Warning: This topic has the sole purpose for me to vent.... no idea why I'm doing it here but it has to get out!!

Well, I was on my way to Stuttgart today when some fucking assholes decided to mug me!! It happened at the train station in an underpass as I was going to catch my train to Stuttgart, three rather large guys of what looked to be Arab decent walked up to me, kicked me over and took the bag that contained my laptop, camera gear and the Stuttgart tickets alongside some cash and other stuff.

Just great, last year I can't attend the tournament because of a last minute work commitment and this time I'm actually on my way there and still not getting there!! I realize that this is very much a first world problem but I'm so pissed and disappointed right now...hard to put into words.

The police was ultimately unhelpful as well, I sure hope that I never get into more serious trouble because if you need to rely on these dipshits you're absolutely screwed. The most consolidating the officer had to tell me was "You're lucky, some time we had a guy who got all puked over as distraction before being robbed." Awesome dude, that totally makes my day now that I can take comfort in the fact that at least they didn't puke on me before taking my stuff...

Instead of enjoying tennis now I get to watch on TV being miserable and having to bend over backwards to get my IDs and cards and whatnot back.... I just hate my life

I'd be totally pissed and angry, too. It's ok to vent. You had your heart set on something and someone took it away from you. I'm glad you're ok. Try to do something fun for yourself to celebrate you - even if it's not Stuttgart.

So sorry to hear that  But as others have said, you were lucky that it wasn't worse. At least you seem ok, which is more important than money, right?

I was mugged and beaten up in Orlando a few years ago. I was travelling alone and was walking by myself across a bridge around 10pm, before 2 thugs came behind me and beat me up. Without thinking I chased them and even punched one of them and managed to get my wallet back, but I had to go to hospital in the ambulance.

Sorry to hear that, its horrible that it happened. People like that are thugs and should never have been born, honestly. To steal from someone else is disgusting.

Atleast your health is fine and you weren't hurt. I am sure you can gain those items back in time, I know it won't be easy but yeah try to avoid places like that, next time take a plane. Even if its a short plane ride. ;)

Thanks for the nice comments. :)

It wasn't in a particular bad area, it's quite a big station just this part is rather remote. It was at 11 in the morning so I didn't really think anything would happen, if it would have been late at night I would have been more cautious. I was listening to an audiobook on my iPhone and didn't really notice that there were no other people around, I thought there were more people behind me.

Yeah, the items as such are insured, it's just a big hassle to get everything back in order. The cash is gone of course and so are the tickets which is what pisses me off the most.

Oh well, I guess I'll go to Luxembourg in October then... it's the nearest tournament for me from here on out if I don't want to wait for another year...

what?

What? I am not sure what part of Germany he lives in, but if its far enough that even a 30 minute plane ride is required, why not?

A lot of people take planes between New York and Washington DC or New York and Boston and its literally like 40 minutes.

Obviously if he lives within a 1 hour ride on a train, then it makes no sense but I wasn't sure what part of Germany he lived in in regards to Stuttgart.

I took a plane ride from Detroit to Toronto once and it was 45 minutes, 20 of which you were actually in the air.

Yes, flying would have been an option but a rather pricey one. Plus, I would have taken a train to the airport to get to the flight so I don't really see the benefit here.

The thing is, I use to travel quite a lot via train, plane etc... I never had anything remotely happen to me that I would consider dangerous, that's why I was completely non-suspecting today and in hindsight there isn't too much I could have done better to avoid it, that's the frustrating part.

Well just make sure you pay attention to your surroundings at all times. When you are alone, take one earphone out just to make sure you are able to hear things around you. :)

I'm sorry, that really sucks :(

I walk around all the time at night and I hear about crime alerts through our university of people getting mugged but I just assume it will never happen to me. This is kind of worrying actually. Did they hit you or anything? Hopefully you can go to Luxembourg in October :)

This sounds like a scene from some Hollywood comedy with the stupid policemen :hysteric:

I'm really sorry, that must truly suck. I don't know what I'd do if I lost my laptop with all my data, camera + some cash... Hell, I'd be broke, that's for sure...

It's good that your items are insured (I thought ordinary people don't do that?)... Any chance of finding these guys?

For what it is worth, thank God it was not worse.

Had it had happened in the US, when thieves are readily eager to use violence(they are more likely to have access to guns), you could have been in much worse shape.

I know this does not bring back the personal stuff you lost, but putting things in perspective, you were not physically harmed.. that is something to cherish

Oh Jimmie

As the others have said.... at least YOU are OK and the other things can be replaced.... and there's always next year for Stuttgart.

It must be a horrible feeling... I'm sure.

I know it's easy to say, but please don't try and let it bring you down .... you can always come to Eastbourne with me :)

Sorry to hear that mate, being burgled, mugged really sets back someones confidence and you feel a sense of invasion. it can be quite daunting.

The other side of the rainbow suggests a greener pasture, as others have said, take solace in the fact that the situation could of been far worse. items can be replaced, lives, ...not so much.

If I had tickets to give to you, I'd gladly offer you them (once my faves bombed out ofcourse :haha:).

Hopefully next year things turn out for the better !

Ugh Jimmie, I'm sorry. I've been mugged before in my city and it's just terrible. The cops usually can't do shit and you just have to get over the initial shock of what happened, realize it's only material items and be grateful you weren't seriously injured or killed. But it's just a terrible experience all around.:hug:
