Serena mocks men as 'weenies'

Sun, 13 May 20:13:00 2012

Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and others who have complained about the blue clay at the Madrid Open are "weenies", according to former women's number one Serena Williams.
Asked about criticism from Djokovic and Nadal over the slippery surface on the Manolo Santana show court, Williams told a news conference that women were simply tougher than their male counterparts.

"Women are way tougher than men. That's why we have the babies, you guys could never handle kids," Williams said after thumping top seed Victoria Azarenka 6-1 6-3 to win the Madrid title on Sunday.

"We ladies don't complain we just do our best. On the WTA (tour) we are real performers, we are not about going out there and being weenies."

Dictionary.com lists several definitions of "weenie" including "an insignificant, disliked person" or "a stupid and inept male".

Djokovic and Nadal have threatened to boycott the Madrid event next year unless the traditional red dirt is reinstated.

The ATP Tour's surfaces are custom made for these two in order to help them go further into draws and help ticket sales.
For the first time in years, something doesn't go their way and they reveal their true colors.

True champions adapt to everything. Roger and Serena both won Madrid. Enough said.

Maria and Serena had far tougher lives, never complained.
If they don't feel good, they tough it out instead of faking some injury when they're in trouble.

However they were not the only ones saying the surface is potentially dangerous. And sometimes you could indeed see that moving on it is not so easy. I don't mind surfaces being faster but they should be safe. Better idea is to make grass and some hard courts faster imo.

The guys have a point. You don't need to even play to get an idea of how slippery it is when compared to other clay tournaments. People were scrambling every where.

The problem, however, is not in the color but rather in the way they've built the surface - it's shit and everybody knows it.

They can keep the color but they have to try harder with the grip on the surface.

Nadal is threatening to boycott the event next year because he is afraid of more tournaments following suit by mixing things up and altering the speed of the courts. As much as a joke Madrid has been, I can't deny that it has been nice to see first strike attacking tennis for a change.

Nadal's and Djokovic's whining was excessive. They defeated themselves really. A player has to make adjustments. They should have just made their point, strongly, once, and then played on. In press conferences, they can simply say they don't want to talk about the subject anymore. Even the Eurosport commentator during Serena's match (not Jo Drurie) said they came off poorly in the debate.

Obviously, Serena is joke-mocking. But it is true that fewer women complained. They just got on with it.

I prefer the faster courts, but I don't want to see players injured, especially after seeing sweet Julien Benneteau get totally screwed with injuries at Monte Carlo (Monaca was injured, too) on a traditional clay court.

She's right. The men bitch and complain over the most retarded things ever. First of all all of the the hard courts on the ATP tour are blue so this is just the common evolution that the clay would be turned blue too at some point. And seriously the tour doesn't have to do nothing it's there choice they run the damn thing and so they have every right to color it however they want too. The men need to act like grown men and not like spoiled rich brats . Serena is totally on

I didn't mind the whining part, Nadal whines way too often as if he was the owner of this sport, so it's nothing new. But boycott threats are a completely new level of their bratty behavior. OK, you don't like the surface - skip it next year. I love Novak, really, but his job is not to set the rules, decide about the surfaces etc. His job is to play. By the way, I didn't notice that the players were getting injured more often than usually.

The thing I commend Serena about is, even thought she had concerned about the surface texture, she decided to make the best of the situation, and vent later.

Well first and foremost, let me just be quite honest in saying that nobody on here has any right to bad mouth Nadal or Djokovic. They have every right to say what they feel about important issues, just like the rest of the players, and if people don't like it, that's too bad. They were not the only ones who expressed some rather harsh feelings about the Madrid clay, so why don't some of you get off their backs already.

