Build on this Bibi :yeah: Only her 5th tournament of the season, stupid injuries  Good win against an in form player.

Mel  It's nice to see her winning matches again

Schoofs shots are extremly effective and she creates great angles with them.
Well done to Oudin for pushing her to 3 sets I guess...

I thought things were looking up for Melanie

I heard her on ESPN interview sounding very rejuvenated and psotive again after making changes to train with the USTA.
Hope this is a temporary setback

Melanie Oudin's 1st Rd loss at a MM tourney sorta speaks volumes.
She seems a mere shadow of her former 2009 USO performance.
One is left wondering WTH happened?!

 Tanking these useless ITFs for her deep run in RG :rocker2:

In all fairness to Mel though, she's never been good on this surface. Even though she just won a title on green clay, that's a vastly different surface than red clay because it's so much slower. It's almost like winning an outdoor hard court event and then getting criticized for being bad on indoor hard.

We all know the only way she will win a round at Roland Garros is with a very kind draw. But either way I'm glad she's willing to swallow her pride, enter challenger qualifying and continue the rebuilding process. I have a feeling this summer is where we will really start to see some significant process from her.

Yeah red clay isn't Mel's best surface. And bear in mind she won three matches already to get into the main draw here. Plus she's played those three tournaments in a row in the US to get the RG wildcard. So she's played a lot and I don't see it as a major setback that she lost here at this stage.

Maybe would have been good to get one or two more matches on the red clay. But she can now concentrate on preparing well for Roland Garros.

And to think of all the people who hyped this girl up as the next big thing.

She did beat Zanevska in qualifying which was an amazing win for her recent standards. No shame in losing to Schoofs on her worst surface either; Bibi has proven her skills on a few occasions. :)

I don't root for Melanie but I hope neither her fans nor haters alike read too far into this loss. Just because there is talk that she is regaining some sort of semblance of form doesn't mean she will win every single match she plays. Plus, Schoofs is a good player who seemed bound for the top 100 after Luxembourg last year until she got hurt.

Mel's play is no doubt leaps and bounds ahead of where she was last year, but still she will not win every single match. :)
