TMZ is reporting that Donna Summers has died this morning in Florida at 63. She was reportedly battling cancer. No major news outlet has confirmed the report yet, but if TMZ is right, that's some sad news

I heard it on my car radio about a half hour ago, together with some of her songs. My eyes literally filled with tears, and I'm still somewhat in shock, as I didn't know she was ill. (She was only 63). Donna, I guess this was...

I'm going to put this here because I'm sure not too many people would know who he is on this board.... but I heard Chuck Brown, The god father of Go Go died yesterday of pneumonia. RIP Chuck!

I'm stunned and so very saddened by the loss of Donna. She almost single handedly brought dance music to the mainstream pop charts in the mid 70's .

What allot of people don't know is that Donna continued to record music right up until last year. She landed 4 #1 Billboard Club Play hits over the last 4 years. The last being, To Paris With Love in 2010...

RIP to a lady who made a difference... Heaven is a disco storm tonight...

Thanks for the info. I had no idea. I thought her last hit was "This Time I Know It's For Real". Donna reminds me of my high school dances. "Spring Affair" was big in my neck of the woods. RIP to a dance music trailblazer!

Sad news, too. Prompted me to listen to "DC Don't Stand For Dodge City" for the first time in over 20 years. RIP, Chuck.

Me three.:crying2:

:hysteric: I thought she was already recovering from some illness she had few years back.

She was one of the best vocalist of all time. She may have been ill in her later life, but her voice never shows the sign of deteriorating at all, still maintaining the quality and strength, if not better than before.

So sad :sobbing: Was wondering when she will come out with another album.

RIP Donna, you'll always be my 2nd favourite singer behind Mimi.

Highly annoying but there are tons of ppl who think that that was her last name. Incl. celebs:

Mary J. Blige: RIP Donna Summers!!!!!!!!!. You were truly a game changer!!!

^ Those two are either not familiar enough with Donna or are semi-illiterate.
I've never seen nor heard of anyone ever thinking that 'Summers' was Donna's last name.

BTW besides disco, she was also a pioneer of Dance/Electro mucic - basically she and Moroder helped to establish the genre.
In other words all the dance icons of later years are, to varying degrees, Donna replicants.

I agree that DS was a pioneer but I wouldn't call those that she blazed the trail for replicants. Yep, they do owe her and some borrowed from DS but many carved their own niche.
