Win your tournament now.

Maria looking to be one of the 5 players to win Rome 2 or more times and the first player since 2008 to win Rome back to back -- she's really breaking some records in 2012.

This is also her 4th. F in 5 tournaments. 6th. of the year already and were not yet even done. :hysteric: The top 5-6 players have shared all the big titles in 2012 between themselves. Only fail was Maria in GDF Suez.

too slow? She's one of the fastest, if not the fastest player in the top 10. She probably just wasn't on her game today and maybe a bit tired from the three setter the night before.

That was a pretty good match. Now she's faced power in Venus and counterpunching from Kerber. That should be good preparation to play Li who does both pretty well.

Her serve seems pretty solid, and she's starting to pick on returns, whih will be crucial tomorrow because sometimes Li can serve huge.

Maria will need a high level to beat Li here. I think the match might still be on the messy side, but nothing like in Miami.

Good Tournament from Kerber, though the stats from todays match do look terrible. She should withdraw from Brussels and give herself a break before RG. She proved this week that she can go far, even on clay.

Didn't already post this in the Live score thread?

What records records is she breaking?

It's more about personal records

- Made the F of AO, IW and Miami (5th in history). First player since 2008 on the verge of defending a title won in Rome.

- Second year ever in her career she's reached 5 F or more. She has an on going streak of QF's in a row, 7 in Premiers and 8 overall. Actually though it's not better than between 2004 and 2007 with 22 straight QF in Tier I/II events (Beijing 2004, Tokyo 2007) and 7 straight SF (Beijing 2004, Miami 2005). She's 2 F away from breaking her record of most F reached in Tier I/II events in a single a year (2006 ; 6), 2 away from her most won (2006 ; 4).

EDIT : Add what Monzonator said too I forgot.

If by"some" you are talking about Vikapower, it really shouldn't count.

Maria, long maligned as a "cow on ice" on clay, has worked long and hard to improve on this surface. And she has greatly improved, whether or not she wins RG.

What do you mean thrashed? Peak Wozniacki showed up in that 4th round with Maria at the USO, so I'll give you that, even though Maria's serving and forehand were absolutely useless that summer.

Do you know how many 'red' claycourt titles Kuznetsova, Schiavone, Li, and Ivanovic have? None of these players have won any BIG titles on European red clay except...The French Open.

Winning on red clay, especially these last few years, have 'little' bearing on French Open chances. This is not Justine Henin we are talking about. If this were the case, Safina would have won it in 2008 and 2009, Stosur would have won it in 2010, and Sharapova would have won it in 2011 as they had the best European clay season leading up into the French Open.

But, the players I mentioned in my first paragraph may not do that well in the red clay tournaments leading up to the Roland Garros, but they all have something Maria Sharapova DOESN'T have.

A French Open singles title.

I don't think I'm a moron..YOU are the moron for falsely acusing people of stuff and when shown with prove that you were wrong, all you can say: I'm no moderator or TF police. What a joke.
You are obsessed, you can't go 1 post without Serena or bringing her into unrelated threads, and I've called you out numerous times for this type of trolling. Just because other people do it doesn't mean you weren't in the wrong to begin with. :weirdo:

You're usually not even reacting to "masha fans" you're just dragging her in all on your own. I never said other people don't do this, but you cannot stop. :help:

You've never proven me wrong about YOU, you've only shown that there are troll posters who are as annoying and dumb as you....

All I am saying is that I truly believe that winning on these European clay surfaces aren't always going to be a great indicator that you're the No.1 favorite to win the French Open especially these last few years.

I mean, Serena Williams also went 10 years without winning a single US Open series tournament yet she's still gonna be a US Open favorite. And, Kuzzy and Ivanovic, Li, Schiavone certainly and never have burned up the claycourt season going into the French Open.

The thread was about SERENA..since as you say everything I post is about SERENA, how the heck could I have derailed it?!
You don't call out the lunatics, but you sure as hell is busy monitoring every damn post I made about Serena.

Whatever man. It's cool.

You ARE a lunatic, and I'm not going to stop calling out your trolling in unrelated threads. LIKE THIS ONE.

I missed this match because it was NID for me, (Kerber played 3setter versus a player in a wheelchair in QF and was not a contender against Masha on clay, i've told it in Kvitova-Kerber thread)

Now i am really disappointed that we will not see Masha -Serena match in the final, because Masha despite her H2H with Rena would have been a favorite in this match according to the game through the tournament.... And as usual Serena decided to escape from the match on the inconvenient for her surface

Yay, another final! :cheer: Please, do win the title.

If we do 100% agree that her trip to Paris was strictly shopping-related then yeah just one.

Which other event did she not get to the final of? If we apply your theory then she reached the finals in all her events this year :p

I'd rather a GS title (which Serena has) than MM titles (which Maria has) on the red clay :oh: and I'm sure most players would prefer that.... don't you? :oh:

Oh Serena has also managed to win other GS in the past 4 years. Has Maria? :tape:Since when is Rome a MM?

Rome and Stuttgart are MMs? :haha: given the draws they were probably the most competitive tournaments of the year and featured all top 8 players in it (except for Extremely Injured)

So then it has become more about who the messenger is than what the actual message is. If only what I post irritates you, makes you even call me dumb and annoying ( you don't even know me, yet go calling me dumb?!...I never called you any names, but whatever..it's cool), yet you chose to ignore all the others..ok, no problems.

You don't want me to talk about Serena in threads not related to her, but here Masha-fans can talk every crap about Serena...how am I the trolling one?! That's just your hypocricy, but you can't help it being what you're.

Being a hypocrite would be doing it myself. I don't hold you accountable for every Serena fan's posts, do I? I've brought YOUR posts to your attention.

I'm done with this. If you need further explanation on the distinction, PM me. This doesn't belong here.

Masha is improving each and every round and today was no exception. She played really well against a very tough opponent. She she can keep improving in that same vein its going to be a great final and hopefully she will come away with the win. Well done Masha :cheer:

Just wondering, what's the difference between Sharapova and Kvitova's game that made the difference in which Pova was able to penetrate Kerber's defense but Kvitova couldn't? Kvitova's game is at least on par or even better than Pova when it comes to offensive game play and hitting the lines.

One reason I think is that Petra just couldn't execute her game while Pova can. Petra won the 2nd set easily and that shows what she's actually capable of. But just couldn't execute through out the whole game. Perhaps her abdominal injury is part of the reason too?

faboozadoo15

I think the difference is loose, crazy errors. Kvitova makes more. Sharapova pressured Kerber in such a way that made her think she needed to go for broke to win points.

Sharapova hits deeper than Kvitova on her average ball too.

She's not nearly as consistent off the ground as Maria, and I don't think she moves as well on clay. Kerber's defense would be able to constantly bait Kvitova into error. Plus she was injured.
