Last week Maria and Serena were scheduled very early in Madrid.
This week, Sharapova vs Venus isn't on Centre Court.

Both of these matches would be on primetime TV anywhere else in the world.

It's great to make the public discover new players but does Kvitova vs Kerber draw a bigger crowd and better ratings? Really?

I highly doubt the WTA as an organization has much say in every tournament's schedule & order of play.

You really have an obsession with the WTA, I don't think I've read a post of you in a while where you were not making a reference to the WTA, as if they were pulling strings in the dark in players & tournaments every move.

This is a WTA Tennis Forum, why would you say s/he is obssessed with WTA?

It could be that they want to showcase emerging home talents, kind of "home" continent treatment given to Kvitova vs Kerber

Lol yea, I meant that it is like he thinks the WTA as an organization were making / rigging everything to suit an invisible agenda or something.

:scared: Maybe they know one of them will pull out, like Azarenka being on Court No. 2.

My first thought when I saw the OOP was TV obligations. Rome probably had the afternoon slots sold to the ATP. Eurosport might have an excellent slot for Venus/Maria. Unlike in America, the night time match is not always the "primetime" match.

Of course, I am just trying to play devil's advocate because I have no way to explain why Venus/Maria, the best matchup of the tournament so far, is not on Center. :speakles:

It's very strange and dare I say disrespectful of the organizers.

Maria is the defending champion and the highest seed left. Venus is a former champion and obviously a huge draw.

All the three main courts (Centrale, SuperTennis Arena and Pietrangeli) are televised and have more or less the same capacity, so stop complaining :o

Have you not thought that Kvitova who is 4th seed has yet to play on the Main Court ??

probably this.
Maybe they even asked players when they want to play and Venus/Maria was against to play the late match. Many times night match not priority for players, thats why laughable when fans complain.

Serena said in one of her interviews that she gets the chance to request the time of day to play. Perhaps Venus and/or Maria preferred to play the day match and Kerber/Kvitova wanted to play at night? Of course the only way to get all those matches in would be to have them on different courts.

I don't see where the problem is considering that they're all going to be aired.

This is what I thought too. Since the only women's matches on Central court had to be at 12:00 and 7:20 pm it's very likely Maria and/or Venus didn't want them because they were too early/too late.

Rest Maria!

It's a joint event and men are much bigger stars for tournament organizers (=have much higher priority). Id's say QFs are still scheduled just fine, there's only one women's match at a time and they're all broadcasted, so a WTA can watch all of the if he wants.

Perhaps they asked the players where they wanted to play and the could not decide, so they just flip a coin!?

Also when they did the OOP Sharapova had not won the previous match yet

Exactly, plus I'm not so sure the winner of the Kvitova/Kerber match is glad to play so late before the semis tomorrow. And this is a packed schedule with both men and women.
Don't know what you're whining about, the Rome schedule has been very good so far.
