Okay, so I know this makes me sound like I am 12 but has anyone heard and taken interest in it! It's a new Avatar series and it's gonna be pretty epic. Only 2 episodes so far as it just started but i feel like as well as taking us on a new Avatar journey it will answer a lot of pending question since then end of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The first episode already hinted at the looming question of what happened to Zuko's mother.

Anywayz, done ranting for now.

I watched and loved all avatar so I want to watch this aswell :p

Not sure if it is just as fun but I must know what happened to Zukos mother!

I loved Avatar the last Air Bender. :hearts: I am looking forward to The Legend of Korra. I haven't watched the first two episodes yet, I missed them Saturday. :sobbing: I will catch up though and I do hope they answer the lingering questions from the series finale. I really thought they would make a couple of Specials or 2 hour TV movies to explain it all, but obviously they made an entirely new series that will tell a new tale.

I watched the first 2 episodes.

I definitely hope Korra is gonna leave that city, best thing about Avatar was the fact that the moved to a different place all the time.
Also I feel it's alot less lighthearted and more serious
those anti-benders were really really scary :spit:

It ofcourse was only an intro still ...

I'm curious to how they are gonna make different books as Korra is already a earth, fire, and water bending master. There are some good plot lines here though. And I'm sure she will go to other cities. I'm very curious to see what Ba Sing Se looks like now. The will definitely include it. I'd love to see other character's from the previous series other than Katara as well.

If she didnt Blood Bend, then Aang and Sokka might've been dead.

Avatar was kind of dark in the later seasons I felt.

Everything gets darker as war looms. I think book 3 was titled "Fire"?

And who the fuck is the guy who leads the revolution!!??? He can energy bend which is technically bending, hypocrite. Someone greater than him had to have given him that power.

Amon or Avon? He can energy bend?

Im curious as well. Korra can water, earth n fire bend. But she isn't really a master yet. There will probably a time when she losses and looks for a Water-Fire-Earth supah master.

I wanna see her Lightning Bend and Metal Bend :D

I saw that Dante Basco did an episode...so Zuko would be back somehow.
and Dee Bradley Baker :worship:

Can't wait for Zuko's mom.
There must be a statue of Zuko somewhere since he and Aang built the city.
Did Toph marry Sokka? Lin & Tenzin cousin.
How bout Aang other Kid...
soo many questions...

I watched first 2 episodes and was a little dissapointed...Because they're staying in that dreadful city and I want Korra to explore the world and go to same places as Aang.

But I got the feeling that the season got really great(episode 2 was still character introduction)
So i'm definiately gonna catch up with this in 2 weeks when I finally have summer vacation

FUCKING EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i can go on and on. This was a bad ass fucking season. I can not wait for the next books! I nearly lost my shit when Amon took Chef Beifong's bending away!!!! The book played out really well, I would have liked it a bit longer but it's alright. This whole next gen thing is awesome.

For those of you that haven't caught up:

Katara is Tenzin's mom
Chef Beifong is Toph's daugther
Tenzin and Chef Beifong were in love at one point.
Zuko's sun is the General of the United Forces.

I think that's it for now. Katara is the only on we know of whom is still alive.

I just continued again from episode 3, just finished episode 7 and woow it's so amazing.

So many cool stuff happened and damn when they went in that tunnel I was nervous

Every episode I want Korra to go in avatar trance to beat these fuckers

Those enemies are really tough and I'm curious what's gonna happen now!

The only annoying thing is the love stuff in between .

lol yea...

Soo awkward...
Mako is Bolins brother
Bolin inlove with Korra
Korra likes Mako
Mako is Asumi's boyfriend

even tho their teenagers... it kinda did make them like sluts...

Im down for the journey. The first book was enjoyable but only when I think of it independent from its predecessor. I think I felt more emotionally invested with the original series where as with Kora I felt like I was watching an entertaining cartoon, which isnt a bad thing, just not as connected. Hopefully the second book can pull me all the way in...

The civil war thing is getting interesting!

I too am more emotionally taken by the first series, i don't like a lot about korra but maybe it's finally starting to get good.

