Help indeed. I know from the mens match they said the sun and shade was tough, and Petra's playing a fellow country women (she always hates playing them), but Hrdecka can't return, so Petra doesn't have to serve perfectly.

She has 3 double faults already, and has had her serve broken 2x, by her own doing, after racing to a quick 2-0 lead. SMH.

But what about the rest of Lucie H's game?

But if you followed the match, this has nothing to do with that.

Petra raced out to a 2-0 lead, then DF' and second served her way into poor service games. Lucie can't return to save her life.

Petra's also not taken advantage of numerous break points and 2nd serves. As Petronius, likes to say, Petra hates playing against Fellow Czechs, mind you Fed Cup team mates. Petra she is in her returning standards, Petra for 2012 wins a little less than/around 35% of points on player's first serves. This match she's at 31% --

I don't think it means all that much if Petra loses here. She still has a way to go before she develops the consistency to really stay at the top. It was like this last year as well, I think people forget that there was a huge stretch of time between Wimbledon and the YEC, where she really was capable of losing to many people on a bad day. It's not like she played Wimbledon and then the YEC and then dominated after that. In fact her wins last year were pretty spread out and she had some patchy moments in between.

With that said, Kvitty needs to find a way to get out of these sticky situations. It's not over yet, but- if she wants to be a consistent top player, she really needs to learn how to gut out wins and win ugly.

That could be true David, but how much was Petra putting into it, and how in shape was Petra at the time?

Secondly, Lucie's not a good returner, so if Petra makes the proper adjustments, I can't see why she wouldn't serve well against her.

I know they are team mates, but you think it's that much an advantage?

Plus she has 7 DF's now.

Petra gave Lucie the psychological advantage early, when she could of crushed her hopes. Now she's gotta deal with the repercussions (and the mercy of Lucie H serve) to deal with.

Agree. Plus those really top doubles players can pull of major upsets in singles if they get the slightest scent of blood in the water.

Yes, doubles is a different game, but you don't win as many titles as Lucie has without having some weapons (and an adorable partner).

We've seen plenty of big upsets by good dubz players over top singles players--a player named Dulko leaps to mind.

This is all speculation here but I know both player's games really well and I think that since Petra is not capapble of serving kick, all her serves slice into Lucie's body if she tries to go down the T on the AD-side, which would be great for Lucie since she is such a compact hitter on her forehand. On Lucie's backhand, she extends her arms more and has a better reach making it tough for Petra to drift the ball away from Lucie's hitting zone when aiming for a serve out wide from the AD-side. And then again, the most important points are being played on the AD-side.

EDIT: plus, Kerber said the blue clay makes the ball bounce higher which would be an advantage for Hradecka since she is most comfortable with hitting balls that bounce up to her chest.

Is it possible to write a petition to the WTA about the worst premier tournament ever ?

Djokovic told that he can hardly hit winners on the shitclay and just push the ball or will get injured

''To me that's not tennis. Either I come out with football shoes or I invite Chuck Norris to advise me how to play on this court,'' said Djokovic, who like Rafael Nadal has been critical of the new-look surface. ''Center court is impossible to move on. I hit five balls throughout the whole match. With everything else, I was just trying to keep the ball in the court.''
''When you slide on the red clay you have a feeling you can stop and recover from that step. But here, whatever you do ... you are always slipping,'' said Djokovic, who hit 20 winners to 24 unforced errors. ''Not a single player - not woman not man - I didn't hear anyone say 'I like blue clay.'''

I think that was just marketing from Tiriac. Next year it is probably pink, black or green. The colour is indeed nice, as many fans have said, but that doesn´t mean much in terms of functionability for the players.

Did you see AO 2009/2010 against Serena ? Serena is arguably the best serve in the game and Victoria was standing on the baseline returning most all of them --

Victoria is very good at returning first serves --

Another thing good luck defending that,"most of the stats are padded by facing weak-ass servers", fact because the women's serves are generally weak unless for a very little few, Venus, Petra, Julia, Mona, Serena and Stosur -- 0.06% of the top 100. :oh:
