who must run more". She will never serve grenades, I hope people will understand it soon, because she simply cannot.
And she is one of the biggest fighters I have ever seen. She wants to win every point, and she never gives up. Surely, a lot of players are more talented than her, but how many players fight like she does?

This year has been fabolous for her. What must she do now? Collect a win against a player in the Top 10?
It will come, soon or later. People don't expect that she will do it in the same way they thought she could have ever done what she has done this year.

So, to answer the question of this topic: hard to say. If she improves day by day like she is doing, it will be no more just a dream for her.

She won the 3rd round match against Ivanovic :) She will be inside the top 20 soon and I think she has a decent shot for QF if she keeps this up, although she has horrible record against top 10 players (but it may not be Radwanska to meet her next round :oh:). It will be nice to see what she can do outside the clays.

Just read the whole thread, hilarious. Every step of the way, at every turn, people were for the most part predicting her downfall or a return to baseline level. But time and time again, Errani proved them wrong  Not even a fan, but you have to give her some credit, despite what everyone thinks she's clearly been doing something right...It'll be interesting to see how long she can keep it up.