I really think they failed expressing the political and emotional feel with the non-benders/benders part in book 1. That was taken too lightly for my taste, and i didn't like the 'republic city' idea. We saw too little of the world, and the adventure is what made the first series so nice.

Happy that they've gone back more to the adventure in book2. :)

What do you guys think about the characters compared to the first series? I mean how they are done, characterbuilding throughout the series and how emtionally attached you are to them.

I loved Sokka for example as the comic character, while i can't stand Bolin. :o

Good story telling this week. I always wondered how the whole avater thing came into existence. I've been thinking this (well, not exactly this, but): as a bender, Korra kind of... sucks. Her water bending seems so cheap and failed at times, even when she's in the avatar state . She seems not to have mastered any of them, really, which is suprising, given that she's supposed to be, what, 16? Aang was so much better than her at the age of 13. She's a disappointing avatar, so far, with very few awe-inspiring moments. Katara was a much better water bender than her, and she only had a year or so to master it... I don't know what's wrong. Maybe the creators are trying to give this impression... maybe they're saving something for later, but her abilities so far have been underwhelming.

I kind of agree the bending animations have been toned down for some reason. They were in such a higher variety and scale during the last airbender. It's kind of disappointing they didn't do more with this. Besides that i hated the whole 'giant' fight at the end, what was that... so disappointing.

the difference is that in ATLA, all of the characters played a major role the entire series. the creators had 3 seasons to develop all of their characters to such detailt hat it's hard not to appreciate the role of every character. it was deep.

lok is pretty rushed with no main villain for the series. even then, the main characters aren't as intriguing. they're a lot less human to me in quite a few ways.

I just learned that Serena voiced a character on Legend of Korra and Avatar  So random

I see.
So that I completely understand you...

The male and female voice "types" are listed and defined by two separate and distinct categories...

Male
Countertenor
Tenor
Baritone
Bass

Female
Soprano
Mezzo-soprano
Contralto

Off course there are many sub-types as well, but the above serve as the currently recognized base.
It's still not clear which type (Soprano, Mezzo-soprano, or Contralto) you're referring to, but no sweat.

By the way, Serena voiced a character on one of my favorite anime series:
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Chapter 50, "The Day of Black Sun, Part 1: The Invasion"

She only had one freak'n line:

You can find the specifics here:
http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Serena_Williams

Serena's character is a female guard named Ming; who showed compassion to an elderly prisoner from the Fire Nation.http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130120114914/avatar/images/thumb/a/a5/Ming.png/250px-Ming.png
http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Ming

Below is the episode link and Serena makes her one and only entrance/exit at 4:47
http://www.animehere.com/avatar-the-last-airbender-chapter-50.html

It's cool hearing her cheerful voice, and portraying a nice character...and serving some old prisoner dude tea.

There you go....you can hear her part.

If you guys didn't know yet.

http://www.nickandmore.com/2014/07/23/nickelodeon-pulls-five-legend-of-korra-premieres/

Honestly, I can never watch it on time when it's aired so I do resort to watching it online. But if it'll help rethink Nickelodeon's mind and give any help to its ratings, then I will make a conscious effort to watch it this Friday.

I am more worried though on how this might effect Season 4. :fiery:

This is all because of that horrible Book 2. It was too rushed and the fact that it followed the final episodes of Book 1 which was also rushed made it even worse.

Leif
Jul 25th, 2014, 09:31 AM
Yes I really like the character development also, the conflict between Lin Beifong and her sister was great. The antagonists in this one are also far more interesting to me personally plus I liked the concept of the rebuilding of the Air Nomads, as even before TLOK started I was hoping that something like this would transpire so glad the creators developed a way to do so.

Oh and Tenzin's character is starting to annoy me a bit, but I am sure he is only acting that way because he truly cares about rebuilding.

The season is shaping up to have some epic bending fights I think....

Direwolf
Jul 25th, 2014, 07:12 PM
Im expecting things to be more advance...

Spoilers alert:

I expected more from the fight of the two great earth bending masters than both throwing pieces of staircases at each other. Though toph is an exception... she is greater than them by miles even when shes a kid than these two oldies...

Wanted Tenzin to show jinora why she Isnt a master yet... Dont think u can be just called a master when you just know it...
and not experience more fights etc...

