Nope! Studying anthropology has made me realize even more that religion is something created by societies for various reasons, usually to deal with cultural revitalization. It is nothing more than a coping mechanism, IMO.

I have my own beliefs that i made up myself, not based on one religious system. I don't believe in God as SHE is depicted according to any one set of values.

However, I'm not 100% positive, and am currently wavering between yes and I don't know.

Crazy Canuck

I also don't actually think God has a gender, or that we are the spitting image of said being.

I find that very egotistical for a species that has been around for less than 1% of all time to think they are king shit of the universe.

Yes, I absolutely believe there is a "God" or "Gods."

Science cannot explain the creation of the universe. The logical explanation is that there is something out there much greater than we.

Not really.

If you don't believe "God" to be all that is good, OR all that is evil, but a combination of both - the there is no opposite that you MUST believe in.

I'm not questioning your beliefs, just pointing out that it does make sense to believe in a divine form of being, without believing in Satan.

Crazy Canuck

I'm thinking you didn't understand.

Let's try this again:

If you believe that some devine force created EVERYTHING - as I do - then you are taking into account that they created both what we percieve as good, and what we see as evil.

Thus, they are neither good NOR evil.

In which case, there is no reason that I have to believe in an opposite, as said being doesn't have one as such.

Crazy Canuck
Nov 21st, 2002, 09:57 PM
I should have put that I didn't make myself clear, as opposed to "you didn't understand". Seeing as me not making myself cler, led to my point being misunderstood. Anyhow...

Once again, I wasn't questioning people who have the belief in both, I was merely expressing why I don't feel that I have to see it that way myself.

YAY! Another religious discussion! Well, I really never get tired of talking about it, but I'm not gonna come in here and talk about Jesus. But don't take it like I don't believe anymore!

Just think with me for a minute. I believe in God. You don't. Using LOGIC here (GASP!) let's examine the possibilities:

You're right, I'm wrong. There is no God. No problem, we're both dust forever.

I'm right, you're wrong. There is a God. And a heaven. And a hell. What then?

Not trying to "fire-and-brimstone" you all, just presenting the facts here. Adios!

Irma: I know what you mean!

I'm not really sure if I believe that God really judges us. I'm not going to say he doesn't, but having one chance to live I think it would be hard to live perfectly. And by perfectly I don't mean w/o sinning. I always felt that God has probably grew with the times, if that makes sense. Some things in the Bible are outdated, and a lot of people will tell you this. But what is considered outdated is what separates people. I'm not a Bible expert but I believe it says if you work on Sunday you will be punished and go to hell. Now is God going to send people to hell for working on Sunday? There are a lot of things the Bible says that sound crazy today. I guess it just goes on how you interpret it.

Really it isn't our fault we are all sinners, its Adam and Eve's fault. So when I die and if I get judged I will say, "God, it was all Adam and Eve's fault!" ;) :p

I was brought up as a Christian, but now I would be more accurately described as an agnostic. I am neutral over whether a 'Prime Creator' actually exists, but in the event He/She/It does, I doubt a Being potent enough to shape galaxies would be nitpicky over the forms though which a lifeform which has been in existence for a minute fraction of the entire history of the universe venerates Him/Her/It.

A couple of my favourite Robert Heinlein quotes, which express my opinion so well I might as well quote them:

"The most preposterous notion that H. Sapiens has ever dreamed up is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of all the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of his creatures, can be swayed by their prayers, and becomes petulant if He does not receive this flattery. Yet this absurd fantasy, without a shred of evidence to bolster it, pays all the expenses of the oldest, largest, and least productive industry in all history."

"Men rarely (if ever) manage to dream up a god superior to themselves. Most gods have the manners and morals of a spoiled child."

Yes I beleive in God and know Jesus.

As for church well i guess it depends which one you go to (i dont mean denomination by this either every single church is different in one way).
To me church are like my family. They have been there for me no matter what even when they barely knew me. They pray with me and gave me food when i had none and clothes. Theyve let me stay at their houses and have been on the other end of the phone at all times of the night.
Also i didnt know about worship music before i went to church then someone lent me a cd and it really helped me to draw close to God when i was spending time on my own with him.
Its also helped me to learn that even leaders do things wrong. Our leaders have appologised to us before and said oh i shouldnt have said that the other week it was from me not God. Plus i know ive always got someone who i can be accountable to. It is important to have encouragement from other beleivers and fellowship with people of all ages and backgrounds.