I think that Nadal and Nole made a legitimate point about the blue clay, it certainly affected their play and have a right to complain, I don't think Roger or Berdych were too thrilled with it either, it was damn slippery in spots, and the many video's of the tournament show them. In today's match (just ATP) they did some "grading" in between points to try and eliminate all the kinks on the court...Serena has a "big mouth" (among other things) :confused:and likes to voice her opinion like she's some kind of expert...yeah! the men are all "weenies" (Sereno is still looking for a BIG one) but compared to the WTA pussie cats, the one lioness roars on!!:mad::help:

The truth. I only wish she had gone harder and that more players had the guts to speak up about how Nadal and Djokovic run the tour nowadays. All they have to do is cry and whine and they get everything catered towards them. They truly seem to think being in the final of every event is their right, and every event needs to help them by creating a matching surface for all events that is perfect for their games.

Seriously, do you think Nadal and Djokovic care about anything said on TennisForum? Get real. They expressed their opinions, and people here have expressed theirs (you, too, by the way). That's the way it should be.

Anyway, no one said they were the only ones to complain, but they were the loudest and most vehement. Where did it get them? Everyone had the same court. To say that it doesn't favor their game (an argument Nadal used) is to miss that maybe their preferred courts (and tournaments) don't favor others. You see how that works? Everyone has to adjust to the court conditions at every tournament. The tournament directors needed to hear what the players had to say about the conditions and their worries about their safety (and I think Santana/Tiriac heard the criticism) and attempted the corrections that could be done during the tournament, but the continued carping and threatening of boycotts by Nadal/Djokovic was ridiculous and sounded like whining because they didn't get their way.

I'm glad the tournament is over, so we can go back to talking about women's tennis.

This is one of the most stupid post that I ever read. When you are good enough to smile at people who threw shit at you on the streets for no good reason, come back to this thread.

Also, gloating on about the advantage of men over women is the epitome of stupidity. Men are naturally aggressive and physically stronger than women due to hormone and body structures. Lower in body fat, narrower hip, broader shoulder and more developed muscular system also help them to reach a higher level of execute shots with higher pace and moving better, so unless they have their balls cut off and on long period estrogens treatment then it's not fair to say such statement. Did you see how well the only transgender player performed on the WTA?

Tennis is an entertainment sports. The ability to attract attention and entertain from an entertainer is what matters. That was how Serena, Seles, Hingis, Graf, etc... are the stars while Stepanek, Chela, Dodig,Querrey, etc... are not although they might come out winners in each match matching to the opposite gender players aforementioned. Your mom is not any unworthy than your dad just because he is able to physically beating her to pieces. Got it?

Nadal and Djokovic are the biggest whiners on both tours. They need to realise that sometimes the courts are gonna get faster rather than slower. Im sick and tired hearing them complain about every single little thing that doesnt suit them personally. They were always going to lose early in Madrid with their defeatist attitudes regarding the surface. Im personally delighted with the speed of the courts, and Serena is totally right to say this, jokingly or not.

I prefer the faster courts, but I don't want to see players injured, especially after seeing sweet Julien Benneteau get totally screwed with injuries at Monte Carlo (Monaca was injured, too) on a traditional clay court.
maybe it is true on some extent, or maybe women just not enough important that media would care what they say, especially when men starting bitching too.

Of course they have every right to express their opinion, just like many other players have this past week. What some of us are critizising here is that they have threatened to boycott a tournament if it doesn't meet their requirements. That is very different from just stating your opinion about the courts, and far from being a constructive stand for the sport. They're basically blackmailing the organizers using their fame and "importance" to get what they want. That is an unprofessional behaviour any way you look at it.

It's not the first time these two complain about something anyway, especially Nadal :o, so people have a right to have an opinion on their behaviour as well, even if you don't share it as a Nadal fan (I suppose you are seeing your avi). No offense.

I guess the women simply told themselves to pretend this was US Har Tru but just darker. To me the court looked like "American Clay". That green stuff used most recently at Charleston, its always been a fast slick surface. Its only ironic that now that they have slowed down all the hard courts, the blue clay is now faster then red clay. ALl we need now is blue grass!