How come the cops on the bridge doesnt know any bending??
High Alert criminals on the loose, escapes from the patrol on the bridge... No siren? they couldnt radio anyone on the other side of the bridge? no benders to run after them?

Theyre making this such a childish show...

Honestly... The old folks in this show like tenzin and co needs to die and let the kids travel around more...
Let them appear in flashbacks of their kids or something....

Korra needs more connection with the spirit world!! Seriously.. this avatar is soo lazy!

This show is trying too hard to be cute tbh!! and it sucks

I just don't know why Nickelodeon fucked over its best show. They moved it to digital/online now when all they had to do with promote it properly. The quality of the show is great and I might be in the minority but I actually prefer it to ATLA lol... The fight scenes are choreographed better and Korra is just a better character when compared to Aang. Only thing I miss is Azula! Anyways season 3 is turning out to be really good!

Season 4 is almost in the can, its a sure bet it will still air next year but most likely it will be via internet. The marketing and the way Nick have handled this show has been abysmal. Zero promotion, terrible time slot, etc. What is even worse is that this has been the best season so far. Reviews are really good from the critics and this show has a huge cult following.

I am just happy with being able to finnish the season and watching next season wherever its aired. Last night's episode was beyond kick a$$.

I just started the season, and Korra just broke the air benders out from the Earth Queen.

Um, am I the only that's so annoyed with her? I don't want to read back a few pages in case of spoilers, but a nation can and does conscript it's citizens to an army, and Korra not recognizing that and breaking them out is just another reminder that she doesn't have the tact, intelligence, or strategic mind to be the avatar. I know she's an animated character, but I can't think of anyone else on television I so patently dislike. She hasn't learned jack shit, and Tenzin supporting just breaking into a sovereign nation's military base was so out of character.

And also does she ever win any fights against any major characters during the season before the finale? Jeez

How is what she did a bad thing? Don't forget she didn't only conscript earth nation citizens but also that other boy who came along with them. They were kidnapping people and forcing them to do her bidding. And as the person who's duty is to maintain balance and what not she kinda had to in order to rebuild the air nation. And lets not forget that Aang himself did some pretty stupid stuff as well. Neither were perfect but for some reason only Korra's flaws seem to get pointed out.

The fight was kinda 'meh'. For the daughter of one of the world's most powerful waterbenders Kya is very disappointing. It can't be because she didn't have a great source of water because Ming Hua had access to the same quantity. Tenzin was the only one who truly shined in this and probably would have beaten Aman if not for the interference of the others. It's ironic. Tenzin is a master airbender who learned from his father but Kya looks like an amateur while her mother is freaking Katara.

I mean Katara stopped Hama's barrage of water with one hand but Kya has to dodge every 3 seconds to not get her ass whooped?

It is really disappointing to see how useless she is. We've been waiting two seasons to see what she could do (and, what's more, there hasn't really been an awe-inspiring water bender yet. Korra's pretty average), and this is the best she's got?

Katara was on the verge of owning AZULA before Zuko betrayed her, in s2, and she was just a child. Kya's one middle-aged woman.

Chill guys, I think Korra is still in battle with herself even though she was able to bend out the poison within her. That weird moment where Kuvira just looks like her tells something. I just can't point out what it is. Probably the antagonist in this book is Kuvira and Korra's self. I like the episode, but I agree with all of you saying Korra is just useless as shit right now. I mean, if she could have destroyed Kuvira's ass by getting into the avatar state as early as possible, she could have save Zhaofu and Su

Kuvira's villainhood is feeling a bit forced. Nothing about her development seems organic.
And that mecha suit thing is quite a leap in technology...

I have yet to see a single color tv in the entire series.

Stunning finale to end a stunning series. It's been an amazing ride.

Anyway. Fuck this series.

Korrasami :hearts: i can't believe they went there.

I'm so, so sad it's over. And i'm not exactly hopeful for a new series with all the behind the scenes problems.

The ending was so anti-climatic. Not the epic confrontation with Kuvira i was expecting.

^Sometimes, two friends holding hands is just two friends holding hands.

