View Full Version : Radwanska and Wozniacki will surprise everyone and reach at least the QF of RG

RG has been kind towards first timers - Stosur, Schiavone and Li all had their GS breakthroughs there with the latter two winning their first slams there

Radwanska and Wozniacki, despite their early exits in Rome, will surprise everyone and bounce back strongly at RG - expect at least a QF appearance. If they're on the opposite sides of the draw, there's a very good chance they will be the finalists

for cowoz, maybe in 2025 when azarenka, sharapova, kvitova, swilliams, stosur, li na, schiavonne, clijsters or others like zvonareva, kerber, petkovic, bartoli, hantuchova, georges etc retire but by that time, cowoz already become garcia punchingbag

I'm sure their fans hope so but not going deep in Rome would seem to diminish their chances. Rome is a pretty good indicator of who is in form to go deep at RG.

I know this is a joke thread, but I actually expect them both to lose before the 2nd week. They suck on clay.

Perhaps.

I am not saying I THINK she will. What I am saying is, she is in the draw she have a chance. She only need to defeat 7 players to take the title. Just like all the other 127 players in the line-up. It's very open this year, just like last year was.

Like, HOW MANY people say Sam Stosur would defeating Serena in USO?

Its big surprise for me, I expected of Aga to play doubles together with sister Ulla, and of Caro to play singles only

Rome and RG seem to be quite different these days, my understanding is that in Rome clay is laid out directly on soil, whereas in Paris there is concrete underneath clay. Also, last year RG used very light balls which further sped up the game there.

Li reached SF in Madrid and Rome last year, later beat Madrid and Rome champions to win RG. It'll be interesting to see how things turn out in two weeks.

I don't think it's as open as last year. So far all the premier finals/semifinals have been decided or won by the same 3 or 4 players this year. it would be a surprise for anyone but Azarenka, Maria, Serena, and to a lesser extent Aga, Kvitova or Li to win RG. (jmo)

Do you mean Wozniacki?

If so, she won't play all those players. That cannot happen, due to rankings, withdrawals, impondrables, so on.

Yes because every slam was won by the seed N%1:rolleyes: Caro is millions times better than her countrywoman Aga so she'll be fine.

If Radwanska and Wozniacki have favorable draws and face a top player having an off day, then it could happen.

But as of right now based on current form, Serena and Maria are probably the top favorites in one group, followed by Azarenka and Li Na in another group. I would put Petra in the middle in between both groups. She would move up or down depending on how well her injury heals. And obviously if Li Na were to beat Sharapova in the final tommorrow, then the standings would change.

that happened when #1 was some1 name CAROLINE WOZNIACKI

when #1 either SERENA WILLIAMS or JUSTINE HENIN, either STEFFI GRAFF or MONICA SELES, most of GS won by #1 seed/rank

I think it's become quite clear Petra is a non-factor this clay season.

TennisAddict84
May 19th, 2012, 04:39 PM
If she's able to serve at full capacity, she is definitely a factor. Hell, even at 20%, injured and not being able to serve, she almost beat Kerber yesterday. I was very encouraged by some of her point construction yesterday. Petra has way too much game to not do well at RG if she's fully healthy.

It's really her reoccurring health problems that have attributed to her inconsistency this season.

At least QF?
I would say at most. A QF is obviously not impossible for either of them especially with an easy draw. They could make the QFs actually, but I can't see them any deeper unless they're very lucky. This is a Grand Slam. And it's on clay which isn't a good surface for them.
A 1st week exit would be unsurprising and fitting given who we're talking about.

If they're on the opposite sides of the draw, there's a very good chance they will be the finalists
This is just funny

On second thoughts, this is Roland Garros and the draw could collapse in a random way and have another surprise winner.

why would puffwanska or pushniacki reaching the quarters/semis be a surprise especially if they draw bartoli in their quarter? what would be a surprise is if they win a slam.

the winner will be one of serena vika petra na or sam.

winning slams is different than vulturing your way to the top. petra has the game to win slams. caro aga don't.

Winning a slam is a general term. We are talking specifically about RG happening very soon. I would say that Petra's performance not only this clay season, but the entire 2012 doesn't give an indication that she can win anything short term. I agree with the assessment for Aga and Caro based on their clay performance, but Petra's performance at the moment is even behind these two. Having said that anything can happen for any of them, but unless you have some secret information there is no way one could make that judgement objectively.

Rome is a pretty good indicator of who is in form to go deep at RG.

4-time RG champion henin has never won rome and 6-time RG champion graf has never made it to SF since the tournament became Tier I in 1990. In fact, none of the champions of Roma has won RG since 2003. In 2010, Schiavone lost in the second round in Rome, but managed to win the title in RG.

Wozniacki I wouldn't actually be THAT surprised about - she's quietly transformed herself into a bigtime player who steps it up for the big tournaments / against big players while half-arsing the rest of the time :spit:

Radwanska is vulnerable to any top16 aggressive player on clay, so I don't see her making it unless her draw falls apart. Hopefully she gets Cetkovska in the 3rd round anyway.

Anyone in the current top 8 will beat Wozniacki if they play. Maybe against Bartoli or Radwanska she would have a small chance of an upset in the 4th round, but that is it. Her only real chance of better than 4th round is the higher seed in her section to lose before playing her. As for Radwanska she has a higher seed and more ability to beat top players now, so has a chance at quarters or better.
