What about bremond? Isn't she the highest ranked French player to miss out on MD?? Isn't she ranked about 120?

As usual , 90 % will be out R1

WC should not be allowed on grand slams just maybe in qualifications for promising youngsters below qualifications MD cut off or a former Top 100 player come-back after injuries, retirement (if SR doesn't apply)
Is it normal that a french scrub player who never made top 200 will have a QWC and not Ana Chakvetadze for example :(

Feuerstein doesn't seem to worth a MDWC if you ask me.

No win (or even set won) against top 300 players this year.

No Iryna Bremond for MDWC  - JJ cannot win a round now.

:) Yay glad Ashleigh got the Aus place! :)

Kind of annoying that Chak didn't even get a QWC though. She'd have been a far more worthwhile choice than any of those girls, French or not.

Thanks.

Pavlovic did successfully qualify for the AO this year. Looks like she got the last spot over (Iryna) Bremond, and if the Bremond stats above are accurate...well, I mean, tough call. You'd think being the #1 French player not straight in + 2R last year would be enough, but...

So they didnt give one to the most pedestrian BYE of all: Iryna Brémond :worship:
Some droolicious BYEs though, Larrière, Rezaï...

No surprises for MDWCs. Can't see Feuerstein, Pavlovic or Larrière winning a match (unless they draw Yakimova or each other :oh:) but good luck to them.
QWCs not very surprising too. Only Thorpe has the potential to win a match (and Jabeur of course). Brouleau and Hesse () are walking byes. And what has Piquion done these last 12 months to deserve a WC? Well... good luck girls

Wish they could have found a way to squeeze Chaky in with a QWC. She's beaten six Top 100 players this year but currently languishes outside the top 300 as she tries to rebuild her ranking. As a former quarter-finalist at RG it would have been nice.

Oudin! Why the hell does she get a wildcard? It's a joke it would have made more sense to give the nonsense US wildcard to Jill Craybas. I agree with Ash Barty she looks like she could become a really good player and she could win a round if the draw is kind.

Larriere? :tape: It seems like she's lost every match she's played on clay this year.

Disappointed Mladenovic got another wild card.

Actually expecting Larriere to have a breakthrough if she doesnt face a seed.

Only a little suprised at Pavlovic, but I believe she has a better shot at winning a match (set?) than Iryna Brémond, actually. However, being the top ranked French player out of MD and winning a match here last year should have been enough to get it. She hasn't played well for months though, is getting older, isn't particularly gifted and not long ago she was still Belarussian, so the French might not like it .

 @ some of the reactions in this thread. Wildcards were pretty much expected, Bremond is hopeless so far and maybe suffers from the fact that she's not treated like a true Frenchie ? :p

Besides, not like they had any other decent options

Oudin! Why the hell does she get a wildcard?

Because she won the most WTA ranking points in the three Challenger tournaments designated as the playoffs for the wild card.

Unless you have a problem with MATH

I'm going to stick up for Claire Feuerstein. She's not a world beater (but how many wild cards are, especially at Wimbledon, AO or RG), but she's at her best ever ranking of 159 and is currently leading world no 79 Alexandra Panova 6-2 5-5 in their second round at St Gaudens, so she is clearly capable of challenging or even beating a top 100 player in her current form - which is all you can really ask of a GS WC.

She really lucked out though by receiving WCs into the main draw of these events, whereas poor Grace Min had to play in qualies where she lost, despite being higher ranked than Oudin. Min then went on to win 2 consecutive green clay ITFs and is now well in the top 200.

Julia Cohen could well have been a better choice than Oudin, given their respective performances this week at St Gaudens, surely a better indicator of RG form than American green clay events.

Ashleigh could win a round with a kind draw. She has lots of variety unlike many other juniors these days. Good luck Ash :)

Unfortunately for Julia Cohen, she was eliminated from contention by losing consecutive matches in those qualifying events...to Melanie Oudin.

some really strange choice for MD WC Feurstein and Larrière have no chance. Victoria lost to Dubois in straight set this week :o

Oudin won it so that's alright, Barty is an OZ choice and it makes sense. Garcia deserves it good youngster so does Mladenovic even tho their late results are disappointing. Rezai is a no brainer tbh, as much as she may be playing bad lately, she deserves at least that one chance this year and Pavlovic could give a good match she has decent ITF results.

I wonder if Anna's people would have asked though, because at least they would have to consider it.

Almost all of the French girls will lose the first round, if not all.
I'm glad for Ash and Ons, they deserved their wildcards.
Also, giving QWC to Brouleau is funny