It was OK. Pretty good. 7/10. I agree with Sarindipity. I was looking for an epic fight, but they've done that for the last two seasons, I suppose. It had a good build-up, and was satisfying at least.

That's what I thought. I hate people stanning that both of them are bisexual. I want them just to be that way, no more no less :sobbing:

The creator of the show (or at least 1/2 of them) shared a link to an article discussing the ending that specifically addressed that Korra and Asami were meant to be a couple. I think that was more or less his official confirmation of what his intentions were with the ending.

I love that they went there, they have been hinting it all season. Korra only wrote Asami for a reason!!! This show had guts, its groundbreaking, beautiful, magical, well written and I love how it let its female characters shine all the way to the end!!! I will miss this show like crazy! For me this series has been one of the best of all time, a classic! Season 3 remains one of the best conceived seasons I have ever watched.

All the people who didn't see Korrasami coming are blind. I've seen so many people saying it "came out of nowhere." They've been hinting at it since AT LEAST season 3, and the post-finale interviews have confirmed they've been setting it up since then too.

All in all, a good season. Not as good as 3, but still nice.

I began watching the series when it came out and I liked the first 2 episodes, but for some reason I didn't continue watching it  I am now in episode 2 of season 2, I'll be done with it in a few days.

Korrasami is canon.

You can celebrate it, embrace it, accept it, get over it, or whatever you feel the need to do, but there is no denying it. That is the official story. We received some wonderful press in the wake of the series finale at the end of last week, and just about every piece I read got it right: Korra and Asami fell in love. Were they friends? Yes, and they still are, but they also grew to have romantic feelings for each other.

Was Korrasami “endgame,” meaning, did we plan it from the start of the series? No, but nothing other than Korra’s spiritual arc was. Asami was a duplicitous spy when Mike and I first conceived her character. Then we liked her too much so we reworked the story to keep her in the dark regarding her father’s villainous activities. Varrick and Zhu Li weren’t originally planned to end up as a couple either, but that’s where we took the story/where the story took us. That’s how writing works the vast majority of the time. You give these characters life and then they tell you what they want to do.

I have bragging rights as the first Korrasami shipper (I win!). As we wrote Book 1, before the audience had ever laid eyes on Korra and Asami, it was an idea I would kick around the writers’ room. At first we didn’t give it much weight, not because we think same-sex relationships are a joke, but because we never assumed it was something we would ever get away with depicting on an animated show for a kids network in this day and age, or at least in 2010.

Makorra was only “endgame” as far as the end of Book 1. Once we got into Book 2 we knew we were going to have them break up, and we never planned on getting them back together. Sorry, friends. I like Mako too, and I am sure he will be just fine in the romance department. He grew up and learned about himself through his relationships with Asami and Korra, and he’s a better person for it, and he’ll be a better partner for whomever he ends up with.

Once Mako and Korra were through, we focused on developing Korra and Asami’s relationship. Originally, it was primarily intended to be a strong friendship. Frankly, we wanted to set most of the romance business aside for the last two seasons. Personally, at that point I didn’t want Korra to have to end up with someone at the end of series. We obviously did it in Avatar, but even that felt a bit forced to me. I’m usually rolling my eyes when that happens in virtually every action film, “Here we go again…” It was probably around that time that I came across this quote from Hayao Miyazaki:

“I’ve become skeptical of the unwritten rule that just because a boy and girl appear in the same feature, a romance must ensue. Rather, I want to portray a slightly different relationship, one where the two mutually inspire each other to live - if I’m able to, then perhaps I’ll be closer to portraying a true expression of love.”

I agree with him wholeheartedly, especially since the majority of the examples in media portray a female character that is little more than a trophy to be won by the male lead for his derring-do. So Mako and Korra break the typical pattern and end up respecting, admiring, and inspiring each other. That is a resolution I am proud of.

However, I think there needs to be a counterpart to Miyazaki’s sentiment: Just because two characters of the same sex appear in the same story, it should not preclude the possibility of a romance between them. No, not everyone is queer, but the other side of that coin is that not everyone is straight. The more Korra and Asami’s relationship progressed, the more the idea of a romance between them organically blossomed for us. However, we still operated under this notion, another “unwritten rule,” that we would not be allowed to depict that in our show. So we alluded to it throughout the second half of the series, working in the idea that their trajectory could be heading towards a romance.

