She changed back to her original serve motion in the Peer match. Serve basically had nothing on it, Peer just sucks. Hopefully this is just Tankarenka and not anything from changing the serve to begin with.

...Or she changed her service motion because of the injury.

Vika has had some very vigorous pre-match warm-up that led to a faa, maybe the same happened here and caused the injury

Yeah hopefully it is. Whenever a player withdraws with shoulder, back or hip injury you get concerned. It is also a bit disrepectful to players, who really suffer from these career-altering injuries.

That´s the general problem with forcing players into mandatory events. Ultimately the prize money and amount of ranking points should pick the voluntary schedule for the players. We have only played one of the six major tournaments of the year and Azarenka has already played 38 matches. No wonder she wants a break or rest some nagging minor injuries.

I'm big fun of Vika but it was not professional act. It's obvious that she, the WTA and the orgnisers knew already before the match that she is not gonna play more than one match. She was totally fine during the match, nothing happened during the match, this was decision taken already before that. I understand her desicion not to play full tournament after two finals, it's not a bad act but there is a way to do it, not like this.

I'm not saying it because of Shahar, even if it was Rodionova, I would say the same thing. You don't want to play the tournament- give others chance to play and don't do calculations of 0 Points or 125 points. This is just dissapoitment to see such a brilliant player do such a problematic act.

scheduled for court #2 tomorrow, the tournament already knew she was gonna pull out obviously. funny how she played useless peer 'extremely injured' yet it was so bad she obviously couldn't keep playing until she got beat by a decent player

OR the tournament did not want Peer/Cibulkova to be on CC in case Peer beat Azarenka today, as there was "possible court change" next to their match in the OOP. If Vika won, the Cibulkova match would've been moved to CC. That's pretty logical, don't you think?

Maybe Vika was forced to play this tournament by the WTA and its stupid rules so she played one match to avoid a fine and a zero-pointer and then withdrew to be fit for RG. Not saying that this is good (I criticisi this as I criticise Serena who does that all the time), but I think it's understandable to a certain degree.

Victoria has 2 0's in her ranking already, Cincinatti and Dubai -- she at least played one match in Rome (Premier 5) and throw it away then after to not worsen it and her ranking.

That's what she did --

I don't know the rules for a player who has three 0's in their ranking.

LOL at people calling this a smart move. Azarenka has basically zero real clay court preparation for RG. Rome is the only real warm-up tournament left.

if she has an injury than why worsen it? I seriously doubt Vika is losing before the 4th round(at the earliest) in RG anyways.

Oh well. Being 100% for RG is top priority. Would have liked to see that rematch against Cibulkova though.

Me too ;)

WHAT!? :sobbing:

Rest up for RG, Vika.

Not liking her chances now considering how much real clay match play she has. :(

I didn't spot she was in pain with her shoulder : very weird  Why didn't she withdraw just after her loss at Madrid ? It's just comes out of the blue :(

 Was that deliberate?

She finds no satisfaction playing a tournament without Radwanska to beat.

Better to withdraw now and make it look like she's injured and not before the next round where it would have looked like she is afraid to play Serena.

She looked just fine against Peer. Maybe a little tired but that's it.
Now this is annoying, why can't Shahar play Cibulkova instead of her?

You think Serena will go that far, and be all exhausted in Paris, no way Jose :)

I couldn't held myself. :sobbing:

Even easier road for Serena..........

Li Na is more of a threat to Serena than Vikaria.

Because she won only 3 games in the match :)

Not that smart move i would say, she should have retired in the early rounds in Madrid at the fake clay, Rome is way better to prepare for Roland Garros, but whatever suits her

What a joke. She'll be given a lashing in Paris on Chatrier. Scrub skank.

What has Azarenka ever done on "true" red clay? One title, Marbella.

Azarenka can't hit winners on slow clay nor can she do anything good. She had nice results on Stuttgart and Madrid (faster clay that helps her generate pace). In heavier conditions, her innocuous game is useless against a higher level opponent.

She's better off practicing moonballing with Bagelie for the next week and a half.

 don't be stupid. She had more chances to beat Rena in here than she had in Madrid.
Don't really know what's the matter with her but she needed a break that's for sure. See you at the FO.

Right on. Didn't make any sense that she was scheduled on court 2 (the only singles match on that court today). Meaning that she told organizers she would withdraw BEFORE playing Peer. Which makes her case aggravating. :tape:

World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka has pulled out of the Premier tournament in Rome after her 6-1, 6-2 opening-round victory over Shahar Peer with right shoulder trouble. Azarenka was rumored to have shoulder problems last weekend in Madrid, but after Serena Williams overwhelmed her in the final, she refused to discuss the issue.