Translation:
Serena Williams: ''Men are weaklings''

AMSTERDAM - Serena Williams has firmly criticised her male colleagues after her victory on the blue clay in Madrid. The American tennis player thinks that they shouldn't moan about the clay surface.

Players like Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal had criticised the blue clay. The numbers 1 and 3 of the world rankings said that the court was slippery.

Williams, who beat Victoria Azarenka in the final, called her male colleagues a bunch of wimps. ''Women are a lot more tough than men. That's why we give birth, you guys couldn't handle that.''

''We, the women, don't complain, we give it our best shot. On the WTA tour we deliver the real performances. We don't hang around like weaklings.''

Roger Federer manages to win the title in Madrid by beating Tomas Berdych in the final.

Good point . :yeah:

ATP players have been mocking/ attacking the WTA players all the time. It's about time a WTA player stands up and return the favor. And there is no one is more suitable to that position other than Serena! Serena was apparently joking when asked about the matter. She then tried to have some fun to kick back some asses on the ATP and drew some laughs in the Press conference and she has always done. LOL at some pressed, unintelligent posters failed to see the humor in this circumstance and attack Serena.

I loved Nadal for being a humble champion in the past, but I have lost some respect for him lately because of his " ATP diva attitude". Nadal has whined a lot lately when things didn't go his way and especially he against the idea to raise price money for early round losers, a.k.a lower ranked players. When you have everything in the world, it's appropriate to be a bit less greedy and let others live. It's good that Serena let those ATP divas have some touch of reality.

The thing about Djokovic and Nadal isn't that they complained. It's that once they complained and shared their stance/opinion of the Blue Clay they continued to talk about it non-stop. THEN finally once they lost they acted like little bitches and said they would never come back. Uhhh....that's how it always goes with them (especially Nadal).

Serena mocks men as 'weenies'
Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and others who have complained about the blue clay at the Madrid Open are "weenies", according to former women's number one Serena Williams.
First, she was totally out of line for making sweeping comments on men. Her comments border more on Feminism so she should have been more responsible, be it quoting it in lighter vein or not

Again, this is more like feminist talk. She's not even qualified as a Mom, let alone having babies! Almost every ATP/WTA players complained about the poor Madrid surface/event, and those matches looked pathetic with few crowds. I think WTA should pull this event out of Madrid from the fan popularity PoV.

"We ladies don't complain we just do our best. On the WTA (tour) we are real performers, we are not about going out there and being weenies."
I never read more immature comment from any Tennis player. Perhaps Serena should go back to 2012 Australian Open Finals:

5–7, 6–4, 6–2, 6–7(5–7), 7–5 done and dusted in ~6 hrs

If you're reading this thread, please top that before making any absurd comments :o

Bottom line: ATP/WTA top players were correct in criticizing the Madrid surface. Period.

"To me that's not tennis. Either I come out with football shoes or I invite Chuck Norris to advise me how to play on this court. Center court is impossible to move on. I hit five balls throughout the whole match. With everything else, I was just trying to keep the ball in the court. Well none of the good clay courters seemed to be comfortable on it so I suspect his criticisms were justified. He's right about one thing, I didn't hear one player say they liked it and a number were scathing in their criticism. That he made this comment after a match he had won shows that it was a genuine issue to him rather than an excuse.

When you slide on the red clay you have a feeling you can stop and recover from that step. But here, whatever you do ... you are always slipping. Not a single player - not woman not man - I didn't hear anyone say 'I like blue clay.'"

Djokovic's comment after winning his 2nd round match.
And then after he lost he said he would boycott the tournament, no? The PEAK of the complaints.

Cirstea said she enjoyed it, as well as Venus.

Federer isn't a good clay court player? Oh.

Some men are tagged as weenies because they felt court conditions at Madrid put them at risk of serious injury. One of them carrying an ongoing niggle in his knee. But they played the tournament until beaten as expected.

The name caller gave an unexpected WalkOver at the SemiFinal stage in Rome because she had a niggle in her back that could possibly develop into an issue if she didn't retire immediately. So what is that?

