4 courts are being livestreamed (not the best quality). Doesn't seem the accompanying scoreboard is working quite yet.

I imagine this is more of a warm up for playing pro tournaments over the next few weeks. She hasn't played for a little while, so she probably wants some match practice before she gets to the guts of things.

Storm won.

Ash is in a real battle here, her opponent is retrieving everything and play consistently, while Ash is making heaps of unforced errors.

binky-GOAT
May 15th, 2012, 11:54 AM
Ash closed it out easily in the 2nd set, 1st set went for almost an hour. Very scratchy performance but it was a good win because her opponent was playing really well. Her first serve is so much better than other girls in this tournament.

Storm was much stronger than her opponent, who was just a pusher really. She can go far here. (but she may have lost there are no scorecards, didn't look like it though :oh:)

Bains is quite an aggressive player too. She has a very strong return. But her serve is a bit weak and I think her technique needs tightening up. But like Storm I think she has the power to do well here. (but maybe she lost in the 2nd round )

Hilarious watching aussie girls warm up. Ash is just fooling around, while everybody is taking it seriously. Some of her groudstrokes are flying out of the court, she's attempting crazy drop shots, random net rushes and even an attempted tweener (which landed half way up the net). Right next to her Bains is just absolutely creaming the ball, hitting return winners at will, playing like it's a real match.

Ana is exactly one year and 2 weeks younger then Varvara. Orange Bowl and Abierto Juvenil was both in december. Varvara was 7 months older at those events than Ana is in this very moment.

Not really a test of anything if Konjuh loses. Barty is the heavy, heavy favorite; she's #3 in the world and Konjuh is not even 14.5 years old yet (1.5 years younger than Barty).

I didnt say the same as, I said like. I know that Varvara turned 15 in December!!!! I am not stupid!!! Also, I havent seen Ana make the quarters of the most pretigious non GA grandlam, or the final of a GA (I know its very week)

I know, but if she loses 0 and 0, we will be able to tell her mentality ;)
If she pushes close, it can show she's not intimidated and has a sgot at some of the bigger tournaments
You can tell more from a loss than from a win

Nobody told you're stupid, but superficial, like always. 7 months is some time when we talk about 14/15 years old girls. Ana will turn 15 this december.

Well then we will learn that she will have the mentality to do well. Btw, she is actually bigger than Varvara Flink in size, so age at this stage doesn't really matter ;)
Also, I never said she would lose 0 and 0, and we will still be able to tell a lot from her loss. Anyway, she sounds like a good player, and I think I will watch the final

1-0 Barty breaks
1-1 Konjuh breaks back
3-1 Barty breaks and holds
close games until now
3-3 after a break to 0 by Konjuh :)
3-4 Konjuh after another whitewash
In this point Ana Konjuh has at least 10 points won in a row.

Yeah, looks like Ash retired, but I don't know the reason. She didn't seem to have problems.

Her first serve looked horrible today and yesterday, and she didn't post anything on twitter yesterday, so she might have had some kind of injury?

It's possible. Her serve didn't look so well.

Probably precautionary for Ash to pull out if she has a tweak. Got to be right for RG, and this was after all, just a warm up.

Well done Ana.

Congratulations Ana. She got a bit lucky with the withdrawal but she deserves it. I am also happy that she won because Ash doesn't really need any 25k WCs, but Ana does :)

Are you seriously saying that she is a better player then Ash Barty???? I mean, everyone expected her to lose, and even if Ash played on she probably would have won.

Who said that? No. Ash is definitely much better at this point. I guess yesterday Ana was much more focused, as Ash probably doesn't give a damn for a G1 anymore. Plus, I guess Ash had some health issues. In a normal day she would've beaten Ana, but not easily. But this doesn't take away Ana's merits at all. She's an year and a half younger and has far less experience in strong competitions. She may be better then Barty someday. However, both girls seem to have bright futures.
