Unfortunate to see Pennetta retire due to the wrist injury.

Serena looked sharp and ready for a good match.

Rest up, Flavia. There's time to recover. It didn't seem to be effecting her too horribly.

Well done, Serena. It was nice to see her applauding Flavia at the end. You could see that Pennetta was a bit upset.

Very unfortunate to see. I hope Pennetta's injury isn't too serious, and that she'll be able to recover from it. If there was no injury, I still believe Serena would've won this match in routine fashion. With that said, congratulations to Serena on getting to the semis. She's rolling right through the clay court season.

This has been the kindest red clay draw that Serena has received in seemingly years, even if some of the kindness or relief comes on behalf of an injury on another.

Serena should be pretty well rested for the semifinal and hopefully final. I feel for Flavia, and hope she gets better soon/isn't too serious for the French.

Flavia has a tendency to come back from injury too early.

A real shame, although Serena probably would have won anyway, it would have been a nice match to watch.

Well she was never winning this, so it's wise to not hurt her wrist further so she can still be competitive in doubles.

Serena's streak is still alive :scared:

I wouldn't say that, Petrova could have easily taken her out, that was a tough draw for her. Also potentially Na Li in the SF who she always has trouble with.

Serena's draw is a joke really though

Well Petrova always plays well against her and gave her a tough match, and she can only beat whoever is facing in her the draw right? Not her fault that Wozniacki and Radwanska lost early and Vika withdrew. She will have tough opponents(Li most likely and Maria/Venus/Kvitova) ahead

Think before you post. If Serena wins Rome and Madrid and be Number One and Vika wins AO, FO and Wimbledon and ranked number 2 ( as opposed to Serena's USO 08, AO09, Wimbly 09) then you can joke all you want. The circumstances are not the same, so it doesn't applied here? got it?

Serena's draw is a joke really though

:spit:

Pova gets:

a 31 yr old with an energy sapping illness
then either a player who's worst surface is clay or a player who has an abdonminal injury

and you say Serena's draw is a joke. She's got the RG champion who is playing very well.

These Mashturds are so :cuckoo: or they are just so pressed that their fave may get another BEATDOWN :rolls:

In that case Serena is the not so intelligent one since it was obvious that she was tanking the WTA tournaments left and right to be fit for the Slams. If she thinks that she should still be #1 with that, okay.

Wish Pennetta had been healthy.
I was so waiting to further assess Serena's condition after her last match.
Well, here's hoping Pennetta heals up quickly for RG.
And hopefully she isn't playing doubles here after this 'singles' retirement.
That just wouldn't make sense at all.

On a side note...
MY GOD---!!
Do they have proof-readers and editors in Rome on the Internazionali BNL D'Italia.com website?

Serena's Friday, 18 May, 2012 interview was a complete mess of grammatical and structural mistakes.
Hell, there were even entire questions missed!!!
I mean, there should be a limit!!

Still, at the conclusion, I at least enjoyed this classic rejoinder from the Great Legend Serena:

Q: Which Serena are we talking to today?
WILLIAMS: The Serena that is waiting for the next question and then just wants to go and lie down.
  :worship:
Entire mess of an interview here: http://www.internazionalibnlditalia.com/News/Tennis/2012/Interview-Transcripts/Serena-Williams-Friday.aspx

Serena made that comment in context of what was going on at the time (reportedly started when Dinara and other Russians made some underhanded comments about Serena in Berlin (2008). That said, make no mistake..... Serena is not Dinara and she knows precisely that hyenas are locking around to bring this issue up. To break their heart, should she win Rome, she is determined to follow it up with a RG victory. Big difference I would say. Keep your fingers crossed and enjoy the show!!
