Cetkovska is a Radwanska (drop-shots, slices etc.) in a little bit more powerful -- WTA might need legions of players like her to consitently defeat Radwanska early in tournaments ; pretty much a fan's fantasy.

True Red clay isn't Radwanska's stuff anyways -- she was pretty cruising on the fast HC's clay the last few weeks overrating her true abilities on the surface --

She's clearly no fave for RG.

All true observations. Aga normally outgrinds those sorts of matches when she's not at her best, but today Petra's defensive slice proved too good for that - whenever Aga got Petra out of position, Petra was sending slice that landed near the bases with staggering accuracy. Add Aga's very sluggish running towards the net and very poor volleys and we have a rather complete description of the match.

She hit 44 winners. Her combination of slice and ballbash was excellent! Particularly, her drop shot today made Aga frustrated many times.:lol:And the net helped her a lot.She should have won the match in 2 sets.Aga's style has not threatened to her at all(That's why Petra leads 4-0 in H2H?).

Petra played really well. In many ways Petra's game isn't that disimilar to Aga's own. Thing is, when they are playing each other Petra seems to do everything just a little bit better than Aga. Oh yes, especially the dropshots. Petra's dropshots were absolutely things of great beauty. Well done to her.

As for Aga, well, she wasn't ever going to go the whole season without a non-Azarenka loss so it was just a matter of time. Petra does give her a lot of trouble and she really showed in this match why she has the 4-0 edge of Aga so Petra deserves the title of 1st non-Vika vanquisher of Aga of the year as much as anyone.

Aga did pretty well in both Stuttgart and Madrid but both of those are much much faster than a normal clay court, as is Charleston, which Aga didn't play. So for most of the top players Rome really is the first real clay of the season. This match rather confirmed that Aga isn't at her best on normal clay (i.e. not the fast clay of Charleston, Stuttgart and Madrid). Will be interesting to see how well Aga rebounds in Brussels and especially Paris.

It's amazing Aga is #3 and still has a good chance to get to #2. I've never seen any top 3 player with so little power. I can see why she has so much trouble with Cetkovska because they have almost the same game but Cetkovska maybe a little more power.

Great performance by Petra, she knows all Aga's week points, had good strategy and had the skills to use it.
Instead of mindlessly trying to hard hit Aga's second serve she used variety of slices and dropshots. Very smart play with few unforced errors. :hatoff:

Radwanska was totally unmotivated today. Played @ her 50% and in the 3-rd set she looked like just wanted to end this right away and go shopping.

Apparently she knew her draw. She would have to face Serena in couple of days so she would not reach QF anyways. Did not have to defend many points from last year either so... why bother. She played a lot in last months, time for couple of weeks off.

4-0 and counting... :D

Petra's rise is very good for WTA. She's one of the prettiest players and may attract more viewers to matches. If she wasn't injured in December, she might be now even higher in the rankings. She was scheduled to play doubles with Lucie Šafářová in the Czech league finals, but had to be replaced with Kvitty.

There may be a nice battle for the Czech No.2 spot and place in the Fed Cup team with Lucie.

Congrats Petra, she is a very dangerous player who poses a threat to top players when she is on.

Aga has a good year so far, but her " only defeated by Vika" crap has been blew up out of proportion. She was very consistent to defeat lower ranked players and stopped by Vika in QFs, SFs, so she didn't have a chance to go farther and lost to other top players

Radwanska's shots are soooo FLUFFY, I probably had the same groundstroke speed when I was 10.

Glad someone else besides Azarenka has been competent enough to dispatch her.

Radwanska is out, that witch is out! Now she can play her MMs and Azarenka can laugh out loud. Radwanska is a shint on clay, she onlz likes purple Miami clay etc.

Bye gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl :drive: :bigwave:

Did you even watched the game ? Petra's biggest weapon today was the FLUFFY groundstrokes...
Instead of mindlessly trying to hit hard for crazy winners she used variety of slices and dropshots against Radwanska.
Very smart play with few unforced errors and also quite entertaining.

Apparently there are very few players who can outmaneuver Radwanska like that.

Exactly. It is not like she needs match play. These players need to learn how to let the competiveness build up. Week after week and it all becomes a blur.

Heck, join the Empress and have a shop off. Fuck it, go on a pose fest with your sister and post them on the internet for TF's amusement.

Unlikely, Petra will not get that much further on clay (QF maybe).
She has great skills and plays very smart tennis (just like Radwanska when motivated) but this may not be enough to beat more focused players. Radwanska played shit today; completely let it go in the 3-rd set. Looked so annoyed and anxious to run away from the court ASAP :bolt:

what? why would be darkhorse? I dont get it. she can do well, R3-R4, but not a world beater.
She just pretty good against Radwanska, kind of like a mirror match up, although Cetkovska´s game has more variety.

May 16th, 2012, 10:35 PM
Kind of hilarious that Radwanska has a bogey-woman apart from Azarenka these days.

Cetkovska completely at ease with everything Radwanska tried junking and throwing at her. At times looked like she had masses of time on every ball, and completely exploiting Radwanska's lack of agility on the surface, and those innocuous rallying balls.

The funniest thing is, Cetkovska isn't even a big, or sizeable ball-striker. She just plays a more compact brand of tennis vs Radwanska in every area.

serendipitynow
May 16th, 2012, 10:38 PM
and Cetkovska's streak continues against Radwanska 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.. :oh:

seriously, radwanska is just pathetic.

after the match, to get the player lounge she had to go across a "streat" close to the grounds, where normally a lot of kids ask for autographs, most of the tennis players stop, other just dont.

but she asked ALL the kids to be sent off the grounds, cause she didnt want to see/hear anyone, only after that, she got to the player lounge.
