Alright what the hell lets be different.......List your five most deserving Best Actor or Actress Oscars of all time.....explain it if you want......lets have fun what the heck....

Best Actor:

1. Peter Finch: Network; to me one of the single best lines ever spoken on film was "I'm mad as hell and I am not gonna take it anymore." Damn that was a juicy role for him.....

2. George C. Scott: Patton; not as over the top as above but I don't think anyone could have done a better job as the scary General than Scott.....I think Brando was originally considered.

3. Marlon Brando: On the Waterfront: I still think Street Car Named Desire was his greatest role but this one comes in a close second.....that famous lament is still haunting....."I coulda been a contender...."

4. Ray Milland: The Lost Weekend; to me one of the greatest roles about alcholism.....Milland was so convincing as the decrepit lush that you don't snap out of the fact it's just acting til the ending credits.....

5. Humphrey Bogart: The African Queen; Charlie Allnut is probably not Bogie's greatest character but to me the most demanding role he has taken.....very well deserved.

Best Actress:

1. Meryl Streep: Sophie's Choice; I still cringe everytime the scene of the "choice" is finally made.....Streeps greatest role to date to me just because of that scene.

2. Sally Field: Norma Rae; Kind of a counterpart to Peter Finche's Network character a few years earlier, Field was dazzling as the union crusader.....still gives me chills.

3. Janet Gaynor; Sunrise; she was the first oscar winner and won actually for three movies.....but Sunrise a stunning late silent film is still so amazing to me just because of those great dramatic gestures of when she discovers her husband is unfaithful.

4. Vivian Leigh: Gone with the Wind; she was obviously the best choice for this role and the war scenes and that powerful famous line she pronounces as you see the sunset sillouhette through Tara made her a an obvious winner.

5. Frances McDormand: Fargo; Damn Frances was Marge....to me one of the few great roles where an actress totally was the character.....the fact she did not overdue the role is probably I have seen this movie so mang damn times.....

Oh God! What a thread! *grabs Oscar book*

I'm so excited that everything fell off of my desk!! :D

Okay...Best Actors...I loved Finch myself but I'm going to pick 5 new ones.

1. Robert de Niro, "Raging Bull" (1980) -- And one of the finest films of all time as well. What an incredibly vivid, perfect performance.
2. Alec Guinness, "The Bridge on the River Kwai" (1957) -- Subtle mental breakdown. Alec should have about eight Oscars. "Lavender Hill Mob"!
3. Nicolas Cage, "Leaving Las Vegas" (1995) -- You'd never know it from "Con Air" and "The Rock," but Cage can act.
4. Daniel Day-Lewis, "My Left Foot" (1989) -- in 1989, this was a big surprise. Playing handicapped characters is usually a free pass to get away with overacting (Dustin Hoffman, I'm looking at you) but somehow Day-Lewis underplayed it.
5. Gary Cooper, "High Noon" (1952) -- one of the most underrated American actors of all time giving a weary, heartbreaking perf.

Best Actress...whoof, a loooot of great stuff in here.

1. Jodie Foster, "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991) -- Flooring.
2. Katharine Hepburn, "The Lion in Winter" (1968) -- The peak of an unbelievable career. Gets off some really nice one-liners as well.
3. Holly Hunter, "The Piano" (1993) -- *crying uncontrollably*
4. Vivien Leigh, "A Streetcar Named Desire" (1951) -- The chips come steadily off, until, before we know it, we're looking at a completely broken woman.
5. Diane Keaton, "Annie Hall" (1977) -- The most endearing comic heroine in American film.

Favourite Best Actor : Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest

Favourite Best Actress : Diane Keaton in Annie Hall

Just reading some of the people who never got one when they deserved one, what about people who got one when they didn't deserve one? I think Nicolas Cage got an Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas? He was so over the top in that movie, and Marisa Tomei should have won this year instead of Jennifer Connolly.