Weenie Envy?

or

UpStaging The Weenies?

or

Weenie Warfare?

or

Weenie Flip Flop?

or

Weenie Fail?

or

Weenie Whacked?

or

Weenie Wonders?

or

Wicked World Of Weenies?

or

Weenie Woman?

It just seems right that if Weenie is now part of TF GM jargon for men, then there should be a corresponding term for women. I prefer Weenie Woman with Weenie Envy in second and Weenie Warfare in third. Perhaps all three depending on context and grammar.

You're trying too hard and you're failing miserably.

in the final , she could have injured after she slipped and landed on her butt.....Thanks God she is Ok and can make fun of ATP

So..how many matches were played during that tournament, both men's and women's? And how many people got hurt do to the supposedly slippery court? None? So how bad was the court, really? And the players' could have hurt themselves slipping around in the mud in the final of Rome. The whinning about the Blue clay was over the top.

Federer isn't a good clay court player? Oh.
Roger is a good one indeed, but he isn't that great on clay to hurl this comment against #1 and #2:

"If you want to be a good clay court player, you must be able to play everywhere....."

Want to be, seriously? :D :tape:

Then, he closed the comments by acknowledging:

"It is slippy, there's no doubt about that but that has been the case here for a few years. They haven't yet found the perfect balance....."

So was my response to the Serena's immature comments against men

Federer, in my opinion, has been the second best clay court player for about 6 or 7 years. So, he does have the right. If not for Nadal, Federer would have multiple FO titles. So, I think he is more than justified in what he said.

Plus, the surface was slippery. It was slippery last year, too. That's what many of the players said. So. What. Every surface isn't suppose to be a perfect fit for every player. You make do, even when the surface doesn't suit your playing style.

Hmm it must be really new and strange for you to hear things like that coming from a player - especially with the players you have in your sig. :awww:

EDIT: Can't see what she said was wrong or bad, She was having fun with them, but on TF having fun is against the law from what I see.

 I love how you ALWAYS come back with stuff about the players' in posters' sigs ALL THE TIME in every argument, even when it has absolutely nothing to do with the disscussion, it does nothing at all to contradict what's being said, and it shows you're really childish and that you don't really have anything worthy to say about the thread.

One time is ok, but it's just the shear amount with Serena. And knowing about some of the things she's said and done in the past, there is always a question mark.

Obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anxiety_disorder) characterized by intrusive thoughts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intrusive_thoughts) that produce uneasiness, apprehension, fear, or worry, by repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing the associated anxiety, or by a combination of such obsessions and compulsions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compulsive_behavior). Symptoms of the disorder include excessive washing or cleaning; repeated checking; extreme hoarding (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compulsive_hoarding); preoccupation with sexual (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_obsessions), violent or religious thoughts; aversion to particular numbers; and nervous rituals, such as hating on Serena Williams at every opportunity. These symptoms can be alienating (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_alienation) and time-consuming, and often cause severe emotional and financial distress (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Financial_distress). The acts of those who have OCD may appear paranoid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paranoid) and potentially psychotic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychotic). However, OCD sufferers generally recognize their obsessions and compulsions as irrational, and may become further distressed by this realization.

You never have anything relevant to share either. It's simply just an opportunity for you to attack/insult Serena. I said it before, but it's pathetic. And quite sad. It really is obsessive. Every Serena thread I go to, your comments are there, most of the time before I have even posted. O-b-s-e-s-s-i-o-n.

"If you want to be a good clay court player, you must be able to play everywhere....." What did you smoke before coming up with that fantasy? Or maybe the Tikka masala you ate was too hot and caused you to hallucinate?

Of course Fed is a great clay courter! He's second (or third) to Nadal (and Guga) as the best goddamn claycourter of this century as a matter of fact. So he not only has a license to have an opinion, he damn has MORE license cuz there is almost no one else better qualified to speak on the subject!
