View Full Version : What does Kerber have to do to get into Top Ten?

Kerber is # 11 and needs 400 points to get past Zvonareva. Any chance to do that this week?

What about next week when Vera has to defend some points?

I think she couldn´t play a match for the next two months and would end up in the top 10 for the majority of the time. Lisicki 900 off, Schiavone 1600 off, Li 2000 off, Petkovic injured, Zvonareva doesn´t look like she´ll win another match this year, and everybody else except Ana is already 800 points behind her. Not even Peer could screw this up.

Nothing. She'll be top 10 by the start/end etc. of RG probably even by Rome, don't know her ranking so well.

Kerber's a shoe-in for the top 10, no debate necessary.

However, nobody's been mentioning how close VIP is to getting back to the top 10 after RG. She has nothing to defend until Birmingham and she's still in Rome. A win tomorrow will put her just behind Lisicki (13), and a there are going to be two top 10 spots up for grabs very soon. She'll probably just need a cushy 4th round draw at RG to seal it.......

More like players ranked #8 and lower are less and less competitive.

It´s bascially

Azarenka
Sharapova
Radwanska
Kvitova
Stosur
Serena
Wozniacki
Na Li
Bartoli
Kerber
Petkovic (who gets an injury pass)
and Clijsters every four months

The rest is irrelevant. Whether you are Zvonareva, Schiavone, Cibulkova, Jankovic, Pavlyuchenkova, Larsson, Rodionova or #126. Same shit, different number.

so it's getting back to the early 2000s/late 90s? I think that is a good thing. All I hope for is more competitive matches between the top 8 though. One-sided finals are boring.

1 Azarenka, Victoria BLR 5640
2 Sharapova, Maria RUS 3640
3 Radwanska, Agnieszka POL 3535
4 Williams, Serena USA 2120
5 Kerber, Angelique GER 1955

This week TOP10 changes is possible only if in Rome Kerber reach final or Ivanovic title.
But during Roland Garros there will be 2 empty places into TOP10 with 4 serious contenders to reach that - Kerber, Zvonareva, Lisicki and Ivanovic, where Kerber position from this point is arguable better than other three girls.
Kerber Actually have very nice chances to reach even TOP8 after Wimbledon because Bartoli defending over 2000 points in next 6 weeks!

They've had impressive performances this year, but none of those consistent or deep enough to compare to Kerber's results this year or put them anywhere near top 10 in short term.

I just know likeable Angie isn't like some of you pricks sitting there with your tongues, and hell knows what else hanging out dribbling all over an injured player as she loses her points, rampant vulturism. Angie is capable of climbing using her own talent.
It's not so much celebrating it as much as simply describing the reality - of players who finished 2011 in top 20, 5-6 have had exceptional results this year and the rest is either injured or out of form, making room for a player like Angelique to skyrocket in rankings. She obviously earned it by winning a lot of matches though.

Wait :oh:

Zvonareva, Petkovic, Lisicki, Schiavone, Bartoli (don't forget those fluke RG SF points) and even Li Na (who is SO not defending the title this year) are all in for a huge drop. The scrubs behind her ain't doing anything either. She'll be top 8 in no time, deservedly so.

I'm loving this cleansing in the top 10. All those 2010/2011 flukes and leftovers are being purged and sent back to where they belong.

With Kerber semifinal in Rome she will be tied with Zvonareva next monday (3560 points both), but according to current rules I think Zvonareva will stay #10.

Zvonerava is getting a zero for Rome(premier 5 commitment). The zero will count in her best 16. So, 3640-200 Brussels= 3440.

EDIT: I checked now TBE ranking thread and see that he also not replace hers Brussels/11 200 pts with Charleston/12 120 pts (so she is 3440 next week), but I'm still not sure is that correct that Zvonareva will have two non-mandatory bagels (Stuttgart and Rome) with 3x120 non-counted results (Charleston/12, Moscow/11 and Eastbourne/11) in monday ranking.

To get into the top ten Angie doesn't need to really do much of anything. A number ten ranking is pretty much guaranteed. To get into the top eight Angie needs to simply keep doing what she has been doing all season long, winning.

What's she doing now, hard work, with some self-belief and a little luck.

I think what kick-start her career was losing to Laura Robson in Wimbledon last year. I attend this match and she really should have won. She was so angry with herself. I think she go back to the locker room and swear to herself, 'Angelique, NEVER AGAIN.' and it's worked
