Batman. We were too young to understand it was a parody. My bro and I had Batman and Robin costumes.

Sesame Street debuted. That's right.

Hot Wheels. I still have some of mine. They're actually worth something, though not as much as if I'd left them in the packaging.

Childhood nostalgia is a big industry in Portugal now. The #25-40 age group can't get enough of it. Older people are likely to have experienced some hardship during their own childhoods as Portugal only really became a consumer society in the mid 1980s; younger people don't share (pop) cultural references the way people who grew up back when there were only a couple of TV channels did.

The only thing I remember about the Generation Game was the conveyer belt thing. :p I used to think Casualty was really cool back then (although some of it did scare me but I still insisted on watching it despite my mum's wishes!) too.

I also loved You've Been Framed back then (wonder what Lisa Riley's up to these days? :oh:) and I also vaguely remember that Don't Try This At Home programme by Davina McCall.

I used to be more into Pokemon.

unfortunately where we lived at the time in the middle of no where, we couldn't get sattelite reception for Pay TV, so we had like 4 channels to choose from, and TV2 only had Pokemon, followed by Dragon Ball Z...then Full House, Neighbours, Simpsons haha.

Hence why I got into it, as there was nothing else on for a kid my age to watch.

It came to Serbia later, I think that Pokemon was poplar in Serbia when I was in High School. When I was 8, the most popular show was Power Rangers. When I was 10, the most popular show was some latino telenovela.

Yes, it was one of the most popular teenage shows ever. Few years ago, I tried to find it on Youtube and I found the whole episodes with Serbian subtitles, so I thought that it was one of those unknown shows who were more popular in Serbian than anywhere else. I rewatched few seasons on Youtube.

Whom did you meet?

Geoffry
May 1st, 2012, 02:27 AM
My childhood mostly consisted of a programme called Samson & Gert, in which a thirtysomething year old guy (Gert) lived with his dog who could talk (Samson). Gert was unemployed and single, but had some sort of relationship with a girl who we never saw on screen and would always call to cancel on him for a rich French guy. Gert's other friends were a gay hairdresser, a grocery shop owner and the mayor of the town they all lived in. Both the hairdresser and shop owner were well into their forties and still lived with their moms. An episode mostly consisted of one of them doing something wrong and trying to hide it from the others, or them having a pie eating contest. You know, what grown men usually do.

Typing this all down, I'm not sure why I thought this to be such a great show. :p

These are Samson and Gert. I guess globalisation hadn't reached Belgium yet at that time. :o