But as we got close to finishing the finale, the thought struck me: How do I know we can’t openly depict that? No one ever explicitly said so. It was just another assumption based on a paradigm that marginalizes non-heterosexual people. If we want to see that paradigm evolve, we need to take a stand against it. And I didn’t want to look back in 20 years and think, “Man, we could have fought harder for that.” Mike and I talked it over and decided it was important to be unambiguous about the intended relationship.

We approached the network and while they were supportive there was a limit to how far we could go with it, as just about every article I read accurately deduced. It was originally written in the script over a year ago that Korra and Asami held hands as they walked into the spirit portal. We went back and forth on it in the storyboards, but later in the retake process I staged a revision where they turned towards each other, clasping both hands in a reverential manner, in a direct reference to Varrick and Zhu Li’s nuptial pose from a few minutes prior. We asked Jeremy Zuckerman to make the music tender and romantic, and he fulfilled the assignment with a sublime score. I think the entire last two-minute sequence with Korra and Asami turned out beautiful, and again, it is a resolution of which I am very proud. I love how their relationship arc took its time, through kindness and caring. If it seems out of the blue to you, I think a second viewing of the last two seasons would show that perhaps you were looking at it only through a hetero lens.

Was it a slam-dunk victory for queer representation? I think it falls short of that, but hopefully it is a somewhat significant inching forward. It has been encouraging how well the media and the bulk of the fans have embraced it. Sadly and unsurprisingly, there are also plenty of people who have lashed out with homophobic vitriol and nonsense. It has been my experience that by and large this kind of mindset is a result of a lack of exposure to people whose lives and struggles are different from one’s own, and due to a deficiency in empathy––the latter being a key theme in Book 4. (Despite what you might have heard, bisexual people are real!) I have held plenty of stupid notions throughout my life that were planted there in any number of ways, or even grown out of my own ignorance and flawed personality. Yet through getting to know people from all walks of life, listening to the stories of their experiences, and employing some empathy to try to imagine what it might be like to walk in their shoes, I have been able to shed many hurtful mindsets. I still have a long way to go, and I still have a lot to learn. It is a humbling process and hard work, but nothing on the scale of what anyone who has been marginalized has experienced. It is a worthwhile, lifelong endeavor to try to understand where people are coming from.

There is the inevitable reaction, “Mike and Bryan just caved in to the fans.” Well, which fans? There were plenty of Makorra shippers out there, so if we had gone back on our decision and gotten those characters back together, would that have meant we caved in to those fans instead? Either direction we went, there would inevitably be a faction that was elated and another that was devastated. Trust me, I remember Kataang vs. Zutara. But one of those directions is going to be the one that feels right to us, and Mike and I have always made both Avatar and Korra for us, first and foremost. We are lucky that so many other people around the world connect with these series as well. Tahno playing trombone––now that was us caving in to the fans!

But this particular decision wasn’t only done for us. We did it for all our queer friends, family, and colleagues. It is long overdue that our media (including children’s media) stops treating non-heterosexual people as nonexistent, or as something merely to be mocked. I’m only sorry it took us so long to have this kind of representation in one of our stories.

I’ll wrap this up with some incredible words that Mike and I received in a message from a former Korra crew member. He is a deeply religious person who devotes much of his time and energy not only to his faith, but also to helping young people. He and I may have starkly different belief systems, but it is heartwarming and encouraging that on this issue we are aligned in a positive, progressive direction:

“I’ve read enough reviews to get a sense of how it affected people. One very well-written article in Vanity Fair called it subversive (in a good way, of course)… I would say a better word might be “healing.” I think your finale was healing for a lot of people who feel outside or on the fringes, or that their love and their journey is somehow less real or valuable than someone else’s… That it’s somehow less valid. I know quite a few people in that position, who have a lifetime of that on their shoulders, and in one episode of television you both relieved and validated them. That’s healing in my book.”

Love,

Bryan

Wow. I can honestly say I didn't get any of the hints. I thought they were just developing into really good friends. Great step forward, though. I'm liking the creators so much more now than just for their epic stories.
